Avoid this school if your child has special needs

We had high hopes for this school when our first child started there with special needs as they had a large SEN department. Now we know different. We have had no end of issues with the school not adhearing to the SEN agreements for our child (mainly due to so many staff coming and going) and now he refuses to go to school and we have had to seek independant councelling for him. My daughter has just started there and she has dyslexia and ADHD and now she is refusing school and we have found out that again nothing that was agreed before the start of school has not been implemented. The head of SEN has also refused to apply for an EHCP even though CAMS our GP and others have said he needs one, so we have been forced to do it ourself and the school are now dragging their feet to give us the info we need. This place is appauling and I will ensure any other parents out there are aware of this before they decide to move their kids here with special needs.

Bullying Not Being Called Onto In School.

Skye Teale loves this school as I do not however it's deserved because no one likes her as they shouldn't. However quick little story, one time a student in my year (Kathryn Moscrop) was got sexually harassed and abused by a student who was in Special Education Needs (SEN) this included the students trying to have underage sexual intercourse with her which she had refused knowing the law quite well and when the teachers came to find out about this they had done nothing as they said it would ruin their reputation. The student went on and have apparently been kidnapped and destroyed said the guy sexually harassing her. A couple of hours later, the student which was being bullied came back at 12:05 saying that she was at a dentist appointment. Tired of this, she had finally came out and said what had been happening and the teachers did not care. Briefly a student named Kathryn Moscrop had been harassed and bullied and the teachers did not seem to care.

Amazing school

During year 7, i was really unsure. I’ve got the hang of it now. The Boys are so supportive and kind, you can really be yourself around them. The school allows us to express ourselves freely, and are really supportive for students struggling with mental health, family issues etc. I know everyone has their own personal opinions, but i think AHS has been one of the best decision i’ve ever made. They let students from all different backgrounds express themselves through pride parades and cultured dances etc.

Decline in school

I find the school has declined significantly recently, the health and safety of children are compromised, it seems you can threaten and carry sharps and still be ok to attend the school. The safety of the children is a huge worry for parents and some heads of year seem unable to deal with this, and the heads of the school seem non existent
Skiving a lesson is same punishment as bullying it appears and I feel this school has massive safety concerns. Very concerning sad times.
If I could choose again, I'd never send my kids here.

Worst school in Aylesbury

Bad school. I really hate this school so much, the students were so bad there, fights are everywhere in every schools, my classmates were so disrespectful, they throw everywhere around the class and teachers didn’t teach them properly. The students in my class throw some paper aeroplane which is annoying, in Science we have a cover teacher and a lot of students weren’t in the right seat, they sat next to their friends and they were even talking and the cover teacher was so stupid, she cannot control the class and the student’s behaviour level was high, I feel unsafe in this school, even though I talked with my head of year about it and he said that he couldn’t do anything about it. All the teachers and members of staff has treated me rudely like I was a spoiled brat, and bullying is everywhere in every schools, I will not recommend coming this school again, and some stupid students wrote inappropriate comments that aren’t good, and the janitors didn’t wash them off, and the floor should be cleaned but wasn’t cleaned properly. I have been gotten bullied multiple times and teachers cannot do anything, and in the canteen the line was a cue, no wonder why the teachers have every year had lunch together and it was crowded, and the stupid social workers didn’t let other years to get lunch, they literally let the Year 10 get lunch first, and the students was so hungry that they had nothing to eat, such a worst school ever. I had been dealing with anxiety and stressful situations that teachers cannot deal with it. I have been trying to transfer schools, just as there were no space, which is the problem, i will never come to this school again, just as the school was just worst as every school, which everyone just go to this school, which is the problem and wouldn’t have space there, which is not good. I really don’t like going to school, it is just the worst school ever.

First hand account

I am a student who has just left to do my A-levels at another school. Year 7 was an alright year for me, but it was mainly about people figuring out where they are in the food chain. Some teachers were lovely but others abused their power and status just to punish kids they didn't particularly like.

Year 8 and year 9 was the time where I struggled with my mental health because students started to push their limits with each other. Teachers used to use the same excuse of 'It's puberty' and didn't seem to handle it very well. One of my teachers for English used to storm out the class in a huff every time someone spoke. She had no ability to control the class and once stormed out of class leaving us to be taken over by the deputy head of English. She also is awful. i managed to move class with one other student after we complained to our year head. Our year head at that time was amazing and i have never met a better teacher. My old year 7 English teacher started to be someone to talk to about my mental health when i first started struggling with it. She then recommended me to the actual counselling professional at the school, who seemed so uninterested and really had a lack of care for everyone who saw her. There were several instances of teachers being rude, racist or inappropriate to students. This includes one male music teacher who got on his hands and knees to check the girls skirts were at the correct length. One DT teacher who said so many racist comments about several students in one class, that one entire class (30 odd students) went to report him and right statements about him. One Spanish teacher was reported for being racist as well in her lessons, but that took until year 10 before anything happened. There was an instance of around five fire alarms being pulled in one day, so the acting head locked every single year into the MUGA for a half-an-hour detention after school. I missed this because I was on school trip, that returned as people were leaving. Several videos were shown to me of people screaming, crying and trying to scale the 25ft fence because they wanted to leave. I still believe that moment bred a new kind of disrespect for many staff members, and lowered peoples tolerance for bad teachers. This was also the time where most instances of bullying and fights broke out. There was a ten minute window at lunch once in year 8 where five fights managed to break out in one hit.

