good grades at what cost?

TA has a horrendous bullying problem that isnt handled at all by teachers, but i feel like many secondary schools have this problem. good teachers for the most part and good facilities, but an extremely severe lack in support for struggling students.

Not good

This school is so bad do not send your children here. I was bullied all the way through year 7, 8 and 9 but they did nothing about it. There’s too much homework and they don’t care about the mental health of their students. When you leave this school ur either gonna leave with bad mental health no matter if you succeed or not.

Torquay academy

The actual school as a whole is great. The teachers care and provide with resources to help the students to achieve their maximum potential. However, the school seems to care more about the length of a skirt or a student expressing themselves (nose piercing or painted nails etc) than if they were getting seriously bullied. They claim it is to prepare us for the future to be professional but it is not true. You can go to many businesses or places such as a hospital and see a staff member with a tattoo or piercing or coloured hair. But excluding the problem solving the teachers appear to be very caring. The school facilities are also good. The areas are always clean and hygienic and the environment is perfect for many students. They have a sports academy, dance academy and even an RAF/CCF club.

Job application!!

Don't believe the hype, Man!

I applied for a support role as a cleaner at Torquay Academy back in 2020/2021, having amassed much aptitude from previous training within the same work zone.
A local guy, having total historical knowledge of the campus in its previous guises, I was delighted to have been selected for interview.
The Academy receptionist, a lovely young lady, was most warm and welcoming.
Time ticked by - I had arrived early for my interview - naturally a tad edgy. Time elapsed for rather too long. Finally, a bloke called Kevin Jones appeared, wondering where I was. The receptionist remonstrated with him. She put him right, bless her!
The job interview; a disaster. My eye was not fully 'on the ball', I was no good, but I tried my best. Essentially, there was no rapport between myself, Jones, and the miserable woman who accompanied him. I didn't get the job.
A similar new post has recently arisen at Torquay Academy. In desperate need, I decided to swallow my pride, to apply accordingly. The Academy website didn't enable an appropriate connection, even for general query contact. I gave up, after trying several times. No more, I'm done for good. (My chosen web browser is working fine).
So, good friends and fellow job seekers, I recommend that you seek your new employment in education - no matter what the category - elsewhere. Forget Torquay Academy.
Very best wishes,
Michael

Doesn’t help with mental health or bullying

It started off okay, but as soon as I was getting bullied and mental health got worse they just ignored it, I use to have thrive and the teacher there told me “there’s nothing more I can do to help you so I’m gonna stop our sessions” when I was getting bullied (I reported it every week for months) they never did anything about it, I was always told to ignore it or that they’ve been told to stop, I was being told homophobic and transphobic stuff for months and nothing was being done, not to mention the amount of pressure they put on students, if you don’t know an answer to a question so many of the teachers say “I don’t take I don’t know as an answer, try and work it out”

It isn't too bad

Personally I don't mind the school however the biggest issues I have is the school focuses more on trying to change kids who obviously aren't going to change rather than acknowledging the kids who are actually putting in the effort and are doing good. Also some of the rules are pointless teachers become more lenient when your a bit older but stuff like exact amounts of equipment.

I won't torture my child like this

I'm considering moving schools. Never have I been to such a bad school! There's pressure to do loads of homework in an hour! They give you detention if you don't have a pencil sharpener. Never send your child here, not if you love them.

Do not send your child here

It’s shit. All they care about is grades not your mental health they get money every time you take a test and that’s all they care about. They are far too strict about the wrong things and their detention system is terrible. Kids suffer way too much at this school and they definitely don’t care and ignore bullying please don’t send your child here they don’t care for your child or their education just the money they rake in

Eh. Don’t love.

Can’t say it’s great. As one of the top students of my year, I have to say that my mental health is destroyed and they don’t care. All they care about are grades, exam machines. You as a person don’t matter. It’s the grades you churn out they care about. Their don’t care about bullying, racism, sexism, homophobia, anything like that they couldn’t care less.

not the best

in all honesty, the school makes out that they are amazing but in reality, they don’t care about students mental health and, don’t actually resolve issues at all. they don’t teach us about our futures and careers, it’s just basically remembering loads of facts that aren’t really gonna help us in the future. some of the teachers, don’t even teach students properly and instead put loads of pressure on them.

I wouldn't chance it,

Went in year 7 till end of year 8 ish due to bullying. The bullying became physical and what did the teachers do? Nothing but give them special treatment such as bringing in food that they can heat up, sit in the offices on their phones all break and lessons. The head teacher is a useless piece of shit aswell telling me and me parents to just leave the school if I don’t like it and avoiding the bullying. Not to mention the school is literally concentration camp where you have to stand in lines be squeezed in a hall for pointless assembly’s. Thanks to this school and the bullying my mental health rapidly deceased and led me to move schools twice, skip school, be diagnosed with mental illnesses. I now can’t even face to go to college due to the impression of people and school I’ve had, I’ve left a medical tuition service school which helped me more then this school ,and the second school I went to but however couldn’t cope with because of the mental illnesses, i don't know if this school has changed but when i was at this school it was shite n i wouldnt go but it 100% might of changed by now? and if it has im happy and glad. but should of been sorted sooner.

Good grades at what cost

Incredible results, bad mental health support, lots of pressure. The school gives lots of homework and gives little care for your mental health. Struggles with lots of anxiety attacks while at the school. However, results were great.
