My son dropped out in year 12 due to a number of issues. The course was nothing like expected, lack of information at the outset from the college and the interview should have been much longer than 5 minutes to assess his suitability for the course. A good teacher would spot when a pupil is struggling but instead chose to voice their dismay without enquiring further. Zero communication with parents from teachers or school. My son sought the advice from the careers officer at the college and he as good as told him to sign himself off the course and pursue other avenues. Disappointing that the careers officer was not knowledgeable enough to realise the consequences for my son who would now be classed at NEET (youth not in employment, education or training). York College in hindsight was a bad choice and I have since heard a number pupils who have also dropped out. I have been able to compare other viewpoints from friends and acquaintances’ and other colleges have fared better in course support, communication and retention. He now has to wait until September to start another course.
It was decent but it was definetly difficult when it came to food as people who struggle with food problems like IBS, celiac etc, struggled with finding something great to eat and if there was something, it wasn’t good and it didn’t look appetising. As well, only certain students got praised so if you weren’t known by teachers, you didn’t get that praise. Also, the cafe has barely any seating which causes students to argue about over chairs and tables which is ridiculous. Most teachers are very lovely and great to have as a teacher, I enjoyed having who I had but some teachers definetly had rude intentions towards some students and focused their hatred onto them
