Avoid at all costs.

The school has very little to offer other than run down facilities, lazy teachers needlessly going on power trips, and an air of unpleasance.
At this school you will be constantly told that you are "In the top 5 percent of students in the country", and that if you are in the school, you are part of an elite group of the most intelligent. A large amount of teachers seem to use this as an excuse to put very little effort towards teaching, expecting the children to know the course without being taught to any standard.

A good school with a lot of unfulfilled potential

By far the best school in the area for results, with a lot of room for improvement.

You should not pride yourself in achieving top results when only outstanding students are permitted to join the school.

From my 7 years of experience as a pupil at the school, there were many instances where students were left behind. Even students who were clearly motivated to catch up would be provided with inadequate support. This isn't about me personally, but about multiple of my classmates. Many of the worst teachers (in terms of quality) I had during my time have since left which is a positive, but the fact that some of these teachers were allowed to teach at a grammar school is pretty appalling.

Due to the fact that the feeder schools had different syllabuses, the first year was particularly instrumental in widening the gap in knowledge between classmates - that may be something worth looking into.

Academia aside, there is virtually no integration with the girls school. We have prom, and in 6th form some of the classes are mixed but that is it. This may be personal to me and my friendship groups, but I found it particularly difficult to talk to women coming out of the school. I'm no misogynist and poole grammar definitely teaches how not to treat women, but I think ages 12-18 are important years for boys and girls to interact. This probably doesn't apply to more outgoing and sociable groups, it's just I know I'm not alone in saying that having a bit more.

Disgusting

Where do I even begin.

Poole grammar school is a grammar school. They're meant to be the best.

All of the kids there are snobby and rich, who dotn even realise how horrible they are. Not only that, most of the staff are the same- full of themselves, and certain they are better than you.

They focus so much on blasting kids with 6 hours of homework every night and day, and tests every two weeks that you'd think they have some sort of mental health support- but they don't. Teachers belittle you like you are 5.

They turn a blind eye to their students being in the wrong. They commit literal crimes and they do nothing.

I was in the top 1% of under 18s in the uk when I joined. I was 11. Still, I struggled mentally and even wanted to kill myself for a while.

Steer clear

Awful school. No funding, bad teachers, the building is falling apart. General attitude is snobbish and annoying, for both teachers and students. Steer well clear.

Decent School on the Whole

Yeah alright it’s not the best secondary school in the world. But it’s far from the worst- especially in the area. Having been a pupil there from year 7 through to year 13 it was always enjoyable. Yes not every teacher is brilliant, but that’s life some you will find better than others. Yes it’s an academic school but encouraged all elements of learning and has an excellent music and arts department. I would recommend Poole grammar to parents considering sending there school here but make sure they actual learn some social skills outside of it because the all boys situation does no favours to some people 😂

Over-Academic hellhole

This school will suck any essence of self esteem or a social life out of you until all that remains is a dead carcass who can take exams. The school does not care one bit about you as a person, only the numbers you can produce for their precious statistics. This hides under the poor façade of a low quality support department ‘dedicated to the students’.
The teachers can be split into three catergories:
1. Power hungry autocratic leaders who will ONLY teach you well if you’re already good at the subject.
2. People who cannot teach to save their own lives, god knows how they passed a teaching course.
3. The very small percentage who can be considered actual teachers, and even then they’re average at best.

If you’re even thinking of applying or are a parent to someone applying, do not unless you/your child is the embodiment of academia. If you’re not in the top maybe 10%, you will not have a pleasant experience. You will be given the minimum possible to allow for grades to be achieved and any support stops there.
