not good.

Teachers are racist and don’t help students with their mental health.

Horrible so called school

I wish I could give zero stars. The so called school is run like a prison. I as a former student attribute and mental health issues to the treatment I received here. The teachers are extremely racists towards black people including some of the self hating 'black' staff. Moreover, they don't take bullying serious at all, and the rules were just ridiculous. It was just a means of having power. This place should have been shut down a long time ago. Emily Crowhurst in particular was horrible.

This Academy need to be close down!

My experience with the headteacher, duty head and teachers are not satisfactory. Their behaviour is not welcoming and the way to treat black students is totally wrong. I as a parent will not recommend City Academy Hackney. Students are left to swallow their saliva all day due to the m cannot eat the disgusting school meal. They are also put into solitary confinement without eating or a drink of water because they do not have their water bottle.

Quite the experience

Where do I even start with this school. When I came around 5/6 years ago in year 7, it was complete hell. Not because of the students, but also because of the teachers and the school’s behaviour. Back then, the teachers weren’t that bad as a lot of them had worked there for many years but since then, they’ve all left for schools that pay better and are better not just in terms of status from ofsted (looking at you, Mossbourne) but also in terms of environment because if i’m being honest, I never felt that great inside the building during school hours. Of course it had it’s special moments in terms of opportunity (especially in the music department) but overall, it was absolute garbage. The students are a chaotic mess whose loudness would only grow when incapable teachers attempt to make them stop. Even the teachers can’t do their job properly; my friend and I were subjected to rude and racist remarks by a staff member whose punishment was a simple slap on the wrist when it was reported: he had to apologise and keep his job. But i’m sure the only reason why the school kept him is because they are BROKE. The school may look modern but it’s basically collapsing under the little funding they have left after charging students to PAY to drink water out of their own stupid branded bottles. But of course I survived 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼. Honestly, if you’re a smart student, you’d be able to enjoy this school enough because as long as you show to the teachers that you’re a student who’s capable of essentially teaching yourself (all the teachers are busy struggling to handle the younger years which only gets harder every year) they won’t focus their attention on you. And, quick tip for any brave newcomers if you’re still reading this, being in the art or music department afterschool is the best thing ever. And shoutout to a certain spanish teacher if he’s still teaching there. Mr cozensa you’re a school gem. Simply the funniest and coolest teacher I’ve met who seems to actually enjoy teaching from the one year you’ve taught me even if it was the same year that covid kicked off. I hope you’re doing well :)

(honestly when you’re in y11, it really isn’t that bad; in terms of my year group as long as you’re not a total drama queen, you really feel that family experience with the people you surround yourself with but I really doubt it nowadays given that I see students fight outside the school weekly)

don’t send your child there, it’s a literal prison

school claims they are outstanding because of their outdated ofsted report that was done like back in 2012 or something, when it is quite the opposite. teachers are getting worse cause all the good ones have left to get higher pay elsewhere, so new ones with less training are being employed, uniform is a terrible colour, and the environment just sucked. we weren’t allowed water bottles before but ever since covid they’ve let people have them now. we got told off (or given a detention) for wearing our coats inside the building even though the teachers wear theirs, and i knew somebody who got penalised for having henna on their hand after celebrating eid, despite one of their rules in their handbook being to “respect a person’s race, gender, religion, etc”. save yourself and your child the hassle of going there!!!
