This school is absolutely awful. The teachers are nasty, and some are outright bullies. Tracy Airoll, the headteacher, only cares about herself and how good she looks trying to push the school to a "good" rating, with no concern for the students' well-being. But the worst of them all is Karen Harrod. Karen is a truly horrible woman—vile, rude, and a complete bully. It’s well-known that everything can be going smoothly, but the moment Karen steps in, it all goes completely tips up. She’s so bad that even other teachers have reported her for bullying, yet somehow she’s still there, wreaking havoc on the school. I truly pray she gets what she deserves.

Yes, the student behavior is bad, which doesn’t help, but with teachers like Karen Harrod around, it’s no wonder. To make matters worse, many of these teachers know each other personally, and all their husbands are, of course, members of the senior leadership team (SLT). Even the SENCO’s husband is a deputy head! They’ve formed a whole tribe, dismissing anyone who joins and tries to fix the ridiculous things going on here. Not once during my time at this school did I have a classroom teacher who stayed the whole time; teachers kept leaving, which says a lot about the environment. Funny how they're all still here, despite contributing to the school's "inadequate" Ofsted rating.

Don’t get me wrong, there are a small number of staff who do care and understand the challenges, but of course, they have no power. Sadly, this review is the truth, and oh, how I wish I could go back in time to avoid ever having attended this place. Luckily, without any consistent teachers and a countless number of supply teachers, I passed all my GCSEs. Avoid this place if you care about your child’s education and mental health.

Disappointing

My experience at this school isn't great at all I wouldn't recommend sending your children here come September, there is a lack of communication between staff and parents, there is favouritism for some pupils overall disappointing.

GET MR L BACK

my experiences at southchurch high school have been somewhat weird, but I need to get my head master to try and persuade Mr Latter to come back to our school because he was my favourite teacher and helped me with my mental health a LOT.

My experience at this school was okay. I went through bullying (which was racism) and this was not dealt with appropriately or quick enough which made me feel unsure about how the teachers valued every student differently. There was not much to do at break and lunch and we were limited to such a small area inside and outside at those times.

My time at Southchurch

My time here hadn’t been the best, bullied since year seven. I met great friends however, but they turned against me through some of the years. I met great teachers who accepted me as well as some friends who stayed for life. This school has a lot of work needed, especially for Pride(LGBTQ+) as we who are part of the community only GET a WEEK of being ourselves. We need more than a week, two at least. Or two and a half? At least tell us when we can be ourselves. It’s okay for straight couples to kiss and that but for us it isn’t until that week. We need more freedom in the school.
