From what I've heard from other schools this school is one of the better ones in the area academically, whilst the facilities aren't amazing the work is challenging quite a lot of the time and the teachers support you while you do this. Support for mental health and that isn't great and a lot of focus is on upholding the school reputation, but overall it's pretty decent for an all girls grammar school.
If I could give a zero I would.
Do not send your children to this school if they are neurodiverse, the school have proven to have very little understanding of these conditions. You have to push and push to get any provision or outside intervention such as Ed Psych, the school does not want to part with the funding. They have a blame the child not the condition culture.
From my experience my child was blamed for not concentrating, being disorganised, forgetful etc when they have a clinical diagnosis that these symptoms are the main feature of.
The school would clearly not blame a physically disabled child for not being able to climb a flight of stairs - they would make reasonable adjustments so why blame kids that have other conditions that impair their functioning and make it SO difficult to get them help? One particular male teacher was ignorant and arrogant in meetings and on one occasion I had to repeatedly tell him to stop talking over me and interrupting me. I dread to think how he interacts with children with neuro needs.
The school goes from A-Z in an instant with suspicions about pupils and refer to other agencies with no evidence other than 3rd party heresay. Be very careful if your kids have any views other than liberal or they will be made to feel like outcasts.
Dreadful school, my other child is going elsewhere.
Terrible at dealing with mental health. Teaching is sub-par at best. Students are overworked for no apparent reason other than to make life difficult. Treated with absolutely no respect, as if you aren't a real person. The worst school I've ever had the displeasure of attending.
it is genuinely horrendous. the teaching style is brutal and the some of the teachers are really bad at teaching, so they rely on ‘naturally smart’ students to bolster their grades. the uniform rules are so heavily enforced it’s ridiculous. i was allowed to be bullied and shunned for being gay, and the treatment of mental health is horrendous. they should have put me and many of my fellow students in therapy and neglected our entire year. that school will suck you of your sanity and churns out half a bunch of socially inbred middle class snobs and half a bunch of ‘dumb’ rebellious mentally ill kids each year.
Yeah I agree about the mental health stuff. I had lots of difficulties at this school, and tried to get support multiple times. There was no support. If the teachers don’t like you, or see you as a “problem student”, even if you get good grades, you’ll have a very difficult time.
Honestly, the mood there is just depressing, the indoor and outdoor spaces are depressing - If you’re struggling with mental health, it’s a horrible school, and if you aren’t already, you will be!
There’s no gender neutral bathrooms, to my knowledge. Transgender students are treated as a problem, at least in the lower school, though I’m not sure about in the Sixth Form. However, at least for the area, it’s pretty good to be LGBT here.
I have left now but i can tell you for sure just because it’s a high school doesn’t mean it’s any good. You get treated like children and it isn’t the best teaching either. Look elsewhere.
Let me just say if you are looking for a place to go where you are treated as a mature person you would be better at the local rubbish dump, going here has been like pre-school all over again, worst mistake of my life so far
As many of the reviews say, the school is very lackluster with mental health. I thought I had ADHD and tried to talk about it with some teachers, and my head of year told me there was absolutely nothing wrong with me and that it was probably just a temporary thing. I have evidence of symptoms since primary school but they didn't seem to care. I asked if they had a specialised department I could talk to and they said they didn't. A few months and conversations with actual professionals later I told the head of year about the progress with the doctors and they said they'd pass it on to the specialised department they "didn't have" last month. They could not care less about your mental health unless you get incredibly lucky with who your head of year is.
this school gives you to much workload you cannot cope. if you understand the work then sure it’s okay. Although you can get behind so easily as we get homework 3 times a day. Also being in an all girls school isn’t good for you mental health. They seem to also care more about hair, makeup and uniform more than you and your mental health. i’ve seen in some other reviews in the lack of support and i can say that’s absolutely correct, when you ask for help they seem to do nothing. This school is corrupt and only cares about what it looks like.
The school generally cares more about your hair colour and how many earrings you have in rather than your mental health and how you are coping. You can ask for help multiple times and they say they are here to support you, yet they do nothing when you ask for help and support. While they do have regular assemblies and discussions on these types of problems, they believe that by watching a PowerPoint and filling out a work sheet, all your problems will go away
Personally, I think they don't take into consideration mental health as much as they say they do. They do countless surveys but never follow up after and this makes you feel like they don't care. The teachers are generally really good, some seem to show favouritism towards students however they make the minority. The school is generally very accepting of LBGTQ+ students, which is very good.
Personally, I love the school. I spent all of my school life there including sixth form and you get out of it what you put in. I saw another review regarding how there is no support for mental health. There is, you just have to ask for it. There are over 1000 students so if you don’t ask for it, they won’t be able to notice how every student acts. My support system was great and it came from just talking to my form tutor first. The workload isn’t bad and other than bathrooms and faulty heaters/fans, the maintenance is okay.
They say they care about mental health but end up acting like they live in the victorian era. They care more about your uniform and you not using your phone than they do about how you feel
It’s bad, it’s really demotivating and draining and being with only girls who are all emotional makes your mental health bad. The actual school building is nice and clean and there’s lots to do but there’s 3 pieces of homework a day which never gives us a break.
