Absolute BS school. Teachers don’t care about things such as home life, the discipline system practically makes bad kids, bullying doesn’t get dealt with etc. Both myself and my sibling were bullied throughout school there. Did they care? No. Did they try and sort it? No. We both got told to ignore it, and my sibling relied on me for protection. I wasn’t the best behaved kid for a couple years due to home life and stress, but there were a few occasions where things other kids did were blamed on me, and I was kicked out of the class as soon as I walked in on more than one occasion. Not for doing anything, just teachers couldn’t be bothered to give me even a chance. I can count the amount of teachers who were actually decent and cared about the students on one hand, it’s ridiculous. Disabled students were treated poorly and practically mocked, queer students weren’t listened to and were, again, mocked. Bullied students got, if anything, bullied more. Absolute joke of a school. The whole place is like a prison, with bars on windows, massive fences, stuff like that. Although, yes, that means it’s secure, it felt awful being there and even now, every time I drive down that road and see it, it still looks like a prison to me.
Well…. I went here for 5 years as a disabled student, and was not once made to feel like the others. I was always singled out, subjected to being made fun of, the lessons were super difficult for me and I didn’t really receive much help. However, there was a good quality in all of it- the teachers. They are lovely people who genuinely take an interest in what they do, and want nothing but the best for their students. It is such a shame I was treated the way I was by the students. I was called names, made fun of, etc. Nobody was really my friend. Everyone had their circles they stuck to and that was that. I spent my time there either talking to the teachers or on my own.
Teachers are generally good and likewise students but there is a large minority of students who have no wish to learn and cause problems for staff with their behaviour and said staff have to walk a fine line between discipline and potential unemployment. I suspect it is the the same now in any school. Upset a student and there’s a good chance one will be reported, disciplined, possibly suspended or worse sacked. The most disconcerting aspect is there is seemingly a whole host of staffers in one form or another who are on the lookout for the slightest breech of the ever increasing woke protocol and who will readily report a fellow staffer, all the while hiding behind the cloak of anonymity. Walking on egg shells and looking over one’s shoulder all the time is no way to have to work. Its a dreadful state of affairs where one reports another to save from being reported for not doing so. It’s a creeps’ charter and an unpleasant place to work.
Some of the reviews about this school don’t make particularly good reading but having worked there, I can safely say that these reviews have been left by a poorly behaved former student or his/her parent, the type that always take the side of their offspring irrespective of its bad attitude, something invariably fostered from home. I have personally seen the rude, uncooperative, insolent and aggressive behaviour of some of these students toward the teachers. They have no respect, no manners and seemingly have no desire to learn anything believing they know it all anyway. The teachers have had their teeth pulled over the years particularly by left wing do - gooders who believe any form of discipline is an attack on the student’s human rights. The teachers have limited authority and are virtually powerless to control these dreadful, disruptive and arrogant, gobby students. There is always an excuse for their behaviour, an ‘ism’ or an ‘exia’ or some series of initials which describes a syndrome masquerading just a plain bad kid.
Fortunately these kids are in the minority, most students are well behaved, work hard and wish to learn. They are also respectful toward the teachers.
Serlby Park Academy is a fairly new school, it’s clean, tidy and well looked after with facilities second to none. The standard of teaching is excellent and the dedication to the learning and well being of the students is likewise.
Do not heed the jaundiced outpourings of people who will never be satisfied or happy with their own shortcomings so blame it on others.
Teachers are mean, no help at all and disabled student are treated poorly and dumbed down they don't pay attention to any issues you talk about expecially when it comes to home life but are always trying to solve issues outside of school that dont concern them such as friend fall outs
