It is alright. This school does not care about your mental health and my science teacher doesnt let me drink water in the lesson because apparently it's 'illegal'. They only care aboht grades and the end of year assessment is so stressful. Go to Hillview, much better school.
Its terrible. It could be worse in regards to some other schools, but especially from my experience, its awful.
Im neurodivergent, and whilst some teachers have been helpful and attentive, others have been so nasty and dismissive about my needs. Whilst I was having a panic attack in class I got told to "just calm down and finish your work" . I have had teachers snap their fingers or clap at me to get my attention as if I was some dog. I am autistic, and noise sensitive, that stresses me out so badly. When asked a teacher to tone down the volume, they essentially said "its the way I teach, deal with it."
When I was discussing a triggering subject, and put a warning infront of it to allow people to leave if affected, the teacher said "I will decide if people get to leave."
I have a plan put in place to make accommodations for my learning and social disabilities, and hardly any teachers have even looked at it, let alone follow it.
The school does not offer a range of clubs, the only ones being sporting clubs and choir. If you're like me, and you're in no way athletic, this is an issue.
The bullying in this school is immense. This was highlighted in the recent ofstead report in which our school received a "school requires improvement" . As a target of it, reporting gets you nowhere. Teachers have seen the stuff that people do to me, and have still done nothing.
This year, during pride month, we were not allowed to put pride flags anywhere in the school. Not even a little picture of one on a poster advertising the schools GSA (gender sexuality alliance) and the things they were doing in pride month. This is because our (now ex) head teacher said it was controversial. And despite many teachers and students talking to her about it requesting a change, we were not allowed them.
The learning environment in general is so stressful. A seven in gcse grading, is regarded as not achieving. Some teachers don't even teach a lesson properly. No one adapts for learning disabilities, and there's no SEN classes to help those people catch up. I have broken down many times because of the difficulty of some of the work.
However, aspects of the school are not too bad. The music department at the school is very talented and are generally nice people. And there are some amazing teachers, who have certainly made my experience at this school easier.
I don't want to scare people from coming to weald, as I believe that as it is now going to be under new leadership, things will change back into the school I joined that many years ago, but I wanted to highlight some of the aspects that I believe need to be addressed more.
I was a student here and we had multiple issues in the school. Last year a white student repeatedly called a fellow student racial slurs, and there has been incidents where a former music teacher (Mr stephens) made uncomfortable in appropriate comments about girls uniform. “ I can see your bra through your shirt” or “uncross your legs it’s distracting me “
This is an amazing school the teachers will push you to your limit and get the best work out if you and expand results have always been amazing each year yet the team just keep making it better! The food is really good too.
