This place sucks, but there's not really anywhere else to go
I go to this school and on my 4th year, within the like 3 weeks i've been here since summer break I have just been hit with so much homework and schoolwork to the point where i've stopped seeing people I like and the thought of suicide just sits in the back of my head. It is so demoralising. What also doesn't help is at the start of every year they remind you of how replacable you are with that stupid "you will lose your seat at St James" assembly. How do you even begin to spread a message about community and positivity when you are just moving lesson to lesson being monolouged by half the staff because they are either just reading off a slideshow, strict as hell or substituting for someone who can't be asked to show up (most of the time it's a combination of the 3) while also being told if you screw up then "It's fine, there's 50 people waiting for that seat of yours". To give some credit though, there are some amazing teachers at the school but as if that makes up for ruining my social life.
This school is horrible kids have been calling me fat and ugly and telling me to kill myself and the school doesn't even care and I was in reset and I admit I did get 2 reminders because one was for walking out but the second one was just so silly I was wearing a grey hoodie and he gave me a reminder for it and didn't even give me a warning abt it and my 3rd reminder was because some yr 8/10 were making fun of me IN FONT OF A TEACHER and I said "sir have u seen what there doing" and he just gave me a look and went back looking to his computer and I walked out and said "I've had enough of this school" so if anyone reads this I recommend not sending ur child to this school this school is just so disappointing they say it has change but I honestly don't this it has so just I recommend u to put ur child in a different school because I have and still am getting bullied now
The school is very strict about uniform and missing equipment so if you turn up without a ruler or pencil because it broke, you are getting a BP even if it wasn't needed in that particular lesson. However, students could get bullied or shouted at by another student and the teachers will turn a blind eye. When students said they didn't feel safe, instead of cracking down on bullying and forms of discrimination, it was decided that closing the toilets to students during lesson was how to make the school safer. Teachers that stand outside during break are oblivious to students fighting but send them to refocus if they go near a bush.
St James is an alright school. It has many options for GCSE options such as Statistics ranging to Photography. However, every Wednesday we are forced to do an hour and a half of activites that we don't really get a say in. The toilets are absolutely disgusting. The classes are rarely peaceful. One time during Spanish, a person tried climbing out the window. They also do nothing about bullying, nor care about our mental health. They'd rather us 'just get on with it' because they 'can't be asked to' help us get better.
teachers give you bps for nothing i got 1 bp because i gave a highlighter to another student which is a kind thin to do and the teacher says i was rude when she seemed like she shouted at me with a tone and i said "what did i do why are you shouting at me" in a normal voice tone SHOCKING
Clearly a school that has serious continuity issues, very poor and ineffective response to bullying and keeping the children feeling safe in their environment. School canteen protocol and accessibility is poor. The school lacks proper planning with regards to alot of issues, highlighting the fact that the school is very overwhelmed. Lacking continuity in the enforcement of rules between classes and year groups. Often the teachers teach their own opinions on alot of subjects, rather than fact. Bureaucratic policies which are barely logical or reasonable. Not a school i would recommend.
