I was here for 2 years and I can honestly say that it was one of the worst 2 years of my life. I did enjoy my first year but as my learning difficulty became apparent, the teachers were not helpful. The head of the junior school had a set of handcuffs with a key in his office and was not understanding of the help and support I needed. If you have any learning difficulties or are different in any way, this isn't the school for you.
The Maynard school for girls on the face of it is a school which nurtures and looks after the girls in it’s charge, however, this cannot be further from the truth, the school has a long history of bullying, predominantly psychological however there has been cases of physical violence, although it should be noted that the latter is in the minority. What is deeply concerning is that the majority of the bullying is coming from the senior leadership of the school, stating that students will not amount to anything if they do not attend university, and that they would be lucky to be stacking shelves at Tesco. As well as many other belittling comments that students are more the likely to link the self-worth and value to which will only go forward, negatively impact them in the future, if they wish to go against the trend of university, which is pushed upon the students that attend Maynards.
A brilliant, bold and beautiful girls’ school offering a forward thinking, ever evolving, holistic education. Extremely talented, approachable and expert teachers. A friendly, refreshingly informal, always welcoming atmosphere when I visit as a parent. The students do brilliantly academically, creatively and in terms of their overall self development. This is because they are happy, cared for, respected, encouraged to be themselves, to follow their own paths and interests but to always care for and support each other too. A very empowering environment for girls and young women.
Don’t be outside normal - you must fit usual criteria
No help is available if you are outside the ‘normal’. Including above the normal. You have to fit the ‘norm’. Then you will do gr8. It’s like a factory production unit. Do NOT be an individual!!!!!
bullying isn’t taken seriously , and there’s a lot of very outdated and misogynistic rules. also a lot of pressure on students to get perfect grades and attend clubs every lunchtime. some teachers are very sexist, and detentions are given for unreasonable reasons. :/
