This school should not be aloud to make half the decisions they have made already.I have had enough with the pathetic school. Most children spend time in eternal exclusion for the most littlest thing's. A new rule that they have just made that girls cannot wear any type of earrings nor boys.
At first we were impressed with the discipline policies. It soon became apparent that sanctions are not issued following the system they told us . There is alot of bias depending on who the child was.
It appeared teachers and staff who had children at the school got preferential treatment . There were outside sports events and students were not picked on ability or given any opportunity to go.
Bullying was rife at the school and on the bus but not dealt with. Detentions not issued fairly or equally ( again this seemed to be biased ) . Students are not supposed to have mobile phones in school. I informed the school that a student was recording students and teachers without permission. The footage was being shared on social media and nothing was done.
Toilets are shut off during class time. Child had a medical need and requested a " toilet pass" which was not always given. Even when students have a toilet pass, staff still refused to let pupils use the toilet.
The content of the English lessons were completely distorted and the reading materials were very violent and unsuitable .
Hardly any time given to eat lunch and not allowed to sit with friends during that timem
I’d like to make an honest review as a towers student during 2023. (I would liked to have rated this slightly above a 2/5)
I will start with the positives of towers before talking about its flaws. The attitudes from the staff are normally great, they enforce the rules well and are clearly passionate about the school. The rules are strict for the better. Towers takes a unique approach towards learning, they use acronyms which are called in the classrooms to remind students to be on their best behaviour, and for homework students are given a booklet containing all of the information they need to be revising which is to be completed an hour daily as homework. Towers offers plenty of opportunities such as after school clubs, school trips and more. Transport is no problem as there are several buses going to and from the school. Students are given report cards and parents evenings which highlights the areas that they could be improving on. Generally towers is better than the other schools in Ashford.
On the other hand, there are quite a few problems that aren’t noticed by students and parents before attending the school. The behaviour of the students at towers is poor. During my time here I’ve seen bullying happen on several occasions, and frequently there are fights between students, I’m not allowed to name any staff here but if you look on social media there are complaints from parents about how these issues have been dealt with. The buses at this school have always been an issue, there are normally fights happening on them aswell as students throwing food and drinks. I frequently see other students smoking on the buses. The school have attempting to tackle this by putting a teacher on the buses on occasion, but its only effective when the teacher is on the bus. To make it more fair, the school introduced a first come first served ticket system to get on the buses, despite this the teachers know about a lot of students that push in every day but ignore it completely. In the mornings there students that lie as to why they are late persistently and the reception team know this but don’t punish them and only punish those who are honest. From my own experience and from my peers some teachers have made fun of us infront of the class for not understanding and have rudely said “well you should have learnt that a while ago” rather than explaining it to us. I feel that the teachers here dont do enough help students to fix their problems and instead only punish them. Recently when the school inspectors have visited the teachers selected students to talk to them and told them to only speak well about towers and to not mention anything bad going here which I feel is quite unfair.
Poor communication and lack of help in regards to child’s mental health. Nothing has been taken seriously. They never answer the phone or emails and if they do it’s weeks too late
This school is outrageous. You arent allowed to use toilets during lessons which is ridiculous. What if someone got their period during a lesson?! What of someone had explosive dirreah?! They disallow rolled skirts and older MALE teachers look up their skirts because they tell them to roll them down which is ridiculous and there are so many creepy staff here. Overall, staff are horrible and the way they speak to students is unfair and disgusting.
Really bad school please reconsider going. Teachers are not understanding.students mentally struggling from it . Not allowed to go to toilet in lesson. Really strict . Overall terrible and bad for mental and physical health. Very judgemental school please don’t go
At first glance, it's a good school. But, I knew a girl who had to move schools because the teachers were being racist towards her. Teachers expect you to understand the lessons and alot of them are rude and shout at us. The school is also quite homophobic which is kind of sad because some of the teachers (and students) are Lgbtq+.The school doesn't handle bullying very well either. The good thing about it is the welfare center, you can get extra help if you need it.
The towers school is an ok community. But there are some floors of the school. I like the learning structure in lessons as it is very well done and planed out. Discipline is also very good at this school as if any student was to misbehave for an example. They are disciplined immediately so there is no cause of disruption to our learning. I give the lessons a 4/5. I feel there are many negatives of the school which is a shame as I think if they changed some things it would be much better. Number 1: lunch time. Lunch time isn’t as great as you think it is. The school make us sit in a seating plan at lunch and we can not interact with our friends if we wish to. We have to stay at one table only and sometimes it can feel very awkward and forced to talk to people you would never talk to. You do get free time to go with your friends but it is hard to meet up as you are forced to leave the building when exiting so you can not wait for your friends. It also has damaged friendships and including mine a little bit and it makes you feel worthless. Number 2: detentions: Detentions are very strict and sometimes even if you do your best you can never escape them. We have 15 minutes detentions and 30 minutes detentions. The 30 minutes detention is associated with isolation which I do agree on and that’s not my problem. The 15 minute detention of the one I agree with but mainly disagree. I disagree with it because when you do work in class or something like that they will give you a 15 minute detention if you didn’t complete something despite working hard. And if you don’t have a pencil case they give you a 15 minute detention for it! I don’t think this is right I think they should give two warnings before setting them a detention and then the school provide with a pencil case which they should pay for as the detention for not having a pencil case is in total silence which I agree with but sitting in silence for 15 minutes isn’t going to sort them out for not having a pencil case! And the same goes for not having the right equipment in class. I think they should also give two extra warnings is they do not have. I understand for homework but I still think it should be the same system. Number 3: some of the teachers: Some teachers do a really good job at there job and they are very encouraging but there are the odd teachers that are very horrible. My french teacher expects us to know complete french and ever phrase there is and if you don’t know it he likes to shame you in front of the whole class which makes me or my friends feel very low about our self and sad. He often shows the students he likes and the students he don’t you can really see it in his body language. During the register he will expect you to know a phrase from your book immediately even if your on the top! He never gives us time to practise something before then which is a shame as it could really show something if he gave us more time. Another problem is that I have encountered once (not in french) was in our library, we had a supervisor there writing down the names who have entered. Most of us now don’t where our badges that show who we are and there was a person in front of me who didn’t have theres and the teacher said nothing and when I went up to say my name the teacher asked where is my badge and I said I don’t have it. He starts shouting out me for not having it then he starts to get another teacher involved and started to say sarcastic things to the teacher next to him. I felt very embarrassed but when I asked my friend does he have his, he said no. The main upside to towers school despite all that is the education and at the end of the day that’s all that matters. I feel the welfare team are getting there but are still not the best but there are councillors at our school if you have anxiety like me to talk to and it really helps! I hope you found this information useful..
