🤷what do they actually teach

i heard from a grapevine🤔🤔 that literally everyone was on leave, the substitutes didn’t know what to do and if you want to try and get half decent grade you have to do an insane amount of home study. I’m going to get somewhere in life fr but this school wouldn’t help me even make a step, just saying🥰

Awful. Just awful.

Bullying is rife. Teachers don’t care and won’t deal with the issue. Children suffering with panic attacks and anxiety are left. Serious assaults happening in school grounds. Terrible school, terrible leadership team. Deeply disappointed. Please do not send your children here, they deserve so much better.

really bad with some good things

for the most part it’s awful students barely get punished for stuff like hate crime but if ur skirt is 2cms above ur knees or uve dyed ur hair u get slaughtered. they don’t care abt ur needs and if u go to them abt being bullied they do absolutely nothing. student support does literally nothing idek why it’s there. most teachers teach so badly and then complain when u get low grades. there is constant drama circulating abt teschers at the school. and there is a massive vaping problem. only good things worth mentioning are some teachers r rlly nice, there’s lots of good facilities for all sorts of subjects and the canteen food is good.

Let us watch the world cup

One person was being naughty, therefore they ban the whole school from watching the world cup. The world cup happens once every four years, and they ban us from it

Drama

Don’t take drama here, especially if you’re ND

I’ve gone through the mainstream school and am now six months away from finishing my A-Levels in the Sixth Form. For the most part, this is a pretty good school to go to. There are very nice teachers here that can really make your day

But, if you’re neurodivergent or considering taking drama, I’d advise you to reconsider coming here

I took GCSE and A Level drama here and the drama facilities at Taverham consist of a single small room filled with boxes. The drama teacher is a very excitable and charismatic woman that made learning with her a genuinely fun experience, but unfortunately her drama doesn’t stay in the classroom. She ended up not showing up to our class for months and thus we never got our work completed, which put a lot of stress and anxiety on the class as it was our GCSE year. That was also the year COVID struck and we had no work to show for our two years of lessons

This lead me to be very out of my depth in A Level classes. Many students didn’t take drama or come to Taverham at all because they don’t advertise that drama is an option at A Level. In reality, they send their students to Hellesdon High School to learn with their class. The head of Sixth Form books the cabs to and from the two schools, as well as having us collected and returned home at the start and end of the day when appropriate. In the year and three months that I’ve been taking these cabs, I can no longer count on both hands how many times I’ve had an issue with this transport, including three times in my first week in Sixth Form, when I was in a new place on my own and already nervous. Nothing is communicated to me even when I’ve specifically asked about these things on certain occasions such as exam weeks. There have been times when a cab has been late, or a collection time has been changed without my knowledge, or even times when the cab has not shown up at all. I have also been dropped off at the wrong places such as different schools on numerous occasions and the other week I had to wait an hour and a half outdoors in the dark for my cab to arrive. I am autistic and epileptic and my parents have been terrified of the potential consequences of these poor arrangements and communications what with my disabilities. If you want to take drama, this is not the school for it, especially if you’re a neurodivergent like me

Sixth Form Shambles

My friend Adam once ate a sock while we were sat in music class, he has done this on several occasions. Quite frankly I am appalled by the handling of this situation, with him only receiving a one week roast dinner ban. It is ridiculous how low the standards at this school are. A certain head of sixth form has been seen dressing up as the head teacher, which is quite frankly unprofessional. The office lady likes to inappropriately bend over at the printer, which make me feel uncomfortable, but often leaves star stuck at the size of her dump truck. There has been the formation of a cult in the sixth form area, known as 'spoonianityism' which is, to put it plainly, inappropriate and childish. They often encourage me to bring in my favourite spoon to show the class, which is offensive as I have no arms, thus I can't use a spoon! I have to write this using only my tongue! A certain student likes to impersonate Elton John, placing on her glasses and screaming the lyrics to 'Rocket Man' at the top of her lungs, I think that children like this, with special needs, need to be highlighted and given the appropriate support.

Not Great

Mediocre school if you are neurotypical and smart. Shit if you arent, there is little to no support for children with mental health issues or condtions such as dyslexia or adhd. Alot of the teachers arent enthusiastic aboit teaching and ive spent most of my gcse years teaching myself the material.

Honest opinion

If i'm totally honest Taverham is a good school for your child's education, MOST teachers are very helpful with work and understanding a certain task. The schools approach to bullying is absolutely terrible, kids will get things shouted at them in class and almost all teachers won't bat an eyelid, although the education is good in the end they only really care about how you represent the school and not to be yourself if it goes against the schools rules. Overall a decent school but lots of aspects could/need to be improved.

Definitely recommend

Honestly such a good school. Can’t think of a bad thing to say! The staff are great, the environment is lovely. At the end of the day, it is a school and there are going to be people who are rude and disruptive, but you will get that anywhere you go. I had such a good experience there and can’t imagine having been anywhere else.
