I was in year 10 and I had been being bullied since year 7 and nothing was done the teachers can't control the class their is constant misbehaving punishment isn't strict or harsh enough leading to misbehaviour in the class and none of the teachers could or would do anything about it clubs were run down or stopped and eventually the bullying got so bad that I am now terrified of schools and get panic attacks looking at the place and have now left to do home school instead I don't believe it is any better or worse than other schools so I would recommend just doing homeschooling from the get go and to not even attempt it or risk what it does to your mental health but I will say it does depend on the temperament of the people that are in the same year some kids are fine it's a hit or miss also all the years are separated at lunch so your stuck with your year
I am writing this review now after a fair share of experience at this school. Teachers: The teachers are hit and miss, some of them are just down right vile and just have I don’t give a sh** attitude towards students. It almost seems that they enjoy the power and control over the students and enjoy punishing students. SLT are mostly just a joke as many have mentioned and they just come to a class pull someone out give them a good shouting at and give them a detention- this has no effect on them whatsoever. Students: Students have a utter don’t care attitude most of the time, the bullying is just absolute awful ( from me being someone who has experienced it for themselves ) the teachers can’t even identify it when it is VERY clear. There is a lot of drugs and fights. Would I recommend it? Depends who you are but I probably wouldn’t.
Meh
I’m a current student here. I have been bullied and the staff cannot even care less about it most of the time. Staff are hit or miss and slt is just a mess with the head of slt is just a joke and most of the slt staff are just toxic. They couldn’t deal with a situation themselves and called the police over a minor situation which was absolutely traumatising to say they were year 8s. The education is okay the students are also hit and miss. Students can never learn from punishment and just re offend. Homework is manageable but the maths department are by far the worst homework can take up to 3 hour and if not completed it is an automatic after school on a Friday.
I go into my final week of Belvoir tomorrow and I can certainly say that I and many others are more than ready to leave for Post-16 options.
The quality of teaching at Belvoir is mostly okay and certainly does help when teachers are capable of controlling a class- unfortunately not all can... It puzzles me where the school employs and finds most newer teaching staff, it is quite okay to have 'off days' but some of the attitudes of these certain teachers purely just does stink. This effect lingers around classrooms, it creates a negative learning environment for students who then proceed to have no desire to work to a good standard- and is rather ironic to see these teachers suck up to Senior Leadership staff when they are present and change their attitudes completely. Some even rely on more experienced teachers to handle their own problems and control classes for them- leaving their own lessons to complain over students, now disrupting a new lesson. In my experience, this happens quite frequently with the English department and in my opinion, two members of that subject are not capable to teaching full classes to the expected standard.
As is normal, school culture varies across the years but a particular issue that seriously needs highlighting is the now FREQUENT PRESENCE OF DRUGS that has significantly risen since lockdown ending. Some pupils decide to take drugs in lesson with teachers completely oblivious, open your eyes! It really is not hard to see when a student is stoned from cannabis in a lesson but I guess some staff are just too numb-minded to pick up on this. When reading this you may think I am wording things quite harsh but this issue will affect the livelihoods of pupils and could be the polar opposite with effective enforcement from staff.
This brings me to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) themselves. In short, they aren't really that effective and the most they seem to do is throw a misbehaving student into isolation as that is the 'easy option' and requires less work. In isolation, students can quite happily help themselves to cups of tea and have quite lengthy and off-topic chats with staff, you can see where this is going- not much punishment. I know this from the rare time I have been in isolation myself, it is more relaxing than punishing.
I could spend all evening writing about Belvoir but I realise that this review will not achieve anything but some parts highlighted above need serious thought spending over, not a puny meeting and ineffective plans of action- but serious support needs to be offered.
I wish I could mention certain names in this review but that will only ring this review down for nobody to see.
If they ever see this review, a particular teacher, happening to be my form tutor has seriously helped my last few months at this school and we both share the same views on this place, the serious things that need highlighting. This teacher carries the respect in this place and is most certainly the cornerstone of any positivity left. I cannot blame them if they do, but for the sake of the remaining students- I hope they do not leave anytime soon. This teacher will 100% know who they are and I have no doubts about that. Thanks teacher.
In conclusion, before instantly jumping to this place out of ease, consider all of your options and this review for your child. It is nothing above average and with the current SLT in place, standards won't increase anytime soon.
Well done if you've read this far, thumbs up to you!
Average school. Poorly run and teachers had clear biases towards some students. A former drama teacher played games with year 11s instead of helping with their GCSEs. Every history class was pulled into assembly and rinsed for not doing well in tests when in reality we just weren't being taught effectively. In year 7 a friend of mine once had cooling racks thrown at them by a teacher because they weren't clean even though I was going to pick them up to wash. If you send your child here they will dread going into school and will be drained of all motivation and optimism by year 9 and will have their anxiety levels sky rocket. With this said, facilities were okay other than the gym in which 50% of the equipment was always broken and some teachers were actually really helpful and good at teaching.
From my experience, this school is not bad, but not great at the same time.
Some teachers care but other really do not and you get the impression that they are in the job for the sake of it. Most teachers cannot control a class and make it hard work for students who want to learn.
There are schemes such as “Peacock Pride”, which I assure you, a very little amount of students actually care for. Teachers believe that students care for tiny badges “Peacock Points” (variation of house points) which go to absolutely nothing.
Most of the SLT (Senior Leadership Team) are unkind people and you feel as if they are there to just rip into you and don’t listen to anything you have to say- jumping to conclusions with everything.
The communication with teacher to home is extremely poor and this has shown during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially with online lessons.
Safety and security is a big concern here as gates are left unlocked in mornings allowing ANYBODY into the school and low fences make it easy for ANYBODY again to get in or out.
To conclude this school is bang average and not much more. Teachers have clear favourites and care about popular kids more over than less popular. If you are looking for schools for your children, make sure to review all of your options before choosing this school
Awful enforcement of rules. Teachers don’t care about the mindsets. Bullying was horrific and SLT don’t care. It’s the same offending students that disrupt lessons and make others feel uncomfortable. The TLC staff were over run with year 11’s who were stressed out by the awful organisation and treatment by our head of year. I recommend you don’t send your child here as they will become depressed and not have a good enough education
Horrible. Horrible teachers. Only care about the popular kids. The pe teaches like to look at you when your changing. It’s a bit weird. The teachers couldn’t control the class. Wouldn’t recommend. They don’t take into consideration home life they just think of you as a grade
Wouldn’t recommend at all....
Teachers don’t care about how other students make others feel. The bullying is out of hand and lessons are very disrupted. I almost ended my life because of how I was treated
Ok education. Teachers were hit and miss ( some good and others not so good). Most of my grades came from the effort I put in at home and out of school hours. Quite a lot of disruptive students. Loads of litter around the place and the toilets not clean and the hand dryers work and then don’t. Trying to hard with different schemes and doesn’t work and to complicated, peacock pride, book week, sports day/s etc. Very spontaneous and not planned out well for students, sports fixtures home and away matches cancelled and times change on the day. Lack of communication between students and staff. Rules are not enforced fully by all members of staff and is one rule for one student and a different rule for another.
