this school is a disgrace, the teacher care more about the kids skirts, shoes and jewerly than the students actual work now a days. every single week i get a phone call on about something not correct with my daughters uniform and as parent who used to go to this academy it has gone down hill by a lot. the reasons i get phone calls are because my daughter has a ear piercing in which is meant to prevent er from getting head aches as she suffers with them very badly, she also had a note from her doctor confirming that this was the reason she has had to get this piercing, but still every week the school teachers let her over the blue line but then at lunch time or break they stop her and put her in isolation.
it is a disgrace !
That school is just appalling. Awfully boring lessons, unreasonable punishments when not deserved, bullies and all of the "naughty kids" are favourites. Very limited on when you can use the bathroom, even for a female. A lot of male teachers are rather creepy and constantly ask you to pull your skirt down and female teachers say it's because it's "distracting the male teachers". Changing rooms are just agonising. The prettier students with the nicer more perfect bodies shame everyone else for their insecurities. Very limited time to get dressed also. Teachers don't do anything once told anything important and they most certainly DO NOT care about mental health. I had to leave 2 months into year 10 because the bullying was so horrific and the teachers didn't do anything at all. Leaving was the best thing I ever did.
AVOID, AVOID, AVOID Dont deserve any stars..... students limited when using toilet as we were told 3 times is too much even with a toilet pass( due to injury to bladder). No drinks if you forget water bottle as they don't sell them. Isolation is inhumane you have to sit still in a chair all day, god forbid if you move you get suspended.. If a child has an injury or illness they don't follow their care plans that are in place. Which resulted in hospitalisation for my child. Thank god I now home school due to the mental health decline in my child. Best thing I did taking out child.
I’m not going to submit this anonymously, I really could not care less if anyone sees this and knows who I am. Let me just begin with the few positives. The building itself is relatively good, it isn’t very confusing to find classes. However, corridors are like ww2 battlegrounds. You can’t go one day without being shoved down a thin corridor at least once. As a disabled student, I can get options to leave classes slightly earlier or later if I feel the need to, but it is easy for other students to get injured in both corridors and stairwells especially at the end of each corridor.
Moving onto subjects that can vary in quality, such as staff. Around half of the staff are genuinely nice people; the type of teacher that will happily have a conversation with a student when it is appropriate, and will check on students regularly. Personally, I found that about 5/6 of the teachers on the humanities corridor (that I have been taught by) are nice, welcoming, good teachers. On the English corridor I would say ALMOST all of them are good, 1/3 of the teachers who teach drama, music, and art are good in my opinion, and 1/3 of the Spanish teachers are ok. But only about 1/4 or less of the maths department are actually ok.
Another case that can vary is well-being in the school. The school has a very nice counsellor, however, bullying is not managed well. Most of us know that bullying can have a huge impact on your well-being, this has only been the case once or twice with me, but it was not dealt with well first time, so I didn’t bother trying to tell a member of staff the second time. The first time, it was mid-late y7. I had been receiving verbal bullying from a classmate or two (who were luckily moved down sets the next year, and I then moved into set 1) and me and my friend decided to go speak to a member of staff (who generally deals with bullying) and we were just told to ‘ignore it’ or ‘get a grip’ or that ‘you aren’t in primary school anymore’ or even told to ‘grow up’. Tbis has a huge impact on my mental health, not only on its own but it lead me into a very dark place that I am still fighting to get out of.
Let’s move onto the main negatives. School safety being one. Students are not given appropriate punishments, say if you do manage to complain about bullying enough that a punishment is given, it is usually only isolation for a day or so, in extreme cases maybe suspension, but mostly only isolation for a day. Then guess what! The same student is back again and can just start the bullying back up. This is also the case with other things. I don’t want to be surrounded by other people who can’t be genuinely nice people. It would be acceptable if it was only some students, but at this point it’s 3/4 of the students there that are just rude.
where to start....teachers speak to student like they are something on the bottom of their shoe. denied basic human needs like using the toilet(if you have a weak bladder and need toilet alot then forget it) or drinking water. they dont sell drinks at school, if students forget their drink bottles(no plastic allowed) then they are unable to get a drink all day. The school dont care about the students wellbeing, its all about numbers and ticking boxes.
Overall an OK school if you end up being one of the smarter kids to begin with. It took me three years to get into that position and even then the favouritism is noticeable in most teachers. If you aren't as acedemically inclined or are suffering any mental problems-its very unlikely that you're going to be taken seriously. There are a lot of empty promises the school makes to do with prizes, and the awarding system is unfair and biased towards younger children. Making it very difficult for students in Year 10 and 11 to get any recognition, the school focuses more on pumping out numbers than the overall emotional wellbeing of students.
The location and school building is great, but I must mention that most of the work displayed in corridors and classrooms is severely outdated, some of it still being up since I joined the school. They try to be an Eco school, yet the students are unwilling and unmotivated as there isn't any insentive to care about anything. Some teachers may be the type to abuse the sanction system-
That's if your teacher arrives consistently to lessons as some don't-and if they don't abuse that system, you're likely in the highest set or a popular favourite.