In year 10, things weren't much better. There were still high levels of bullying and several instances of racial incidents that were then blamed on the victims. One child was called the n-word which was then not punished in the slightest, the person who got called the slur called someone a coat hanger and received internal inclusion for it. Racism is a strong part of staffing body I feel. The mental of the student body severely declined during this time and only those who were not 'troubled' behaviourally got help. Any student troubled behaviourally never got any help for anything, including in family life at home. One kid was actually kicked out of his mums house, and had no way to get to his dads so he had to stay the night at an acquaintances house. The teachers were aware of this as the student used to talk about it in lessons, but they did nothing. People with learning difficulties were also not well looked after. One of my friends used to leave school for extra veterinary courses, that were specialised for people with learning difficulties. All staff were made aware of this, except several teachers used to give her detentions for missing the class. This then meant that her place at the course was threatened because her attendance was 'too low'. GCSE education varies depending on the teacher. Some teachers can do amazing but others will not. Others will in fact make the students forget the most basic knowledge. My year head during this time was also a maths teacher who taught the SEN class. She rarely turned up to lesson, or no other reason than the fact she didn't want to be there. And yet bad grades are always blamed on the students. Certain teachers will not put in the effort to help the struggling student and will just ridicule them in the middle of class. The drama head was suspended during this time for showing Chameleon to his Year 13 class. They had got permission from the students to watch it. But the second drama teacher wanted his job and proceeded to tell the school heads that the drama work was inappropriate. When the drama head was suspended, the other teacher spread rumours around the staff body about how the drama head was talking inappropriately to students and got caught watching cp on his laptop. This then meant the drama head was suspended for nearly an entire year. This sparked some outrage amongst certain teachers who left in protest. After the second drama teacher was found out she left, she was not fired. And the drama head left as he felt betrayed by the school.

In year 11 it was more of the same. And on results day many teachers did the same of ridiculing students who did bad that they had personal prejudice against. At the end of the academic year, nearly half the staff body left the school. The entire computing and art departments left. Half the RS/RE, History, English and Science departments left. There was supposed to be a joint sixth form run between PRS and Mandeville, but now all courses are being taught at PRS because all the teachers that were supposed to teach from Mandeville had left.

One maths teacher that I won't name, was awful. She ran better on 3hrs sleep than 10hrs and that automatically was our fault. She was made aware by teachers and students from our year in year 11 that there was a whole school trip. When we turned up for a lesson while half the year was away on the trip, she exploded at us for not telling her about how many were going. Whenever there was an event for whatever, despite knowing she would have been informed by the staff assemblies held every morning, we would still need to tell her or she would explode. She was unstable all the time. I had her from year 7 to 11. And her lessons gave me some of my worst memories of that school. Other worst memories came from either bad Science, Geography, English and form tutors. And the rest came from the student body themselves. If you are not 'popular' or act out in lessons, then you are a target. If you tell on people for doing bad things, you are a target.

My advice is please don't send your child here or to the grange school. Send them anywhere else available. If Mandeville is your only option then please make sure that you are wary that the staff body is not fair to anyone. The heads of school are arrogant, lazy, prejudiced and don't listen to the student body in the slightest. I have seen instances of people's parents, not only the child, being threatened with worst punishments if the parents won't comply, accept or drop anything. If your child says they have a bad teacher, believe them because it is most likely true. If they are struggling with anything, encourage them to go to their favourite teacher because that is the only teacher that is going to do anything.
And please teach your child that as much as it is the right thing to do, do not tell on anyone unless it is anonymous, or the rest of the students will make their lives hell. If the 'popular' people or the people who act out in class try to talk to them, make sure your child talks to them how they would their normal friends, because then they won't put themselves in a bad position

Bullying is never dealt with, however severe

An awful school where bullying is laughed at and ignored by members of staff. This is not a safe and nurturing environment for any child. Approx 30 teachers left before the summer break. The school needs a complete new leadership team. I would never recommend The Mandeville School to anyone.

