All they care about is attendance numbers to make the school good even if your mental health is rockbottom. In their mind taking a bath will fix depression.

Screenshotted pictures of students social media to use in a leavers powerpoint without consent.

Don’t properly take revision seriously. One teacher 3 lessons before the final exam used the whole lessons to laugh and show optical illusions he had made rather than teaching or letting people study.

Think about it

Because you should wear a diaper to school so you don't miss learning because they go to the toilet to not do work for head Techer

DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN GO HERE

I get bullied 24/7 and the work the teachers give us make no sense. The teachers are rude and are just setting us up to be exactly the same with the uniform. I would not recommend your children going here.

My review of Sir john leman high school

i went to this school from year 7 to year 9 and left due to being treated differently by certain teachers. I was harassed with actions such as having my eyelashes pulled by a teacher because i was accused of wearing fake ones (which i wasn’t), another was having my face wiped by a member of staff who knew i was allergic to the johnson’s wipes she was using because i was wearing concealer under my eyes (nothing else) due to my insecurity about my dark circles. I was told i would fail by multiple teachers and told by one teacher in particular that talking to me is like talking to a “brick wall” because of how “stupid” i was. Lastly i’m from liverpool and a few teachers said that they “couldn’t understand” me due to my “improper” way of talking.

year 9

bad for mental health!!

This school is probably the WORST. They do absolutely nothing for mental health. All they did was pull me out of lesson and asked how i was, i said “fine” but they NEVER even tried to really figure out what’s going on, even though so many people told them. When i was having a panic they just said “you’re being dramatic” They expect you to sit in a cold classroom with only your blazer and a thin school jumper and refuse to turn on the heating. And we can’t wear jumpers because they’re “not uniform” All the teachers are patronising and care more about your skirt length the. your mental state. When the offsted comes their attitude changes up and they see us like people. All the other times we are just grades to them. They have nothing out in place to help students with behaviour issues. do not send your child to this school

Great School with lovely staff

All of the teachers I had were always helpful and were willing to go above and beyond to help students.

Awful school no mental health support

Intimidating Head Teacher there every morning to make sure pupils have a bad day, love chasing pupils around with walkie talkie. horrible to watch so so sad in this day and age. Really not acceptable for mental wellbeing of children.

Dehumanising and worst experience of my life

This school is disgusting and a hellish environment. The mental illness I got from that school and the ones that where heightened where awful all I can do now is hope over time I will get over what I can only call trauma. I went to the school for five years a begged my parents to transfer me multiple times to no success. The school truly don’t care for there students as human beings but simply as grades they want to try to boost as much as they can for there reputation. The lack of empathy from the staff when you come to them about personal issues is disgusting and when told about any bullying incident they either ignore it or try to say that they are to busy to deal with “petty arguments”. They refuse to allow students to go to the toilet during 100 minute lessons or fill up your water bottle which is a violation of two human rights. They can’t tolerate any criticism what do ever they will simply consequence you for being “disobedient” which is not how anyone should deal with criticism let alone an environment which is supposed to be raising young and healthy minds and helping them find themselves. I also witnessed multiple incidences of discriminatory behaviour like transphobia. As well as the school hired a pedophile whilst being under investigation for inappropriate behaviour with minors and after he was convicted of being a pedophile every student was given a PowerPoint which explained we couldn’t talk about what happened and if we did there would be consequences despite it being in our legal rights to discuss it as it’s a closed case. The school is a hellish environment and is so patronising and dehumanising. Please if you care about you students don’t send them to this outraged excuses for a school.

