Students receive detention for needing the toilet before class!
If your child needs the toilet in-between lessons and is 30secs late to the next class, the teacher will impose a C1 (30 mins) detention. If the child attempts to defend him/herself, this is regarded as talk back and the teacher hands out a C2 (1 hour detention). A draconian leadership at this school which urgently needs review by Ofsted or the DfE.
The majority of teachers do not get along well with the students at all and there are a load of troubled kids because of this. There are fights almost every fortnight and have a week of isolation. Close to 1000 kids are in the school leading to overcrowded corridors taking ages to get from lesson to lesson every hour and the detention system is extremely over used. You have a C1(30 minute detention) a C2. (half hour detention) and a C3 (2 hour detention) which teachers abuse.
i go here right now and the school is unsupportive of people’s needs and says they sweat the small things like ties, uniform and homework while things like fights, racism and homophobia go under the radar and don’t get sorted. most of the teachers (especially SLT) don’t care about students and don’t care about what their going through as long as they walk on the left side of the corridor and don’t turn around in line.
Fantastic school. The teachers are supportive and very understanding with how to teach the children to their abilities. My child has superb support and I am glad that the has this wonderful school .
Everyone has their own experience of a school, good ir less good. My child experienced a lot of bullying and consequent anxiety here. It's a probably a good school if you are very academic and in the top sets but my child's peers were often unpleasant, there is a lot of cyber bullying and a need for more kindness and respect.
I left tommies in YR8, during my 2 years there I have seen about 17 fights. The kids are unruly and walk all over the teachers, students throw water all over everyone and the teachers being included and all they get is a hour detention and maybe a day is isolation depending on your background or race or whether you're "troubled". The cameras do not work and probably don't planned on being fixed, the PE equipment is literally barely useable anymore and the machinery is basically a safety hazard. I'm so glad I left this school, I'm now actually able to sit in a classroom and listen without the teacher having to stop due to interruption from students literally every 2-5 minutes. I don't recommend you send your child here unless they are able to be a little h o e in order to get special treatment from the teachers and probably suck them off in the toilets, as most students are having sex in the stalls and get pregnant by 14, and most nudes get baited so don't send them girls, all the boys want are sex and trust me being a virgin in this school is such an accomplishment. They know this is all going on, the nurse might as well give condoms to the kids to avoid pregnancy, its the safest bet because they never gonna stop f u c k in g, literally. Also, all the kids vape behind the bike shed and the bathrooms so you'll probably need to send your child with a gas mask.
I wrote a very long review a week or so ago but lost it annoyingly and this school isn’t worth my time to write another one. Basically, you absolutely should not send your child here, I attended from Y7-8 and did not feel safe, did not receive a good quality education on the whole and thoroughly despised being there. Walking out on my last day for a new life in Devon was the most amazing feeling, never looking back! There were a few really lovely teachers, I should mention, but these were a complete minority and almost all teachers were walked all over by students - a lack of respect was the core issue here.
If you want a good education in this area, you either need to be smart enough and able to put enough work in to go to a King Edwards grammar school or, if you are a girl, you could go to St Paul’s and have your mental health completely ruined. Otherwise, you really are out of good options with Tommies being the best of a bad bunch (note my other options were Colmers and Waseley).
It’s an okay school I mean I’ve been her for 4 years and it’s not even that bad we get taught well and the food is great the only thing I will say is they are way too strict on the uniform and the corridors are really small also the spend money on ridiculous things such as tables with the school logo and house groups.I think they should spend the money on more sustainable equipment eg. Books. Back to positive I believe there is many opportunities here and I really do think that they want the best for use
the school is fine and we get taught but i personally think they care more about the colour of your coat or hair or if you have earrings in then actually paying attention to the children’s safety and mental health
The teachers are too strict, they defy your basic human rights and they care more about how you look than how safe you are and how well you learn! Numerous children have been ran over by motor vehicles yet the school persists to prohibit any coats that are not the colour black. This is a health and safety hazard which will claim a life eventually. The management have been told about this issue multiple times by parents and other members of staff but they still fail to change things so the problem persists. Another issue is the verbal abuse the students receive from members of staff. On numerous occasions have students been called “stupid” “idiotic” and “dumb”. The school needs urgent change, care and attention but they will not listen as it is a strict dictatorship in place where no students, parents or members of staff who are not management have a say in what happens whatsoever. Whatever you say to the school will get ignored and I can almost guarantee that this review would not be read by the school as they have coats to be inspecting and no time can be spared to read this review. They say they are teaching the students to be better people but all they are doing is intimidating, manipulating and scaring the students into behaving to the point there are assemblies called re-orientation assemblies where you are taught to behave and listen to the supreme leader or principal as he is also known. Please DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE.
