You must really hate your child if you send them here.
The safeguardings help is disgusting, i came to them and they blamed MOST of my problems on hormones until i mentioned SH which they told me to resolve with somebody else, which is fine if you're not trained to deal with it, but they are? Now, bullying is a major part as staff dont care about how you're treated, AT ALL. they might make a big deal about ohhh how much they care but they really dont. Lessons are fine but most of the time its just teachers yelling because they fail to control their class without anger. A thing id like to add about staff, while my sister was learning here, there was a PE teacher (now fired) who sexually assulted and stalked a sixth former, yet stayed employed for quite a while. Speaking about SA theres been PLENTY of claims about it with staff AND students, yet half of it is swept away, i believe some of them too. We havent had a headteacher for a while because our old one got sacked (grabbed a student by the collar and dragged him into his office, pretty much choking him) i think if abuse was legal every staff member would be doing it. overall this is a pretty horrible learning environment and it makes my life a little more worse.
This school is absolute shit they make us wear stupid uniform and no braclets or necklaces. All the teacher are rude and disrespectful and the canteen food is ok but I think it’s too overpriced and they need to reduce the prices and do better quality food. They do nothing about bullying and care more about uniform than our mental health. They force us to do line up every morning and if ur attendance is on 99% they will tell u too improve it. SO DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL UNLESS U WANNA SUFFER FROM SEVERE MENTAL HEALTH
Absolutely horrendous. Fucking shocking make kids line up like there in some kinda army camp treat them like they’re apart of an army camp and I think they forget that at the end of the day they are just kids. Not recommended
I went to school at William Brookes from 2016-2018. From working in a school and safeguarding now, William Brookes is highlighted to me as a terrible school with a severe lack of support for students and no care to look up attendance until it was too late.
Teachers didn’t seem to care about our grades, they never seemed to care about our wellbeing and they gave no support for the idea of post school life. My attendance was below 30% for the entire school year of 2016-2017 and it wasn’t questioned until July at the end of the school year. This then carried on into the 2017-2018 year when they seemed to just give up. They could clearly see I was struggling with my studies and never gave concern to ask what is wrong or offer additional support.
In terms of Safeguarding, to avoid signing in late through reception, I would walk around to the bottom of the astroturf which is next to a public road and simply climb over the fence and walk into school. As I live by William Brookes and often walk past this spot on my way into town, I still see that anyone could easily do that and enter the school grounds. I’m not saying that schools should have high prison like fences, I’m just suggesting some sort of security would be beneficial as I had never seen any sort of security guard on campus, ever.
The only plus side is, the teachers I had were good people, friendly and easy to engage with. I am partly to blame for my poor time there, however a 16-18 year old with mental health issues is supposed to have a lot more support and caught in the net much, much earlier…
The school may have significantly changed or improved over the last 5 years however from my experience, I’d be careful when looking into the school as you could do better elsewhere.
I know not everyone can be fortunate enough to afford private education, however I cannot stress enough that it is worth it.
Wow. I don't even know how to sum up this school. I'm not even the type of student that hates school, i get on with it and just keep my head down. But this school has many things wrong with it, and doesn't surprise me how we were put under special protection a few years ago. Certain teachers are very sexist twoards BOTH genders, there are for some reason desks outside the toilets WATCHING children use the facilities... It's incredibly uncomfortable. One teacher who I've noticed has already been Mentioned in a review literally threw a book at a student and has been known to have said racist slurs before was NOT FIRED at all and was completely let off... He left a year later. One teacher has quoted about a girls behind, has swore in classes, and has been reported yet nothing happened. One teacher even got his feet out in class and starting applying cream to his feet, he once showed up 18 minutes late to a lesson, but if students do that we get detentions. Him however? Nothing happened. He wrote an incredibly rude email to my mom and refused to meet her. One teacher literally threw a student against a wall, and the severity of it let students believe he was sacked.... But then returned two weeks later. Particular teachers widely target certain students and are just rude and ignorant. The bullying issue is just disgraceful, with many students being bullied yet nothing happens, it's a racist, sexist, full of bullying environment, and just not a good school. The school has a partnership with a bus company, which charges students £16 a week for a 40 seater bus when about 50-55 people ride a day, so never end up getting seats and is incredibly dangerous. It's even appeared in the local papers before about how disgraceful it is, but nothing is done. Uniform is disgraceful, with girls being particularly targetted with skirts and earrings, and boys not being permitted to have hair anything shorter than grade 3. I could go on but won't bother. Please do not send your children here as it is a disgraceful school. Shame on you William Brookes!
Overall a very poor school, really bad behaviour and a really horrific approach to bullying and certain teachers target certain students, with desks set up outside toilets and teachers watching children using facilities is very uncomfortable, and one teacher even quoting that a student had a "saggy a$$" and swearing within classes. forcing sports upon children who are less involved in it, no musical or wider opportunities, and just generally a very poor learning environment. I could go on but will not, and just say do not send you children here if you can avoid it.
do not recommend
they care more about teachers lunchtimes than literal racism and homophobia. Unless you want your children to have damaged mental health do not send them here it’s really unseasoned and the school food is shite the garlic bread tastes like cardboard. Additionally , there is an arrogant tory french teacher who thinks he’s better than everyone else yet has still not been fired despite throwing a book at a student in anger for contributing to the vandalism of the “dick wall” only good thing about this school is the resident cat who is a frequent visitor but slightly obese
Everyone is horrible, staff are disrespectful and has no respect towards anyone. So happy that I left, I feel so much happier and positivity around me.
If you are looking for a happy school experience here, I seriously DO NOT recommend this school. Everyday you see students being are bullied and harassed by their peers and the teachers do NOTHING. This school has ruined my mental health and self-esteem. Unless you want your child to suffer, don't think about sending your child here.
Y'know what. I hate it there. It's poor. the amount of times I've been to get help for bulling and they don't do anything is to much. The school is also extremely sexist. Plus, why is the uniform so strict? Why would I keep my self smart in such an awful school.
This school is appalling and I don’t recommend it, students are treated unfairly and bullying and
Hate comments are hardly dealt with, the food is
Over priced and the staff are very rude and punishments are stupid and so are the rules
So therefore I don’t recommend this school because you would be better of sending your children to prison.
LGJ
I am a student at this school and the school is
appalling I was bullied for years and they did nothing to help me the staff are unorganised and the rules are stupid and I got told off for sticking up for my self and I have had my phone stolen
And the thief was not found and we are not aloud to express our feelings and asking for help is useless you would be better off sending your children to prison.
If i could put 0 star i would, but the rules are ridiculous and the punishments are stupid, i got my break removed and a detention for asking to refill my water? Thats down right horrendous and ive had nothing happen to help prevent that even after talking to teachers about it, if you want your kid here you may aswell send them to prison, they would get treated better there, and thats just one expirence that ive listed, i have at least 45+ more
The social distancing doesn’t work, sometimes you get red dots for doing nothing. Homophobic comments/bullying is barely dealt with. Some teachers are late and just not polite
I’m a student and i don’t like it. The skirt rule is ridiculous you’re really sexualising us females. We don’t distract boys you just say that. The punishments are stupid and never true to what they say. I cried over someone having a go at me for uniform and behaviour
