HORRENDOUS

If you’re looking for a mentally destroying and abusive environment for your child send them to skinners Kent academy!! Honestly I don’t even know where to start with this school but basically they when I was there the most awful staff members are there.I have to admit some are amazing and so kind but others like miss Knowles, mrs weller , miss marshal , mr skehan , miss fidge , miss widdison ,miss ribbons opara, miss musariri and others will make your lives miserable I promise you .I have had my nights sobbing of what they have said to me sometimes. Not just that they will constantly target you and make you feel unsafe and uncomfortable in their presence. I assure you DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE THESE PEOPLE WILL MENTALLY DRAIN YOUR KIDS AND RUIN THEIR SCHOOL YEARS!! YOU WILL NOT GET THE MARKS YOU WANT FOR GSCE BECAUSE OF WHAT THESE DISGUSTING MEMBERS IF STAFF HAVE SCREWED WITH THE MINDS OF THESE YOUNG KIDS!!!! also they have the most horrid rules like don’t wear jewelry but when I see a boy wearing chains and then a girl wearing simple studs they get absolutely mental on them it’s just so sexist!!!

Very good

We are very pleased with the school. My daughter, who struggled at primary school, is now excelling in all subjects thanks to the quality and dedication of the teachers.

Badly managed, wrong attitudes

As a parent, my job is to keep my son engaged with education. With SKA, I feel its a daily fight. He's a good kid, he tries hard, he's not top set. We are hounded by the ridiculous discipline policy and punitive rules applied by a school that seems to be focused on managing the worst case, but doing very little to encourage, grow and educate its pupils. The senior leadership team should take a look at what its values are, and really question if its setting the right tone.

Bootcamp for vile kids

If you have a decent, well-behaved child who wants to learn, do not send them to SKA. If they do end up there get them a discreet bodycam-they will need it. Below top set the behaviour gets worse and worse. My daughter saw 19 of her teachers leave. Some never taught again. By the end of year 9, 4 maths and 5 science teachers had quit. Most cited the appalling behaviour of the pupils and bullying by the Academy. She witnessed a teacher standing on a chair saying “I don’t give a f*ck, I am leaving today”
The main problem with the school is the pupils. To quote a teacher at SKA. “If 1/3 of the children go to Grammar School and 2 church schools take those who will do anything to avoid SKA, then what is left is a concentrated pool of the worst kids. There are a lot who don’t want to learn and don’t want anybody else to learn either. Hardly any stay on after year 11. Many of her friends went to Hillview, Bennett. St Gregory or even Hugh Christie for 6th form instead. Anywhere but SKA.
The Academy’s approach to the problem is boot camp discipline, shouting at the pupils, building up dossiers on the worst to expel them and constant enforcement of the uncomfortable, totally impractical black uniform regardless of the temperature. Expect to receive dictatorial emails every week written by a Dalek. Yet the school did nothing when she was pushed off her bike in front of a van on Pembury Rd coming home from school.
After years of putting up with bullying, eating her lunch in a toilet cubicle where she felt safer, finding her bike vandalised, her PE kit and other items stolen she was glad when Covid struck. At least she could stay at home.
The problems did not end when she left at 16. She still runs into ex pupils and puts up with casual insults. She worries about meeting anybody new and clams up in case they are like the kids at school. She won’t go into Tunbridge Wells town centre.
The final insult was the cyber-attack on the Academy. After 5 years of having rules and orders barked at us by email, the school was hacked and lost all her reports. She could not show any of them to her college. Worse we have been bombarded with scam emails and phone calls from fraudsters. They have attempted to access our bank accounts. Well done SKA. You are only young once, our daughter spent her teenage years wishing she was at another school. We sent our younger daughter to Hillview.

It’s an interesting experience

Ska definitely got me the grades I needed to move onto a better school and for that I cannot fault it. Their SEN (special educational needs) department was my favourite all of the ladies who work their were wonderful. They had a few stand out amazing teachers in the school (most of which have now left) but also overall the students were really rude, annoying and ignorant. There’s no escaping the truth there was bullying and also a lot of drug use (which to their credit they have got sniffer dogs in to try and stop this). I mean really it’s the typical secondary school experience just hidden within amazing facilities. Going to that school is definitely not something I’m going to boast about but I guess it served it’s purpose.
