Selston high school has a range of great teachers and opportunities for your children to flourish. BUT in my experience there, I was bullied and nothing was done about it other then them saying we don't tolerate bullying as well as the amount of sexism and homophobia from a lot of the students is appalling.
I can say that when I was being bullied they tried to bring me inside to have a safer hang out space but that only postponed the problem. The only teachers who cared for me was Mrs henshaw and Mrs Cross. Other then that teachers did the bare minimum to try and help.
This is just my experience but they need to change it as I know many others who are also in this situation. Some of the students can be very polite but it all just depends
My child is now in their last year and hallelujah to that. Awful school.
The place has a big problem with bullying, but does little about it. Teachers are openly allowed to have favourites. Very poor organisation and double standards.
A high staff turn around says it all.
The school is more concerned about its fake image than the child. Not a safe place for a child's mental health.
I hated being at selston. The teaches don't care about students at all. I had 3 teachers I liked, my tutour, my maths teacher and my art teacher. Other than that, every other member of staff treated the students poorly. I also remember 2-3 teachers being removed from the school due to having relationships with the students in my 3 years at selston high.
I have anxiety as well as other mental health issues. When I was struggling I was sent back to my lessons after 5-10 minutes in the "student support centre". I remember there were times when I was having full on panic attacks in school due to issues at home and bullying in school and each time I was sent back into lesson. I ended up skipping most of the time because I wasn't getting support and most of my teachers did nothing about the bullying even when it was in their classes. Don't send your child here. I spent 3 years here and eventually my mum saw how badly it was effecting me so she removed me from the school, im so much happier now
Well I have a kid in yr8 and I took him off for a week cause he was extremely poorly they thought we went on holiday when actually we was in the hospital and sent someone to are house no one answered no car on the drive so they had fined us 250 pounds cause of it worst school ever he is never going back next he was struggling and asked for a minute outside with his timeout pass the teacher said no work is more important so couple minutes later he started crying his eyes out and shaking he struggled a lot so the teacher said just get out I’m getting on call your distracting the class.
All I can say is, this school has left me broken with mental health issues. They say that they are an anti bullying school?. But they don’t deal with the bullying or abuse. They sit back and stick you in so called “student support” and offer you no help only advice stating “your a grown up now, ignore them, reporting is snitching” the education is poor. Let me tell you this, most of the teachers don’t even teach, they are either on their phones or struggling to teach because of students who find it hard to learn because the level of work is hard due to teachers not teaching. This school is bad they let ex staff come back to school after they have been reported and removed from teaching due to having relationships with students. This school is outrageous
A school that looks good on the outside, rotten on the inside. Selston High school is comprised of poor quality teaching staff and a management team who live in their own little bubble. They do not realise where they are, and where the school is situated. They make no attempt to understand the community they are in, and even littler; the students. Instead of helping those "naughty" children, they turn them away, running from the challenge and abandoning the said students. How can these people expect respect when they give little to none. A couple of good teachers dotted around are negated by the vast majority of cheap options, poor at teaching, hard to learn from. The facilities are poor, behavior is poor, but this is no different or worse than any other school. The actual education and especially GCSE courses that take place are performed to a very low standard, and the statistics show this; hidden by the school. I am a smart kid, but no thanks to Selston High - I take all credit for my education. My advice to the kids attending? Don't be a 'neek', work hard but make sure you enjoy it (it ain't that difficult to pass) I just left myself and have to say, I will miss the place and its quirky little nerds and stupid Chavs. Selston, you were a barrier to my success but I made it through you easily. Watch my success - DD / Yr 11 / 2021
