Teaching is good and effective but the school is so small it’s overcrowded and a hassle to get through the corridors between periods and sometimes claustrophobic. There isn’t even enough classrooms they have temporary classrooms in one of the car parks whilst they’re planning on building more which they haven’t even started on yet in the past few years they’ve started adding more and more students and there just isn’t room.
They hate individuality such as hair, jewellery, sock colour, coat colour, etc.
Frankly the food is disgusting, I have actually gagged at multiple of my lunches and it can sometimes take half of lunchtime or more waiting in a que to get food and the lines are out in the rain. I once had to wait my entire lunchtime for food and eat in my English lesson. Not only is it horrifically disgusting with terrible service but is over priced.
Once in french we had to read out what we got wrong in the test. I am very introverted and bad at French and when I performed badly in a french test I had a lot to read out and when I hesitated the teacher said in front of the entire class “what’s wrong *insert my name* too much to read out?” French lessons are my hell and I would rather throw myself down the stairs to attend them, I hate being forced to speak on front of everyone when I may not know the answer. This isn’t the first time I’ve been bullied by a teacher in year 8 a geography teacher targeted my to some extent calling my ideas stupid and telling me to shut up etc. And in year 7 after I took my first test in a style I wasn’t familiar with I got yelled at for how bad my work was when I tried my best, and me burying into tear was not enough to stop the teacher from yelling. Most of the teachers are very nice and I enjoy the lessons but during my time there have been a select few that made my life miserable.
There is also the fact that due to all the compulsory subjects we are forced to take we have very little choice of out GCSE options we are only allowed to choose too subjects one of which must be a humanity. I don’t excel at or enjoy science but I pride myself on my ability in other areas that I wasn’t able to pursue.
The only thing good about this school is it’s teaching I have learnt a lot and if you want good GCSE marks I’m sure this school will help you but it does have a lot of flaws.
The majority of teachers are good, however there are a few that make it clear they have favourite students. They therefore put the rest of the class at a disadvantage in order to favour a select few students.
The school environment is poor, considering how old the building is there are many faults. The site is also too small, so the outside space and number of classrooms is very limited. The size of the space available is not suited to the number of students.
The staff hold a strong focus on academics and place a great deal of pressure on students to perform well. This puts some students, particularly SEN students, at a disadvantage. It also in some cases can be detrimental to students mental wellbeing.
The schools pastoral care is relatively average. In-school staff are not all suited to their jobs in pastoral support, however regular teaching staff who are not trained as pastoral officers tend to be good at filling in where the pastoral team do not. The school is also partnered with a local counselling service, however my experience there was extremely poor with me being involuntarily discharged.
The schools handling of bullying is also remarkably poor, with the most common response to a bullying incident being "we cannot make everyone be friends with you". In incidents where physical bullying or severe online harassment has taken place, the school has taken little to no action, which is obviously very damaging to students mental health.
The school’s atmosphere is the best, it’s a family and they’re fairly good at teaching, but the actual building is trash, it’s too small and is falling apart
