The Grangefield Academy may have gained the approval of Ofsted but there are definitely faults in its system. There was far too much pressure placed on students in higher sets (expecting them to be at the standard of later years without the support to do so and anger when that expectation wasn’t met). The teachers often favoured belittling/embarrassing pupils and yelling rather than helping them or going through actual disciplinary systems. Bullying was supposedly something they were strict on yet that was never proven and bullying continued to be a massive issue there, to the point of (sometimes sexual) assault in some cases. Neither of these things were ever properly handled. On top of this, the students were rarely informed of changes to their school day or timetables and lack of organisation was often abundantly clear. The only saving grace of the school is the curriculum.
The school may have risen from the ashes all the way to a ‘Good’ OFSTED review but it has its fair share of issues. They weren’t great at dealing with the emotional side of being a student and alot of bullying flew under the radar, even after it was reported. There was a lack of control and many teachers favour bullying tactics of screaming and shouting over trying to get to the root of a problem. Can’t fault their curriculum though.
I experienced some of the best years of my life in this school. The teachers were extremely supportive and allowed me to reach my full potential at the time. They also prepared me for college so that my transition would be as easy as possible. Overall, I would recommend this school to everyone who's searching for top quality education.
