As a parent, my experience with Steiner Academy has raised significant concerns regarding safeguarding procedures, transparency, and communication. Schools have a fundamental duty to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, yet I have personally witnessed multiple failures in this regard.
Safeguarding Failures and Duty of Care
One of the most troubling incidents I encountered involved my child being handed over to another parent without my consent, despite my arrival being only minutes away. This is a serious breach of standard safeguarding procedures and raises critical concerns about the school’s approach to child protection and duty of care.
A school’s primary responsibility is to ensure that children are always in a safe and supervised environment, with clear procedures in place to prevent unauthorised handovers. Incidents like this demonstrate a failure to uphold even the most basic safeguarding responsibilities, which is deeply concerning for any parent.
Lack of Transparency and Accountability
In addition to safeguarding issues, I have encountered misleading and inaccurate reports from the school that did not fairly represent the reality of situations. Rather than engaging in open and constructive dialogue, attempts to raise valid concerns have been met with dismissal and a lack of accountability.
Effective communication and honest, transparent reporting are essential in any educational setting. Parents must be able to trust the information provided by the school, and when that trust is undermined, it creates serious doubts about leadership and governance.
Engagement with Authorities
Due to the severity of these concerns, I have formally reported the school to the relevant authorities, including Ofsted. Schools must adhere to legal safeguarding requirements and uphold the highest standards of care. Ignoring or mishandling such responsibilities should not be tolerated.
Advice for Other Parents
If you are considering Steiner Academy for your child, I strongly encourage you to research thoroughly and seek independent feedback from a variety of sources. While the school may present itself as offering a unique educational approach, no philosophy can justify neglecting safeguarding responsibilities.
Would I recommend Steiner Academy? No. Until significant improvements are made in safeguarding, communication, and accountability, I cannot endorse this school as a safe or responsible choice for parents who prioritise the welfare of their children.