Awful

If I could give this school a 0 rating I would. I left sir john leman a few years ago and it has taken me 3 whole years to get over the mental trauma of it all. Children with behavioural problems are not supported at all and they are constantly picked on by staff. They simply do not care about parents opinions on how to manage their children. If you report bullying they do absolutely nothing! Each lesson is 100 minutes and during lessons you are not allowed to go to the bathroom (even while menstruating). The head teacher is a bully as well as his little sidekick (we all know who it is by now). The school isn't supportive of the children, children are patronised and constantly verbally abused. Teachers will shout so loud at the pupils that their spit goes into the pupils faces! The whole time I was there one member of staff would tell me on a daily basis that I would be nothing and that I am nothing (I am now fully qualified in Health and social care xoxo) This 'school' have no concern for your child's wellbeing, all they care for is their reputation and what Oxford has to say after their visits. While Oxford visits the teachers attitude completely changes to portray a caring environment when it is the exact opposite. If you don't want your children going through this mental torture do not send them.

Don’t actually care about students, just grades

Awful staff, so patronising and get angry over the smallest things like having 3 piercings instead of 2, obsessed with skirt length it’s creepy.
Rubbish pastoral staff, Couldn’t care less about mental health, told a girl to keep her ‘private life separate to her school life’ when she told them about her anxiety. Never felt like i could speak to them about anything even though that’s all they preach. The school is a classic example of caring more about uniform than education

Amazing quality of learning!

I have some great memories of my time at Leman - I left two years ago and am now in my final year of Sixth Form. I left with some very good grades going from a 4 to a 6 in Maths, thanks to the amazing teaching quality of the majority of staff there. As someone who has had to deal with name calling and such in Year 11, I found that it was dealt with quickly and to my satisfaction. The best departments for teaching and quality of learning are by far the Music, MFL, and RS departments - if you feel you would like to do well in these I cannot recommend Leman enough.

I have left a single star off for the quality of the facilities at Leman - being an old school I feel it could do with a revamp post-Covid, especially for the older year groups. A lot of attention has been given to the Year 7 and 8 spaces, yet the Year 11 girls toilets are somewhat run down. With regards to toilets, I feel there could be more attention given to non-binary and trans students who feel uncomfortable with a cisgendered toilet , perhaps with gender-neutral facilities.

sorry readers bad SPAG

They dont care about periods or anything if u dont have a medical card then u cant do shit (unless u have a nice teacher) keep in mind its 100 min lessons that really isnt healthy. Teachers give out detentions for being inside(u dont even have to be in lesson)having a coat/ jumper on when they themselves are bundled up in a coat, scarf, gloves etc while all windows are open. When explaining things teachers can make fun of religion and race and have no consequences even when they are reported to pupils ask them to stop. As a student I freeze all day and they dont even turn the heating on in the classrooms pretty much all the time and when they do it's at the end of the day! Online learning was so horrid, you got sent either a PowerPoint and a link with really unclear instructions or just a link to a website you didnt even have a login for and it was just not it. And the teachers get way too close for comfort and come right to your desk without a mask on and some even pick up your pen to show you what to do. The resources are so low that my class of 31 has to share 1 or 2 gluesticks unless you have your own. My social area has almost no chairs and is nowhere big enough for all my year so alot of us are forced outside. This is very unorganised sorry just writing as I think of things that need to be dealt with as I think of them.

Currupt staff

Good behaviour management and good grades. But some members of staff feel like they can bully some students and even some other staff. Some staff have felt like others have been pushing them out and one even has grounds to sue for harassment. Very corrupt system.

Disappointing

Some teachers would be discriminatory about explaining something again if you fully dont understand something, not allowed to go to the toilet unless you have a medical card which requires a medical note from the doctor, regardless of periods as well, teachers would refuse to let you leave the class room unless you had a card, so would have to sit there and just accept the utter embarrassment. During the pandemic they just set a bunch of online tasks with no clear explanations. Leaving us to attempt teaching ourselves 6 months worth of learning. Not so long ago we had to sit in a lesson completely soaked through from the rain, with all windows and doors open, refusing to let us put our jumpers on, saying because they're not school uniform, causing us to sit there and freeze and get colds, while teachers were sitting therewith big jumpers and coats on. At break and lunch in our social areas we have to have doors and windows open too, Students are not allowed to wear coats inside, teachers would force students to remove them when teachers are wearing coats themselves. Sixth formers get special treatment and just because they are not in high school anymore they get away with bullying and threats even when people have came forward and said this to the pastoral team.
