Things haven’t changed by the sounds of it
I went to west derby from 2011-2016. School was alright, teaching quality was awful though and from what I’ve read and found the teachers who taught me still teach here to this day. I’m now a fully qualified secondary school teacher and now being able to look back with this perspective in mind I fully realised how dreadful this school was. Children in the lower sets were routinely mocked and made to look stupid by staff and other pupils, teachers routinely gossiped about students with other staff. Bullying was horrendous as well and was often encouraged by staff and seen as funny when reported by students to staff. The female staff especially the younger female staff would often times make very inappropriate comments towards male students even flirting right out in the open for all to see. The thing is as well these members of staff are still present at the school and some of them are in even more positions of power.
So I doubt things would have changed since my time there and if anything, it’s probably gotten worse.

Toxic School Environment.
I've recently graduated from this school and I would not recommend it. I endured years of abuse at this school. I was a student at West Derby School for 7 years and in that time I was constantly abused by staff. I was regularly bullied by other students but every incident I reported was never followed up on even when I was physically assaulted. I was also a regular target of abuse by staff, who were exceptionally aggressive, shouting in my face, and using personal insults, and physically assaulting me on occasion. The conduct of the staff was extremely unprofessional. At times, when other students were absent from class, teachers would mock them and encourage students to mock them. I've never known a more toxic environment. Serious change is needed.

My child had suffered years of abuse during his time in this school, constantly targeted by teachers one in particular miss Wilkinson, my son came home crying 4/5 days a week from how horrible she treated him. She targeted his class to, pointing a mathematics protractor in one child’s face for not having the correct uniform on, although they should have worn the correct uniform it will never be acceptable and has never been acceptable for a TEACHER to POINT a sharp protractor in a child’s face.
Terrible school
Horrible school, do not put your son in here as the mother to 3 sons who went here it has gone right downhill the headteacher runs that school like she is a prison governor and your sons are her prisoners she's a very nasty teacher and has no compassion if your son has a injury or had surgery and need time to recover she doesn't care. Bullying is 100% never taken care of even allowing teachers to bully children to the point of nearly having one of my sons tell me they don't want to live anymore because of Mr Thomas and Mrs Graham bullying him. One of my sons was bullied all the way through and they protect the bully's. They also constanly beg you for money for not just your son but for others kids too. Please just let your son go to any other school but this one
Definitely ask older students
To start off, the education is amazing, the teachers are engaging and helpful (if you get the right ones), but the problems start with the students, so many problems like bullying, ableism, homophobia, and physical harassment. You can tell a teacher, of course, but you're problems wouldn't end there. You'll still get bullied and harrassed. The school also has a poor justice system, letting a teacher, and student, get away with pedophilia that was proven, making sure to keep the police out of it, defending the student and letting him into the school without any issues.
In the end though. For the few years I've been there and the teachers I've had, it is good. The teachers are all very friendly while some might not be the best at teaching.
