I went here several years ago but still find myself awake for hours some nights thinking of how bad it was, which is why I felt like I had to leave a review to tell people don't go here & consider another school instead, especially if you're not neurotypical. Teachers made it known that they didn't like me when I did nothing wrong other than struggle socially which isn't my fault, the amount of homework was not normal, bullying was ignored/ overlooked, there was no real 'support' in place unless you had a mental breakdown & were sent to a separate smaller building I can't remember the name of. No 11-14 year old should ever have to feel the amount of anxiety I dealt with whilst attending & I've had to block most of it out my mind, I couldn't talk anymore because of the stress. Don't have anything positive to leave from my experience
If you want your child to start counting down the days until they Finnish for the next five years, this school is perfect. From the minute I started this school I have wanted to leave, never in my life would I wish this school experience on anyone. Where do I even start.
Well first of all I want to say the amount of actual subject teachers teaching at this school is close to nil. throughout school I have been placed in the foundation classes and to what I have noticed about these classes is that they give them the worst teachers. Why do they do this? You may ask. Well let me answer it for you. This school may say they “strive for excellence” when all they really strive for is for higher grades to stay high and lower grades to stay mediocre. 4 out of my 5 years I was given the most utterly useless science teachers I have ever seen: A chemistry teacher who would rather talk about anything but the syllabus, multiple biology teachers and all but one where terrible (short side note: the biology teacher which actually was able to teach was pushed out of the school because she requested a single day off each week , and was willing to have part time wages, so she could spend more time with her infant daughter.) and finally 3 physics teachers, one who was too emotional to actually teach and told us all we are going to fail, a second who just couldn’t teach and left after 3 weeks of teaching to do something else as “teaching wasn’t for her”. In my mocks I was only one of the handful of students which did the combined foundation science who managed to scrape a pass as the teaching conditions for the foundation groups were appalling. Another point in which I would like to make is the attitude towards the students given by staff. Yes I am a child but that doesn’t mean I don’t deserve respect. One break time a member of senior leadership came and told us that she couldn’t wait for us to open our results and to see that we had all failed for her own entertainment, so she could quote “laugh” at us, which she followed by “don’t come crawling to me crying”. Another experience which I have had is quite a personal one, which needs to be addressed. I’m year 7, which at this point in time I am a 12 year old girl, I was experiencing an asthma attack which quickly turned into a mix of an attack and a panic attack when I had to return to my maths lesson from the cottage (a place for “student support” which is totally untrue but I will get onto that later) when returning the the class room my teacher was notified that I am just on the come down of the attack and that I still have some difficulty breathing. As soon as the teacher assisting me had left I sat down in my seat and felt eyes on me immediately, which made me a bit panicked as I knew I was breathing loudly and was self conscious. These eyes were from the teacher herself who told me to get out of the class room because I was disrupting the learning. After being left outside for five minutes the teacher comes out and tells me i am faking the attack as she couldn’t hear me breathing load from inside the classroom, I mean surely not if the door is closed?!, and started to get louder when shouting this obviously made my condition worse which alarmed a second teacher walking past who practically had to save me from the idiot of a teacher who clearly shouldn’t be around children. My mam obviously complained and was told that surely the teacher didn’t mean it. Which is utterly ridiculous. Moving on to a topic I previously touched on: the schools “support” system. Now support for children nationally is appalling in the first place but that’s not what I’m here to talk about. If you think your child will receive any form of useful support at this school you are highly mistaken. Now in my earlier years I did struggle slightly with mental health which just made my school like a hell of a lot harder, but don’t worry! your child will. Be given something a cottage pass if they are deemed fit. Wow so useful! Hats off to the school for letting the children have a mental break! is what you may be thinking. However if you are ever to use this pass you are quite frankly laughed at by people In your class and practically given the same treatment in the cottage or the “heaven” as it’s called now. If you are to use this pass and go to the Sydney support you are questioned on why you are there and if you dare ask for more than two minutes you are told to stop being silly and to go back to your lesson. This backwards school has no interest in your child at all, all they want is your child’s uniform to be up to standard and for your child to have zero personality. Now school is supposed to be a place where your child is safe right? Wrong if you send them here. A student in my year entered school with an 8 inch kitchen knife with a list of people she wanted to kill. Sounds very safe! and this student was only removed from school and sent to another for a week and then allowed back in to the school?! well done st Anthony’s!! If you are still considering sending your child to this school we’re standards are dug six feet under the ground after this I would highly consider you think again as this school is utterly disgraceful and shouldn’t be open to this day.
+ St Anthony's Girls' Catholic A...
if you want your children to suffer then by all means send them here to this awful school. when i applied for this school 5 years ago i was told that it was an opportunity for an outstanding education yet through my own time here i have found that this statement is nothing but insincere and cynical.
