A school that will forever leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I joined in 2020 and the school has gradually gotten worst. New rules with harsh no tolerance punishments kept getting implemented each term meaning the stress of doing the right thing kept getting ampted up. You have to be perfect as this school, and you're under a lot of pressure to do so. You're compared to other students which can make you feel worst about yourself. Most teachers are incompetent, and new teachers don't ever last longer then a few years.
A school of strict discipline can be good for students and their education if implemented properly, however this school fails to do so. Most classrooms are out of control, and barely handled properly. There are only a few decent teachers at this school, however they rarely ever help you with the problems you are facing in lesson.

There is also a facade at this school of trying to show that they care about ever student, and their mental health. This is not the case, mental health issues are poorly handled, despite a big push to talk out about how you feel more.

Canteen food has a few options, but is quite expensive for mediocre food. I get the school needs to make money but there has been an increase of prices nearly every year - it probably isn't the schools fault either but that's is no excuse to server out raw and barely cooked food. I know of multiple cases of food poisoning at this school, and the staff has done nothing about it. Good cookies though.

In conclusion, this school is a mess - it tries to be strict withs its rules but the teachers are either too incompetent or too strict. You get the same punishment for untucking your shirt as you do chucking something across the classroom, that's not fair. The teaching is alright at best, but horrendous at the worst. This school needs major improvement, and that needs to start with replacing the head teacher to one who actually cares about the well-being of their students.

AVOID Thurstable School Tiptree - IT'S A NIGHTMARE!!

This school is like a replica of Nazi Germany. The Headteacher is so far up his own backside, he makes up ridiculous rules for the students like forget a ruler, or a pen - detention...need the toilet during a lesson, even if you will wee yourself - detention...late for class? Doesn't matter what your reason is, even if its justified - detention...and so on. The teachers can get away with whatever they like. It's the same old saying "do as I say, not as I do". Even prisoners go to the toilet when they want. There are constant exams and assessments every few months that never seem to end, purely for their own statistics. They care nothing for parents' views or opinions. They communicate via email to parents dictating this or that. Teachers are forever complaining they need more time off and more pay! To some f**king work then!! You get the most time off in any profession going, and you still moan!? The Headteacher and his minions are rude and dismissive if you dare question anything about YOUR OWN CHILD. They seem to have the attitude that once your child is on school grounds, they BELONG to them and you/the parent, are a piece of scum. The lunch hall/canteen food is pig swill level - chips, cakes, biscuits and baguettes or pizzas with no nutritional value. Just carbs, sugar and fat - but hey!...your child's future is what they're all about isn't it?! Their philosophy is follow rules without question or be punished, however dumb or unfair the rule. They don't want your child to grow up to be a free-thinking individual and with their own opinions. It's our way or the detention, for EVERYTHING!!! They are a bunch of Nazi standard dictators. I HATE THURSTABLE SCHOOL. It is an utter dump, hell-hole, and I cannot wait for my child to leave there - for their sake as well as my own.

I’m gonna watch god of war now

The only good thing that goes on in this school are friends that you meet in the years of being there. I’m in year 10 and I’ve been there since year 7 and there’s been so many changes to the uniform that are not necessary. The last uniform was great and comfortable and the most laid back thing ever but now theres a incredibly uncomfortable clip on tie and a uncomfortable shirt that was see through when it got wet which means people could see boys chest areas and girls bras which is an invasion of privacy and uncomfortable. The people that go there are all rude inbreds that thing they’re funny but they’re really not. The teachers don’t even really try to help you and give you “warnings” if you do something slightly bad like talking with your friends or not doing a tiny bit of your work. They also expect us to be ready for school and ready and happy to learn at 9:05 in the morning. (I’m not ready and not happy) The amount of homework you get it ok but with some options you pick in year 9 or 8 (I picked mine at the end of year 9 because of Covid) you get loads of homework. The teachers are boring and don’t really care about you unless you need special treatment or need extra help or stuff like that.
The gates close at 8:35 but shut way earlier than that and whatever reason you have for you being late, they won’t care and still put a late mark on. The food is ok on my standards but once I got food poisoning from the food which only lasted a few hours. Overall the only thing good is the practicals, the friends and the laid back teachers. Another note is that the amount of exams are over the top and not needed and that half of the stuff we learn is not useful in life. Also trampolining and individual sports is amazing.

don’t go to this school it’s horrendous

First of all the teachers don’t care about you and just shout at you for no reason at all and give you detentions for the dumbest reason, the students there are horrible and act like they’re better than everyone. There’s only about 5 nice teachers and the rest are horrible, i’ve only been here for a year but i would recommend not coming to this school. Especially when the school act like they care about you and your mental health and everything but in general they don’t care and don’t do anything about it. Food is unhealthy and disgusting

thurstable school

as a student of thurstable school i am not satisfied about the way the school works, they have very pathetic ways of dealing with minor situations such as isolating a student if they have a valid reason for example as to why they are wearing not the right school shoes for 1 day. They like to judge your appearance and make you feel guilty for how you look and feel and if you dont fit there standards you will be punished. Some teachers are very rude and disrespectful towards students. As for isolating students for minor reasons it means many people miss valid lesson and education time. The schools environment feels very off and many people come in on a daily basis moaning about something to do with the school.Teachers like to be akward in situations and waste a lot of parent time no matter if the parents are busy or not which then puts stress on them aswell. As a student of thurstable school,i should want to attend school and get a good education but because of the school i feel the opposite.

