Toxic working atmosphere

Nice school but toxic teachers and demanding parents with over-indulged children

School

This school cares more about skirt length, uniform, make up, earring, grades, jewellery, phones etc but not about children's mental health like I understand if the child's behaviour is really bad but putting them in detention/isolation and not telling them why it's wrong isn't gonna fix their behaviour here's my honest opinion on my teachers
English - treats me and a few others like a little child embarrassed students
Math teacher 1 - he's sometimes kind doesn't really get mad often
Math teacher 2 - scary always gets mad told me I was too loud accuses people of being on their phones
Science teacher - great teacher think her patience wearing with us
Re teacher - not many like her shouts, give c1s for no reason
Gorgraphy teacher - changes her mind every 2 seconds gives c1s for nothing
History teacher - sometimes goes off topic lesson are ok I guess
French teacher - shouts, once hit boy in my form on head with a book
Office - doesn't let your go home unless you've thrown up
There's so many more but I genuinely can't be bothered to go into detail about them all

I know school is bad but this school makes it worse teacher half the time won't let you fill up your water bottle or go toilet, sosm teachers are very rude and give out behaviour points for no reason but apart from that it's alright

Honest opinion on the school

Some of the staff try to make students go to lessons even if they don't want to, some teachers have lied to students, office won't send kids home if they're sick unless they've actually thrown up, learning support is good though

the school is good in anxiety support side of things

I thought at the start of the year everything would be okay but rumours were spread and I didn’t come in for 2 months. The teachers at learning support really helped me and I’m great now but I have adhd and anxiety and if I hear the slightest tap or slap or click I lose it and I cry and I can’t concentrate and they don’t do anything about that. The rules are so strict with year 7s and 8s but when u get to year 9 they don’t really care. Too much homework is set ( I got set 6 pages of maths homework for the next day) and it stresses kids out. Their end of year trips is based on attendance and when kids are sick it takes loads off of their attendance which makes them upset and feel like they have to go to school just to be considered for a trip when they are sick! Once they had to do two trips to the same place and didn’t tell the parents that there was time to rr sign up so I wasn’t considered and I think there were ppl going on the first trip and the second trip. Never mind that but this school is good it’s okay but their rule system is messed up and stressing out innocent kids

I WOULDNT SEND MY WORST ENEMY'S CHILD HERE!!!

I wouldnt send my worst enemy's child here. Unless children and parents fit into their "box" then you will not do well. My child has sever learning challenges (awaiting diagnosis - 2 years in) and the school has been open about not being able to support until there is an EHCP in place because then they can "apply for a blank cheque" from the local authority. Then when we applied for the EHCP the school told the Council it wasnt needed. Their answer is to suspend the child as its easier.

Also the bullying and drug use it out of control. My child was offered drugs, by children three years older, declined and then was subject to a year of physical and mental abuse, including threats on the school site with a knife. The school were given copies of videos and messages but did nothing. We even reported it to the Police, who did nothing as they do not interfere with incidents on school property.

We have tried the School, Ofsted, the Police and the Council and have gotten nowhere. We are just passed from pillar to post.

No child should be subjected to this kind of attitude from grown adults. And no child should ever experience enxiety going to school because of teachers! Those adults who are striking for more money and greater benefits. Who is holding them to account when they dont do their job? In the real world, if you dont do your job you get fired.

The reform needed in the education system is so great and drastic that i dont think it will ever be done.

I now know why people become activists!!
Maybe the old TV advert was true..... those who can do, those who cant' teach!!

dont send your children here.

right so I'm making this because you need to know that you shouldn't send your children to this ''school''. I was quite a quiet kid and never really made any disruptions, i will admit that i made some good friends and memories in my time here but some things are just awful. 1 - almost all the teachers hate their jobs and don't really do anything to help. i had awful mental health here which they didn't help at all but just telling me it was exams and stress. however I was SA'd while I was in this school, in a classroom. the teachers were told about this and never did anything about it so it meant that i was made to sit near him in nearly all my lessons. i am so glad to be out of this school now, don't send your children here unless you want them to be miserable! not to mention the outside, there were seagulls everywhere because of the litter everywhere and you're forced to sit outside, its a detention if you're found inside. also girls, they care more about your jewellery and makeup more than your wellbeing.

my experience at wpa

times were fun and stuff many of the teachers are good and made lessons enticing. however, BE WARY OF THE PASTORAL TEAM. when i was in year 11, i’ll admit i did cause problems with the school a little (nothing abhorrent!) but when my parent wrote an email to them regarding that there is stuff going on with me mentally which were causing my behaviour, they completely dismissed this (quite literally) and didn’t respond to it or even have a chat to see how i’m doing. the team picks and chooses who they are willing to support, and if you don’t ‘make the cut’ of their abstraction of being worthy of their support they will neglect your problems because you may have messed up a couple times, and feels that they don’t care about you. which comes across as discriminative and prejudice. may i add, this is going against their ‘policies’ as they say everyone enrolled is equal and promise to support anyone who needs it.

overall, i would rate the school higher because as i mention the teachers there are amazing and really push you to be the best you can be and the atmosphere isn’t adverse at all. but due to the discriminative nature of the PT, i feel that i cannot give it higher than 2 stars. at the end of the day, pastoral are meant to go out of their way to try to support students as much as they can and i really believe this was not met in my case. a good team is needed in order for children to feel heard and understood, so they can perform the best they can and achieve the best they can, knowing that they do have backup support outside of the house and friend groups.

Great :)

My experience at WPA is really quite amazing !!! I personally love my form tutor, they really take us (the form) under their wing and cares for us the best they can. In addition most of the teachers are very good (i’m especially fond of my English and Spanish teachers!), however some teachers aren’t the best at really ‘teaching’ us i.e. in biology one of the lessons is typing up notes basically word for word off of the digital text book :/

would not recommend at all

If I could rate it 0, I would.
The school can’t handle bullying and just tell you to move, the headmistress is more concerned about the length of girls skirt than the code of conduct there.
The only “safety and security” is an old gate that is almost broken and when I was there I never felt safe walking around the corridors. Hardly any sports/ activities and when there are, they are offered to only very athletic students.
Students have to sit outside for lunch and cannot be indoors, very cramped. The outdoors is littered all the time and because of this seagulls and squirrels were frequent. There were many incidents with seagulls and students too.
I never received any extra help and fell many sets because of it, this meant I missed a lot of education. Half the teachers don’t seem to like the job and only so the bare minimum and others had obvious favourite students.
Girls jewellery and skirts were picked up many times but boys were allowed their shirts untucked and only when teachers would care would they then tell them.
Work was not very challenging either, very low targeting and didn’t allow students to develop.
Also has a horrible pastoral team in which they never help and only suggest you should move.

Horrible pastoral team

Was bullied and pastoral did not help. Was sexually assaulted and made a formal complaint, gave a statement and still, nothing was done about this, the school really should have done something as this led to the assaulter later raping me and now I having to get in contact with police witch the school could have easily prevented.
