Ponteland high is a fantastic school for academic students but fails the rest of their pupils who do not conform to the strict rules that stifle students who think outside the box and challenge bullying conformist rules that challenge students who disagree .In the past pupils who had problems with other pupils were put in a room to discuss their problems with an appropriate adult … today they just exclude pupils with evidence of cctv which we all know just tells half the story. This post won’t make any difference as the governors just want to tick the right boxes for their academic students not those who can shine bright if given the right guidance!
This school is good but it could be better. Sometimes I don’t eat at lunch because there is nothing there I can eat and the way they handle disagreements with students is bad. Other than that this is a great school. Good lessons have made loads of friends. (However I don’t really like the uniform it’s a bit dull, like it’s grey u could at least make it a colour or just make it black)
Horrific and traumatising place that has left me and many other students with lasting damage.
Many of the teachers were uncaring, had anger and power issues, and were completely inept at caring for often vulnerable children. I dreaded every single day at that place, and would spend all day extremely anxious waiting for it to be over.
school should be a safe and caring place for all children, and this school is far from that.
Many of the teachers seemed to enjoy having power over children who could not fight back or disagree with them, demanding respect when they did not offer the same.
They cared much more about enforcing strict uniform rules than helping children to learn, and would regularly prevent me and others from learning just to enforce these rules.
Male teachers would also enter the girls toilets regularly to remove children from them during break and between lessons.
Overall it was an extremely horrible place to be due to (many of) the teachers behaviour and complete lack of care and understanding of the children in their care.
In the real would, these teachers would never get away with this type of treatment towards others, but for some reason in a school setting, it's okay to disrespect and antagonise children, rather than treating them with compassion and care to create a learning environment where children thrive.
When I told a therapist about my experience at this school, she was not surprised and described it as a 'difficult school'
If you are thinking of sending your child here I implore you to think again, in hindsight, my mother wishes she had removed me from this school due to the damage that it did to my mental wellbeing. And I know that the same happened to other students.