This school is horrible

I joined this school last year, it was kind of nice at first.
the teachers and students at this school are horrible so are the teachers, I was bullied so bad I didn’t even want to come in, it really doesn’t matter what you do to try and stop it, if a student or a parent/carer brought it up in a meeting they say they will deal with it but they don’t the most they do is give the students a warning even after repeatedly being told that the bullying is getting worse. There are a lot more things wrong with the school, the food tastes like paper and is expensive. The uniform is overly expensive. Some of the teachers are horrible to the students (some are quite nice)

This school may say they care a lot about your child but they really don’t.

I don’t recommend you send your child to this school

A Levels

Truly awful sixth form

I was at the sixth form here for my A levels between 2019-2021 and had a terrible experience overall.

I personally was harassed over my sexuality and gender identity and many of my friends reported sexual assault and harassment, all of which was ignored by the staff who claimed there was nothing they could do. Bullying was consistently ignored.

Ridiculous attention to making sure female students are covered up with absolutely no challenge to male students behaviour is disgusting. Their football programme especially is entirely unregulated, with male students getting away with anything they want because the school "needs" them.

Almost no funding is given to improving education. Money intended for libraries and books was spent on pointless doors and a glossier website. Stains, broken equipment and similar was left untreated. There is no quiet study space, and 2/3 of the study spaces are too loud to study in the majority of the time.

Teachers were entirely unapproachable, and students who needed extra help were ignored rather than help, with the staff seeming to focus entirely on high-performing students to the exclusion of all else.

The mental health of students was constantly ignored, or dealt with in a patronising, unprofessional manner.

The school also has many, many exams, far more than is suggested by the majority of teaching institutions, and most tuition is centred around exam technique and drills rather than learning and enjoying the process of education.

The grounds are ugly, poorly kept and soulless. The children of the school are also rude, dirty, loud and offensive as a whole, making the bleak concrete wasteland that the buildings reside in even more hostile.

Advertised "enrichment" opportunities are generally misleading and do not lead to anything that truly improves the student experience.

Admittedly some of my teachers would try their best to provide a good learning environment despite this, but were so hampered by the lack of funds and poor equipment they were only partially successful.

The canteens food is of astoundingly poor quality, consisting of bland, barely cooked meat and little else. Vegetables would sometimes still have stickers/packaging attached after cooking! No healthy options either, as everything is chocolates, crisps and fried food.

There is no attempt to help students improve, instead the school attempts to motivate with threats and shame.

I would recommend everywhere except this sixth form to study.

They say that they care about your mental health and they don’t, the teachers scream at you and put you down but some teachers are absolutely awesome and it’s only some teachers that let the school down

This place will not support you

I left in may 2021 now in college at a different place.
The school found out about my mental health and they treated my depression as a joke they spoke about it openly to other teachers as if it is a normal conversation. They then proceeded to follow me around school and ask me about it. In the end i stopped going but i heard from class mates they still talked about it. I have a sibling that still goes there and they said that the teachers check the girls bra colours to make sure they are the right colour, not to mention that this rule came in with the new head teacher and hes a male.

DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD COME HERE

This school is a disgrace I would NOT recommend this for your child the teachers are so disrespectful to the students and speak to them like dirt of the bottom of their shoe. The teachers are unfair and don’t listen and sort problems out that you are having. They pick sides and are very unfair and cruel about it!!! You are belittled and stood over by teachers made to think you have no say in what you do and that they rule and are in charge.

Former students review

I've been at this school since 2016, and all of the teachers were nice and helpful, until most of them left last year and we got a new headteacher, and then it started going downhill, the school asks you to spend so much money on equipment and clothing, my sister who's now year 8, just bought a new uniform and now we need another one a year later as well as all of the equipment, it's stupid, and the uniform looks horrific, it's three different shades of green between the tie, blazer and skort.

Ok school

I started this school in 2017 and left in 2018. It was ok to start with but after a few months I notice that some of the teachers were starting to pick on me because of my medical problems. When I mentioned it to my head of year I was told that I was over thinking it. I carried on with getting on with the school life but it just got worst. My parents got in contact with the head teacher and they said they would arise it at the next teacher meeting. Nothing change though it, we were getting fed up of this after about a year. So I was taken out of the school just before the mock exams started for myself and the rest in my year. We had a apology from the head teacher saying it should have never had happen but by this time we didn’t feel like giving them another chance.