Cynical is the best word i can think to describe this school, only bothered about their own reputation through making students lives a living hell. I was aiming for a grade 8 in maths even after having gone through two years of online school teaching myself, when i was able to attend in person school again i was looking forward to being able to work with an actual maths teacher. After about 4 months of year 10 my maths teacher left (this by no means was the issue i had), after my teacher left st anthony's failed to give us an acceptable replacement teacher leaving us with cover teachers who specialised in other subjects - this is during our GCSE yearsand after us already missing two years of school due to covid - as a top set class we thought that this would only be temporary however it wasn't until about 4 months before our GCSEs that we got an actual maths teacher who had been hired at this school for years. Following the fact, we were relieved that we were finally going to have a chance at passing our exams only to learn that this new teacher cared more about our uniform and the way that our school books were set out rather than our education, our teacher failed to teach us almost half of the syllabus meaning that we didn't know a great portion of what could potentially come up - unfortunately this did happen and there was a section on our GCSE paper that we hadn't been taught, there is only a certain amount as to how far teaching yourself can get you especially in a subject such as maths.
Aside from this monstrosity of organization, this school failed to give us a leavers day after the years before us had days dedicated to them with teachers decorating the sports hall, getting ice cream, and being given leavers hoodies - we got nothing, after our final physics exam as a year group we decided to do shirt signing on the terrace after being told that we weren't allowed to do it in school like other years before us. Whilst doing this, teachers came out of the gates telling us that the police had been called and that if we continued to sign shirts that we would have our prom tickets provoked. we were signing leavers shirts and weren't even in the premises of this school. the staff think that they are god. they think that they can dictate who and what we are. they put up a facade 'educating us on important matters' and hanging up signs about equality and kindness when the school itself go against this. hypocrites the lot of them. they told all the parents that they loved us as a year group only on our last couple of days they told us that they couldn't wait for us to leave and that we are no longer welcome aspart of the school family. at break time one day a member of senior leadership came in and told us that she couldn't wait for us to fail our GCSEs and that she would laugh at us crying when we opened our failing results in august. we were laughing and talking at break time. the one time where immense stress isn't forced upon us. utter nonsense. so as i said by all means send your kids as the english department outstanding but every other aspect of the school is failing, if your children go here they will suffer and probably come home crying over things the malicious egotistical staff have said to them, yours a former student of this hell hole.
The school is not appealing to me any longer when it comes to teacher's behaviour against students. I ve got a daughter in year7 they are seriously picking on. I spoke to the year leader about it and told me is not one teacher that is against the behaviour of my daughter. I am also a teacher myself I know what they all say at the staffroom when they gather together. They will all speak about a child and then gang up against that child. The school suppose to be a Christian school but the reverse in the case . They discriminate against other ethnic groups and their policy does not suit other ethnicity. I am highly disappointed. My daughter use to like school but now scared of going to school. Though I have reported to the year leader but their are other parents that are afraid of speaking up.
Great for good gcse results, terrible for everything else. Teachers have obvious favourites and students aren't treated equally. I was bullied during younger years with no help whatsoever. Teased multiple times in actual lessons and nothing was done to help. Most of the students here are constantly under pressure and have serious anxiety issues
It's great for education however they have clear favouritism and don't do anything or they just dismis anything that could really harm their image. They are really strict on uniform and will give out codes (writing out the full code of behaviour) for some of the most minor incidents. I've had no problems with the support system but I do know alot of people who have had problems. The office is pretty bad, they claim to be trained in first aid but they don't do it properly and they will refuse to send unwell pupils home until they're either on the floor or vomiting in front of them, this doesn't happen to everyone but it's happened enough for it to be a cause for concern. Aside from those problems it's nice enough.
The school has no regard for students mental health, the teachers definitely play favourites and don’t consider other students. The school days are longer than any other school days so that other schools don’t ‘clash’ with the girls, how else are they supposed to meet friends and create a social life outside of school? Finally, the amount of food made is simply not enough as there are always girls not receiving what they are supposed to have, which is not good enough.
this school is absolutely diabolical, the people here are so devious. the teachers are despicable and i got a rubber thrown off my head by some old tart. someone also threatened to be “naughty” to me and i am still disturbed to this day
Please help yourself out and don’t go here. The mental health support is non existent, and it is a toxic, bullying environment. Teachers leave constantly and food always runs out. Lots of racism and transphobia, and subtle ableism. Disgusting place for any child and it was impossible for parents to communicate with teachers if issues arose.
Came out with great outcomes for GCSES, however encountered many problems with teacher and pupils as many incidents were either not fixed or diminished in order to keep the school reputation in check. The school is overall very strict especially on uniform and in terms of appearance, teachers will have you in detentions for minor incidents. Grading is an issue I had within the school, some teachers are very stingy when it comes to marking, but when it comes the actual exam i got marked greatly more than what they were marking. Students on the other hand there is a great class divide in year groups where many feel that they are greater than other and in result will feel the need to do as they please, bullying is rare however many incidents occur occasionally and once again teachers will rarely do anything about it. Student support is awful, when it comes to mental health, you’ll find grades are more important.
Good education but shocking student support. I told a staff member of how I’d felt miserable for years without getting any help - even suggesting I felt suicidal and all that it ended up in was an email to my form tutor. Again, I had expressed my upset very obviously to two other members of staff on a school trip after being upset by other girls and nothing was done. Overall, the standard of education is very high but it is definitely a strict school and nothing gets by SLT. Good results but some very backward thinking goes on (eg. a ‘no marks’ policy on work where we cannot be graded even if we specifically request this) and there is a pressure, I feel, to succeed.
