This school is not for the weak. This school is shown in an unprofessional manner and biased to children it's not shown a good performance of respect and kindness to those who require it most an example of this is when ayden Buckley gets away with everything. This school shows lack of commitment to want students to achieve there best this is shown when the teachers don't seem like they want to be there either school is a constant cycle of unhappiness which is against what they want to come across as and it's misleading.
This school is the worst do not send a child there as it will result in your child gaining mental health issues and self hatred the schools system is flawed and your child will not be greeted with friendly faces but instead bullies and teachers who treat the mental health problems as if they are a normal occurance and you should not send your child there as there way of dealing with the problems do not help they cram there busses full of students and this causes many fights so do not send you child here as they will have the worst time of there life and prefer anything but this school so I'm warning you do not send any child here
My time at Shevington High School was interesting to say the least… Reflecting on my time there I am presented with mostly negative thoughts.
Academically, personally and emotionally I feel a huge amount of resentment towards my time at Shevington.
Academically speaking, I always felt that receiving support and or guidance when struggling with certain subjects was rarely ever offered. The most teachers would do is suggest you’re moved down a set or two. I often remember being blamed or made to feel like it was my fault for my poor performance or lack of understanding when in reality nobody was doing enough to try and enlighten or help me. The odd teacher has even gone far enough to humiliate me in front of the entire class showcasing my work on the board when having an issue with my work. Instead of just talking it through with me privately.
Personally, I feel there is almost a strange power play with SOME members of staff. What I mean by this, is that they will most definitely make sure you feel or know that they are of a higher intelligence or importance than you are. Some of my interactions with staff have been some of the most dehumanising experiences of my life. But like I said, this wasn’t with everybody. In fact, there are only very few members of staff that I can think of that are genuine and treat you as an equal. The students are also no better!
During my time at Shevington, I did struggle emotionally and at first I believe they handled this as well as they could. Offering the right advice and supporting me well. After about a month or so, this treatment was flipped on it’s head completely. The ‘Pastoral’ team wasn’t always very helpful and it felt clear that they had their favourites, meaning some students would be prioritised over others. Not only that, but the pastoral team had a bad habit of shunning students or turning them away because going back to lesson was supposedly much more important. Which I partially understand, as our education is important. But it doesn’t feel good knowing that a team of people that are supposed to be there to support you with such issues aren’t exactly keen to listen.
Having it been quite a while since my departure from Shevington, I must say being out of there feels so good!
Shevington for me was the odd one out when I joined. I'm from quite far away in terms of the school and I had no one joining the school from my primary. Yet there was still a sense of familiarity, friendliness, and homeliness when at the open evening, on a guided tour with the head, and when first joining. 9/10 of the teacher are genuinely sound and the same amount have a great sense of humour and love to have a laugh. Compared to Upholland and Rainford (other schools I looked at) it was the only one that gave me the sense of safety and familiarity. The pastoral staff are also amazing and great help. I'm leaving this year but in the two and a half years I had in school and the year over the computer I have genuinely enjoyed every second at shevi
