My child who has Autism was bullied at Sacred Heart School (Blackburn) in 2022. He sadly suffered both physical and verbal forms of bullying. Our concerns as parents were not taken seriously at all by the Head Teacher. The most concerning aspect was that the Head Teacher in fact attempted to minimise and deflect away the bullying my child had suffered. The Head Teacher generally came across as very unprofessional in his attitude. It worryingly became clear that this school was not a safe environment for my child or potentially for any child experiencing bullying. My child certainly did not feel safe at this school.
It also became apparent the staff responsible for special educational needs had very poor understanding of even the basics of Autism . This created a barrier for my child to access the help and services he so desperately needed. After leaving the school he was better able to access the help he needed.
