This school left me mentally broken after my experience. I was also bullied from year 7 to year 11, with minimal effort from staff members to help (who seem to only care about student performance; which would be much higher if they were mentally healthy)
The staff are on a constant power trip, the LGBTQ+ safe signs are merely decoration, and multiple students in my year have said they were stressed by the school, with some saying they actually had mental breakdowns. Putting better systems in place for student safeguarding is very necessary, since its what I have to blame for my miserable experience (and later suicide attempt). Blatant harassment is also prominent, and staff can be too focused on school culture to actually care about student wellbeing (talking to a student like you care about their issues doesn't negate the talk you had with them saying they'd never amount to anything a day prior).
Save your child the trauma. Don't send them here, they will come back depressed, inferior, lacking social skills and emotionally immature.
As a former student of Urswick School, I faced challenging situations. There were occasions where a teacher, in a position of authority, exhibited behaviour that was hurtful and unprofessional towards myself and my mother. Despite my mother’s attempts to address these concerns, they persisted, causing distress for an extended period, they even called me names I was 15 at the time and it made me feel like 💩.
Additionally, there were issues regarding sexual harassment within the school that went unaddressed by two female staff members when I was in year 8.
Throughout my time at Urswick School, I experienced persistent bullying from a fellow student spanning from year 7 to year 11. Despite my consistent efforts to report these incidents to teachers each year, there was a lack of support and intervention. Even when the bullying escalated to threats of physical violence and verbal abuse, no effective action was taken by the school staff to address the situation , despite me reporting it consistently every year since year 7.
Furthermore, I noticed a lack of support for students who required academic assistance, especially those facing difficulties. While I appreciated the provision of free school meals, I felt that the overall quality of education suffered, with a disproportionate focus on high-achieving students. One of the sets went without a teacher for a good couple of months despite GCSE’s around the corner.
Ok experience and see the school getting better day by day and there are lovely teachers but some of senior leadership team was unreasonable and said different things too teachers and parents . Also headteacher could be a bit unprofessional but the school was fair .
Originally had a bad reputation though the school keep improving. When i was apart of the school they did not do well with issues such as bullying very well but hearing from my younger siblings and their friends, they are doing much better now!
