Having attended this school in the 50's and 60's I can only describe this place as a Borstal.
Fagging, physical, mental and sexual abuse were rife.I couldn't wait to be discharged.
I can only hope that current students are not subject to the terrible regime as was I.
Not good at all. No idea how to deal with problem children. They put them all together so they ruined the education for the other children in the class. Very very poor teaching. Unfair PE department where they only let their favourites into the teams. Hope the new headmaster is better and less arrogant them the last one
The royal swim school has an unfair process in place, they have no real process in place my child was on the waiting list for 3 years and others were able to walk in and enroll their child at Thier convince, absolute shambles.
When challenged the staff responded in a very rude manner.
Feral students where bullying and intimidation are rife
Students are allowed to run around bullying and intimidating other students and staff; some examples include groups of 20+ students surrounding staff and hurling abuse at them. Even when two vice principles see this, it is basically ignored. Bullying is rife and students report it, but generally nothing is done as the school promotes independent thought, which basically means the strong survive and you need to bully and intimidate staff or students to get your top spot in the pecking order and then you are a prize student
the schools alright except for the fact the genuinely good and nice teachers are all leaving and getting replaced with teachers who can’t teach, they just waffle the most and dont go over things and just shout , they dont understand what tone to use when explaining and end up speaking loudly, its really annoying. but the school itself is decent? the pupils are good but some have a huge ego.
The stand out moments which led me to pulling my child out of The Royal:
The form tutor kept getting mixed up with the children - I was even given the wrong child at pick up!
Fights in the playground go unseen by teachers on duty. I then reported the fight and I was told by the Head that the rough kids with character usually end up being the best students. I was gobsmacked.
Over crowded playground and dangerous - since dropping the fees the population of the school has massively grown, and the playground has shrunk with temporary classrooms being built on playgrounds. Students are not allowed basic toys like a ball or skipping rope because there is not enough space.
Arrogance - due to the previous reputation of the school, they refuse to accept fault or reflect. The school has a 'if you don't like it - leave' attitude instead of a 'inclusive - let's make things better' attitude as they have a long waiting list.
No quality feedback - reports, learning etc not tailored enough to the children. Felt like my student was just a number going through a system.
My only pro is they have a wide range of after school activities.
Since leaving The Royal, I no longer worry while being at work 'is my child safe? is my child being acknowledged? Is my child getting the education he deserves?' And even though I voiced my concerns it fell of deaf ears.
