The case of the young boy who faced racism in 2019 does not surprise me. The Oakwood Academy is supposed to be a diverse school, but there are a lack of role models amongst the staff for the students with a diverse background to turn to when in need. Most of the staff over the past few years with a diverse background have disappeared off the radar. Surely that must tell you something about the school.
Not even ofsted have noticed this in their observations the fact the school has never had any type of headteacher of colour and when you look at other diverse schools in Nottingham they have not failed to do this in their schools. It would be very interesting to interview all the diverse staff that have left that school to find out how racist the school actually is and their experiences.
Where to start, inadequate is a understatement.
There are the odd teacher that is OK but majority of them are on a power trip and think it's OK to speak to the children how they like.
Even the local police have nothing good to say, out of the mouth of a officer "I've not heard anything good about that school.".
Just be warned if you do choose to send your child there then good luck . Bullying is left un dealt with and they'll Segregate the one being bullied and leave the bully's in mainstream lessons.
i’m now a leaver of this school so i can talk freely.
for my 5 years there, the way bullying was dealt with was terrible. stealing was rife among students and nothing was done about it again. the SEN department if you can even call it that was poor at best, helping whoever shouted the loudest and caused the most issues while brushing every other kid with special needs under the rug. the uniform rules became stricter every single year - it’s like being part of some sort of military organisation what with everyone being expected to look and act the same with not a hair out of place. overall my 5 years here were terrible, so don’t bother sending your kids here if you can send them elsewhere.
I go to Oakwood academy and it’s not a good school unless your pretty and skinny and have the right things to be popular and liked if you don’t the kids there who do bully you so bad and get everyone to bully you and the school doesn’t do much about it, the teachers are too bad but some are horrible and get you into trouble for no reason, the stairs in the blocks are so thick and tall that it’s tiring to get up but the stairs up to the main floor are thin and very wide, the food is okay but people waste their break when they’re finished eating because the teachers don’t let you out until a certain time and you haven’t even got 5 minutes to go from block to block and into your classes. The head teaches change too much, the uniform also changes so much every once in a while without the students knowledge
Overall the school is pretty good but there is still no real feeling of being settled teachers are always leaving and since being at oakwood I have had 4 head teachers as well im in my final year and hadn't be given any real advice on how to get our predict grades and honestly the food tastes like it's from a bin
The school isn’t bad. I go there and the most of the teachers are nice and good teachers. However there is no consistency with the school. So many different teachers coming and leaving. Rules that get changed all the time. I can never get settled with anything because I know things will change soon. This is very much due to the fact that there have been too many changes in the senior staff over my time there. I’ve had 4 headteachers than and we are about to move on to another. It’s tiring and not good for the school and something needs to be done. Also the food needs to improve massively !
When I was at that school most of the staff where nice and u could go to when u needed to talk about personal issues. They try there Hardest to stop bullying and racism when they are informed that it’s happening also most students don’t speak up about what’s happening as there scared
Though the school likes to keep up a decent appearances, the school truly is better on paper. There are a handful of decent teachers, but there are a few questionable ones too. Also like many, the schools doesn't take as much action on bullying, racism, etc as it tells everyone it does. Not to mention the strict uniform policies that get updated without students' notice.
