The school overall looks amazing from the 'reviews' at first.Which is not the case at all.The teachers, don't get me started some are nice but the other just constantly pick on people, especially if they have adhd since 'its not real' according to them and the safe guarding staff they don't let you go to the toilet, there's fights almost everyday sometimes multiple a day,if you get sent out of the class room for chat about yourbehaviour you are screamed at and told you are useless, worthless and that you are stupid. The teachers that ARE nice are the ones in pupil support, they are the nicest people you will genuinely meet.Bullying, bullying is an extremely common thing at The Hollins whether it's in person or online it's fake accounts on Snapchat, tiktok,Instagram you name it they are everywhere they don't help you get through it they just tell you to get off the app/site or "lock your device in the cupboard for the weekend" the only reason I even bother going is to see my friends,I am so lucky to have a year group which is actually nice but others I couldn't imagine what they are going through the year8s are vile.Once you get past that The Hollins is an okay school a 4/10 at most.Do not send your child here it's terrible .Please.Save your kids mental health and reputation they are worth much more than this school they do not even reach the high standard they expect the pupils too. There seven core values arnt even a thought when it comes to the way some staff treat your children. Some people don't deserve to work around children let alone make sure they are 'safe' for 6 hours for 5 days a week that's 28 hours a week your child is feeling miserable and tired not physically but mentally from the he'll hole that school is.
What a terrible school front desk staff are rude. There's no help from staff child makes one mistake and get punished two time I arranged a meeting and 15 months later still waiting taking my child out of that school and home schooling there's a lot of reviews for the holins school in Lancashire hyburn I don't recommend this school to anyone!!!!!!!
Homework rues and amounts are beyond ridiculous. Uniform rules are out of hand and punishments are harsh (introduction of 3h detentions on Friday for missing homework). It is possible to PAY YOURSELF OUT OF A DETENTION by buying equipment. Ways of teaching are very repetitive in most subjects often including work sheets and lbq tablet tasks (no real teaching just following questions). So called ‘standards’ are out of control with the introduction of ridiculous acronyms such as STEPS, LEADS and SHAPE clearly put in place to tick boxes and to create an obvious power divide between students and teachers. Many student rewards and charity events have been scrapped (non uniform days and a criteria to be able to go on end of year trips). Food is expensive, small portioned and simply awful to the taste. Only positive to this school is the small bunch of teachers that truly make an effort to create a good learning environment that is enjoyable. Many students do not enjoy their time in the school. Overall a awfull school that ticks boxes to seem like a good one.
school is terrible, the students are all mean and rude, expecially the higher years.
the food is okay, alot of the meat is uncooked most of the time.
the staff are amazing, and the pupils treat them like dirt.
the bullying is horrendous, yet they have an anti-bullying policy.
dont even bother reporting anything, because they never do anything.
this school overall is a great learning environment with horrible surroundings.
Okay so someone legit got called a stripper by Mr Bridges, the pedo, also most the teachers generally are terrible like in all honesty how do half those teachers maintain a job, all the teachers ever do is yell when we ask questions even tho they don't explain properly. Like fr if ur gonna yell have a point. Also nobody learns anything cuz it's either stuff we already know or the subject is so boring no one is listening, they give out detentions for not having ur shirt tucked in like it's going to change anything. Honestly just a terrible school don't send your children here
The hollins is an ok school. They say they have an anti bullying policy but they do not deal with bullying appropriately. I was at this school and had to leave after not even being there for 2 years due to the amount I was bullied and nothing was done to stop it or prevent it. Lessons were ok, a bit boring but like most schools. Food needs improvement, the options are not varied and the best day was chippy Friday. I went most days without my lunch and nobody questioned it until I said something. In English, one of the teachers taught us about goths for a full year which was extremely boring and irrelevant to most people, as well as it not being on the curriculum for a years worth of work. The amount of homework in year7/8 was unmanageable and their behavioural system needs improvement. If your child can put up with bullying and doesn’t have a job or things after school it’s not too bad, but make sure to take a packed lunch!
There are some amazing teachers at this school and I was able to learn to an incredible standard leaving with 3 grade 9s. However, there are some aspects of the school e.g. the ways they deal with bullying and certain situations which are unacceptable. They are awful at preventing bullying despite making promises to help or stop bullying.
As much as I learn so much at this school me going there has caused my mental health to decrease so much since my arrival. They say they care about it and that students should feel able to talk to a member of staff but half the time the counslers the teachers we should be able to trust with out problems are busy having custodial parties. And we are taught nothing about how to GT a job or anything we will need when we leave school. Also the food there is not suitable for dietary requirements of students whether they be vegan, vegetarian or any other diet. My friend is a vegetarian and dairy free she couldn't get just potato's and gravy because she "had" to have chicken with it aswell even though she told them she's a vegetarian
