I’m currently in year 8 and so far it’s been alright! Some teachers are absolutely awful at what they do but most of them are chill. But when bullying comes into play they don’t really do much.
Throughout my 5 years at this place, I have mostly negative memories and views to this school not to mention the town itself, is also somehow worse than the school. The school is way too strict and focus way too much on looking smart making you pay way more on uniform with tiny little logos added which are barely noticeable. The teachers were actually ok for the most part, they teached well but failed to control the behaviour of other students which ruined lessons. The SLT besides 2 which have since left were horrible, barely doing anything to fix issues and being constantly bullied over my 5 years, I found most of the time I was getting in trouble more for staying home to avoid being bullied, than the bullies themselves which shows they don't care for their students. The yard and the surrounding areas were filled with litter and seagulls and barely any staff were outside, maybe 2 or 3 most of the time. You weren't even allowed to take blazers off even in warm weather without asking or you get told off which was stupid, hoodies also being banned and stolen from you along with phones not being able to be used outside of lessons, I found to be horrible. The students that came from the area were the worst, being extremely racist and rude to everyone for a laugh and the area itself is filled with potholes and just bad vibes, they also bullied students out of the school itself and almost did the same to me, making it worse that the teachers barely did anything, mainly telling them off, giving warnings which were useless and thats it.
The food in the cafeteria was very bad, often having barely any at all and would all be gone in 10-15 minutes, the food itself was also not good at all, often tasting bad, rotten or just out of date and costing way too much.
A positive thing would be the actual building itself, it feels accessible and clean, the classrooms are clean and nice, the different blocks and their colours are easy to understand, but they can be absolutely packed and easily fell down when leaving or going to lessons as they can be very crowded since all 800+ students leave at the same time. Would not recommend going here after primary, if you have no other choice, leave as soon as you can and don't attend any sixth form they may create, go to another sixth form or college.
They don’t tell your parents good things only bad things to make you get in trouble nothing else The teachers aren’t good some teachers are very nice but some teachers your trapped with no matter what I hate my history teacher and RE the only good thing is the hive but THE FACT THE teachers ARE ONLY IN FOR MONEY
Absolutely awful place, i’ve just left to go to a sixth form of a different school and i can’t stress how bad Bolsover was. The teachers, students and system are bad. SLT have consumed themselves with being good on paper that they’ve ran the school into the ground. On my first day of year 11 we were forced to walk in a single file line made by temporary metal railings whilst (mainly middle aged, male) SLT members watched you enter the school and pulled you away if your skirt was too short or trousers weren’t school issued. It’s all well and good wanting the students to look smart but when it turns into a line of men staring down at 11-16 year olds skirts, it’s too far and made many of my female peers feel more than uncomfortable. I wanted to move for so long but wasn’t able to due to personal circumstances, i’m so glad that i’ve gone to a sixth form of a school that is actually good destroyed my mental health. Only give their time to all the poorly behaved students who they refuse to give actual punishments to. If you are an average child who acts well behaved expected to get bullied something that the teachers don't care about. No support besides online links for mental health. Made me question if life was worth living. Some teachers r cool tho even if they don't really acknowledge my hard work and just simply reward me for behaving normally. The best you'll get is a place in a raffle of 100 students for a £5 gift card at the end of the year. I tried really hard and they still give me crap grades even though when I took actual tests I got higher than what they put at my end of year grades.. you'll thank me once you choose a different school, it would've really changed my life for the better.
Let's just say this school is rude, judgemental and has horrible teacher the amount of tiems students have to walk out of class due to the teachers the amount of times children go home crying because they have been sick at school gone down to medical (because teachers have told us to) and they don't care and don't even inform parents and are super judgemental about it and one of the women on reseption is rude incredibly rude she aways says "they won't care about you in reseption just go back to lesson we have more important things to deal with"
Pretty good, many teachers are kind and relaxed and treat you like adults, the education aspect is very good as teachers are passionate and truly care for the students the cafeteria food is pretty nice however can be expensive at times, the courtyard is pretty large and has plenty of space for all years. The subjects offered for all students to take for GCSE has recently been expanded however I did not get to choose any of these having been a year ten/eleven when they came out which i thought was rather unfair, nonetheless I believe that overall it is a very good environment for young learners.

Horrific school, terrible teachers and all lies at the interview, racist students etc. The town in general is horrific, and I’m moving the minute I’m 18.
