Looking over the course of my 5 years at dorms ton I thoroughly believe that they were some of the best cars of my life. With a long serving roster of staff who were passionate, experienced and very good at their respective fields, there were never any moments bar one where I though I was in the hands of in experienced teachers who did not meet secondary school teacher standards. The school was constantly renovating and building new features to improve the school, however, some buildings such as A block and B block had required renovation long before I joined in 2015. There was a huge variety of subjects and whilst I was there, the school had a very authentic home town feel to it where everyone knew everyone allowing us to be a very tight nit year group who were pleasant to one another as well as us being able to develop relationships with those who taught us. It can not go un-noted that since 2018 the school had seen a decline in its quality of teaching, staff and its in my view diabolical new method of behaviour correction that is the re focus room and its new approach to detentions. I truly believe that though dorms ton isn't any where near its peak of the years 2016-2018 but I believe that Dormston has the potential to return to its former glory if its management team steer the school back in the direction it was going just a few years ago. In essence the school needs to go back to basics and not over complicate its disciplinary methods and not over complicate their approach to shaping its young people into good students and decent British people. If these simple steps are taken then I have no doubt Dormston will be great yet again and even more attractive to the parents of Sedgley, and beyond. Undeniably, the class of 2020 represented the true character of Dormston school and were nothing but a reflection of Dormston's potential. They have gotten it right before and I hope that in the coming years we will see Dormston turn a corner and fulfil as well as exceed its potential.
it’s literally so bad. they couldn’t care less about mental health and student wellbeing. had a panic attack before one of my mocks and got yelled at, got bullied by about half my year to the point i was really struggling and they literally couldn’t have cared less if they tried. rules are way too strict and you can get a detention for literally anything. the behaviour system doesn’t even help as classroom behaviour has been so bad in the past i’ve gone home with consistent headaches and had to move classes. there’s a few nice teachers, but there’s some really horrible ones which manage to make you hate the entire experience, i’ve been counting down the days until i leave since year 7. do not send your child here.
They were so ableist to me, as a chronically ill person and very LGBTphobic too.. Was not respected by staff whatsoever and was bullied horrendously throughout high school and nothing was done!
Teachers were disgusting too, seemed above students and spoke to student in abhorrent ways, do NOT send your children here!!!
Love going to Dormston in every aspect like learning, friends, preparation for later life etc. Everything you’d expect from a normal high school. I enjoy going here and wouldn’t swap it for another school.
Absolutely awful experience was bullied a few times and everything was blamed on me the pastoral team don’t care about anyone’s wellbeing and you get yelled at for just breathing. One member of staff in particular is ableist as she shouted “are you deaf” down someone’s ear hole which could be demoed as highly offensive. The school expects you to respect the staff but they don’t respect the pupils in the slightest especially senior management
The school is incredibly hit and miss with dealing with safeguarding some teachers go above and beyond for students having a hard time they take time out of their day to check up on them while others staff aren’t so great even though they are in a safeguarding position they aren’t properly trained to help
Horrible honestly. I got bullied for years and they did nothing but blame it on me . There way very little support in the ways that were needed and ik alot of other individuals that feel the same .