Unethical and Unaccountable Academy

This Academy is awful. The Senior leaders are unethical and unaccountable and do not put the needs of children first. They have no problem telling outright lies, harassing families and operate a culture of bullying. If you have a child with SEN needs you honestly would achieve better outcomes for them if you steer well away from this establishment. They have no regard for the equalities act victimise children who are vulnerable

Disgusting and very little recourse to accountability for Academies

Year 7

Worst School In Aylesbury

Worst School In Aylesbury! My child started year 7 in Sept 2021. By May 2022, I had to unenroll them. The school has no idea and every failure will harm each child individually. Their brush under the carpet approach defies what they should be doing, Safeguarding children. Their bullying is by far the worst I have come across. Some staff are as bad as the children. I would never recommend this school now or in the future. Avoid at all costs. Children deserve better than what they provide.

It’s crap

Honestly it’s a really crappy school
Like don’t send ur kids here unless ur willing to pay for their therapy. This schools literally gunna give ur child crippling anxiety and a truckload of trauma. And get used to seeing ur kid mentally breakdown cause it’s gunna happen a lot and don’t worry they 100%care about their students wellbeing by giving them so much work that they cannot keep up and instead of helping them they will give them detention
All in all this school will kill your child’s will to live

Never again

Student
I went to this from yr 7 all the way to yr 13
During the secondary portion I had a teacher laugh at me when I told him I was bullied, the entire year get locked into the multi use game area (a caged playground type thing where the gates are like 20-25 ft high) because one student pulled the fire alarm yhe school claimed that everyone who was suffering from anxiety was released straight away but i know that’s a lie because I have anxiety and the school kept me locked up, the school cares more about students hair colour then hiring an actual teacher for gcse geography and locking students into classrooms by themselves away from there lessons when they accused them of doing something wrong
In the sixth form part me and many others were harassed my another student but instead of punishing the students the teachers protected him because as females us complaining about him to the teachers was gang behaviour
I went through a lot of this school and will never ever want to relieve it this stuff is only part of what happened
The good side tho is there were lots of teachers who were acc really nice and genuinely care about us and he memories I have made with my friends when I wasn’t being raciall attacked by deputy heads

Just dont

In my early years here I truly had hope for the school, however the longer I stay the more I realise they have started caring less for the students and more for their outlook.

In just the previous school year (yr12-2021-22) I have watched the school ignore several counts of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and sexual harassment. At one point going as far as to blame the last on the victims.

Recently many safeguarding staff have also been removed from the school for a reason unbeknownst to the student population. We now only have the deputy head to rely on for safeguarding concerns and she in fact was one of the teachers who let the fore-mentioned issues slide.

You or your child will not be safe and protected here. In a school where a girl not having an undercut is more punished then expressing violently bigoted opinions and fostering an environment for all sexual harassment to spread, it’ll be impossible to feel well educated.

I would rate this school 0 stars but i cant. I moved in the middle of yr 8. A couple months into being at mandeville i was harassed by a teacher and she tried to force me into isolation because i had 2mm ( and i mean 2mm ) of red in my roots and as i have diagnosed anxiety and autism i started to panic and cry, i stopped breathing at one point and when i said i couldn’t breathe they didnt get the nurse they just sat me down and left me crying and gasping for air even though i had over 3 puffs of my inhaler. At the end of yr 7 i was sexually assaulted in class and no one took it serious until the start of yr 8 when i wore leggings from how i would think about what happened while i was in school trouser, i was told off for my leggings but as soon as i said what happened and why i dont like wearing the trousers they simply just took me to a safeguarding person and she was the only nice teacher in the school. She called a organisation of which shows where he is from how he had moved counties. After a couple weeks i only went into school 2 times a week and i started getting labeled as copying after my bipolar sibling. And the SEN was horrible and would kick me out even if i was panicking or feeling horrible, i would be chased around when i said i was going for a walk around the school ( which i was allowed to do ) after a while i signed myself up to grange, john collet and lord williams. After a month of waiting i was excepted into a new school and on my last day my friends were drawing on my shirt but my friends had to stay on the different side of the school at break so i had to go over to them and i was given a hour detention even though i wasnt doing anything wrong

Personal experience

The only acceptional part about the school is the social experiences you make whilst being there. The facilities aren’t great, the teachers are acceptional however, some do not deal with many situations appropriately such as (behaviour wise and formal manner), for example, there also have been situations which involved racial prejudice first hand, it was not resolved and only seperated the individuals involved without a consequence. I also wouldn’t reccomend this school for those who need more assistance in their learning, this is a big factor for those who can not work independantly or are behind in their learning as they will provide the least of help to you. The food is average however the constant repetetive choices are not as diverse as you would hope to be. The atmosphere the school establishes is average but not great, this is also partially not a disabled friendly school and there would be many disadvantages prior to other pupils. The sports programmes the school ensures handles a very enthusiastic and well experience. Overall my personal experience was not exceeding to even half of my expectations, this school requires alot of development however im not sosure they’re willing to do that.

Bad school

My opinion is the school is very bad and teachers at that school think your child is in the wrong and I had a racist incident and they blamed my child and said he was in the wrong and they stick up for the teachers and they can’t admit when they are wrong!!
