My daughters went there and I found that they did much better academically as a result of it. There was pressure to succeed but did not feel it was overwhelming to the extent that it impacted on their emotional wellbeing and mental health. Would definitely recommend this school.
Poor. Spent 5 years there and hated it. Found they put lots of pressure on doing well but are not actually very helpful, claimed to be an engineering academy but so few people did engineering in the higher years there was almost no point and the facilities weren't very good. I hated everything about it; the subjects, what was taught/curriculum, how it was taught, the rules, the general life around school. My mental health plummeted because I hated it so much and because it was such a big part of my life it spread to me hating everything else too, I felt incredibly negative about school and life as a whole and dreaded going everyday. School is apparently a place to grow and develop with others but I never felt so alone and stunted. I am much happier to be working 6 days a week than I ever was at sghs all through years 7 - 11, couldn't wait to get out of there.
The only redeeming quality was its reputation which is not as good as it used to be.
The school is good but puts a lot of pressure on you to do well and it can be extremely stressful. Also the school might be an ‘engineering’ school but it doesn’t have the best facilities for that subject anymore, it’s better at providing education for sciences. If you like PE I don’t recommend this school as they don’t have very good resources for that and most lessons are taken at sandylands which is separate from the school and it takes like half the lesson time up getting there and back so isn’t very efficient. Overall the school is decent and if I went back I would still choose it over other options.
I think that the school is fairly good but i would say for some people e.g. people with mental health problems and/or disabilities, it could not be the most accommodating. Another thing is the school uniform (which in my opinion we should not have) is not the greatest as many students wear their skirts way to short and for pe we have to wear extremely short scorts or really annoying jogger I also think that there should be shorts in both the pe kit and normal uniform. But it is ok for learning and has many extracurricular activities. And i dont know if its just me but i feel like the way some of the systems are it is unfair. And also there have been some sexual assault but i dont know much on that so i wont mention much about it.
Amazing if you want good grades, can sometimes be friendship issues because of drama in an all girls school. The teaching and education is amazing and there is so many extra curricular activities for your child to do. This school is known for achieving an amazing average in GCSE and A Level exams. 5/5 I recommend. Give your child a good education at Skipton Girls high school!
