I’m currently in the flex course at Wakefield collage and what I noticed when a teacher is being verbally rude to a student. And the student stands up for themselves another TA sticks up for them. Or if they get another teacher involved they always tell there side and never the student. Another thing I’ve noticed is how some of the teachers yell at some students who are on the septum this doesn’t go for all the classes only some. And some of them even forget the students needs. But another thing. Some teachers have students they like and don’t like for example when I was in class my teacher was talking down on a student I was shocked and couldn’t believe what I saw.
And my teachers always start the lesson late and takes them about 15 or 20 minutes for them to turn on the board. (I know it’s not a problem because of electronics now) but some even turn up late not as late but the way when a student calls them out someone will always twist your words. And the communication is awful.
I went to Wakefield College as a mature student to get my GCSE in Maths so that I could train as a teacher. The teacher was dedicated and genuinely gave way beyond his remit. If it’s not too strong a compliment, it changed my life. I went in to be Head of Maths in the school I eventually taught in.
My son also went there, having been kicked out of Pontefract College. He obtained great A level results; went to University and is now finishing his PhD with a book deal.
Would not recommend this college for anyone, the tutors were no help except the odd one now and again. All work was rushed and assignments were given last minute at the end of the year.
Really bad experience of the work experience tutor. All negative feedback not one positive which is not helpful at all. Really disappointed with their attitude and approach, it’s really effected my mental health and put me in a downward spiral. I turned up early every single day but no mention of punctuality. I never made excuses to leave early and nor did I hid away from the work. This needs major improvement!!!!!
I love it here. They’ve done more to help me in the last 7 months than my high school did in 5 years. The support system is absolutely fantastic - they helped get my EHCP sorted (my high school lied and said that they had sorted it), and when I was struggling to cope with level 2, they moved me down onto level 1, which has made things so much easier for me. Even before I joined, they let me go onto the unit every once in a while so that I could get used to it. I can’t wait to go back and see all the animals.
