My daughter is in yr 7 and its the worst. Like, the worst. She gets bullied by teachers, too many pupils and the teachers are so racist. In the first year, 10 people already left school for another. The teachers are not highly educated and teach nothing. It really is a living hell. The teachers WILL NOT sort anything out for toilets and will allow people to wet themselves in class EVEN when they are desperate. Oxted school is crowded with people and they are not respected. Population is slowly starting to decrease because Nobody ever succeeded going to this school. Recommend going somewhere else. People also vape in the toilets, Students are abusive physically and mentally and the teachers are so racist. Explains why none of the children learn here
Extremely poorly staffed. Children are out of control with constant swearing using the 'C' and 'F' word. Teachers don't know how to control the children and children mock the teacher accents.
Student grades are below average and many get by with saying 'I don't need education' when I can become a Video Game millionaire.
Many can't write properly in Year 7 and Year 8. Many students to do lower grade GCSE papers which only achieve grade C at most.
Children with SEND requirements need additional support of move schools.
Sadly in the last few years, any qualified effective staff member has left. The levels of unsafe behaviour has been covered up, with practices that have caused staff to want to be away from this environment occurring. Staff, that would be unemployable anywhere else are employed, often unqualified . Presently staff are suing the school and approaching outside agencies to ensure the safety of the students. The inability to keep students in class, deal with behavior is exposing good students to experiences that should not be allowed. Teachers are broken and choosing to leave the school. The good staff and students are leaving and the grades will show this in the next coming years. As a parent do not send your child to this school, look to staff moving their own children and ask why? If you need evidence. In the last couple of weeks racist behaviour, threats and more have become a daily occurrence- do not use this school .
I hate it, there has been numerous problems with bullying, harassment even and the school did nothing about it my mum had to email about 5 times to ask to get me a toilet pass because they give you a detention if you ask to go to the toilet and with the bullying it’s the same people over and over again and all they say is “I’ll keep an eye on them.” “Just sit down and have a conversation.” There’s been a few times where I’ve been scared to go into school because I’m scared that Someone will come up to me or beat me up and the school don’t care. And it’s completely outrageous that they have a limit on the amount of food you can by, £6 a day you get to spend that’s not enough! Especially with the prices rising; a Radnor fizz used to be £1.10 it’s now £1.50 don’t send your children here
I went to oxted school and I feel really bad for my teachers they have to put up with about half my class boys and girls swearing running around the classroom throwing things for 7 years the students always got detentions but never went everyone who wasn’t naughty was bullied you can’t even have a friend of a different gender the list could go on and on but I’ll stop only go here for a last resort
I do not go to oxted anymore due to the amount of bullying I got, it's disgusting and horrific while I was there I got lost very easily and did not get the help, overall the teachers and students aren't nice and I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to put yourself through hell.
Barely any good teachers and there is so much unfairness like on Christmas jumper day the people without jumpers got let out last and my friend didn’t have enough time to get food because of that. Please change your ways Oxted.
Went to Oxted year 8-13, found it a good school in the grand scheme of things, sixth form in particular was good, a lot of opportunities to develop as a person, quality of teaching definitely increases in sixth form also, however lower years the classes are quite populated and you get a lot of annoying kids shouting. What Can you expect from a state school?
As a student from year 7-11, Oxted school is flawed in almost every aspect. Firstly, Academy greed means classrooms are heavily populated, meaning teachers can barely get through a lesson and the quality of teaching is awful as a result. Your only hope is to be somewhat educated before joining the school, otherwise you are thrown into a classroom with 30 misbehaving children in the lowest set and given the worst teachers they have to offer. The good teachers are all handed out to the already smart kids, leaving no room to grow as a student.
Their prioritization is disgusting, having a sibling who also attended the school, I know for a fact that they would rather have a child sent home numerous times for wrong uniform instead of letting them attend, despite having poor mental health, an unstable family and low attendance (all of which they were aware of). An easy way to tell how bad a school is by focusing on how strictly they enforce their uniform policy, surely a good school would be less focused on the type of trainers you wear in opposition to your education, instead of encouraging a student to attend school, they would send them home for insignificant problems which would only further harm the students education. I can only equate Oxted school's uniform policy to putting lipstick on a pig, a good school would not care so much about the aesthetics of their students, maybe if they put that energy into employing competent teaching staff they would have a better reputation.
Mental health services are a joke, do not expect anything from them if you struggle with your mental health, if you are being racially abused, if you are being bullied or if you have been sexually assaulted, I cannot express enough just how awful this school is, please do yourself a favour and DO NOT GO THERE. There is a reason all the good teaching staff have left, they will employ just about anybody including a teacher who sat all the POC students in one corner of the classroom and a much higher up member of staff who proudly told a room full of students their conservative views (this was during a protest of the homophobia a child experienced by another teacher). We should also bear in mind that political impartiality is a legal duty for teachers. Many personal experiences where Oxted school has failed its students could be named, but this review would turn into an essay in that case so I will repeat myself, do not go there.
Don’t attend unless you would like to be void of humanity
Was racially abused by my maths teacher, racism is not handled very well and was not given very much support considering that changes were only made a month before my gcse exams. Have met a lot of cruel students and teachers.
I have also dealt with boys sexually harassing me and once reported nothing was done (proof was given)
Lots of the male students are racist and sexually aggressive, not sure if slapping girls bums is still a common practice there but was very much when I went.
Many teachers are incompetent at their jobs, especially within the lower set classes, have had several experiences that would only happen in a sitcom.
However if you are lucky you may receive a teacher capable of controlling a classroom, however most of them have left.
Also the school really lacks diversity (which will be detrimental to your ability to socialise correctly)
If guns were allowed within the uk I’m certain there would be a shooting at least once every two months.
Do not attend this school unless you would like a cool villain backstory as you will be traumatised.
If you are with a good group of people you are most likely going to get along fine but the teachers in oxted school do little to nothing to sort out bullying and abuse if it isn't one of the people who they recognise as doing it often. The year 8s think they're bigger than they are even though their bags are bigger than them so they just walk round in mobs vapijg in the toilets and on the back of public transport. If you go here it's not the end of the world but you could do better.
My head of year team was an absolute joke I'm fairly sure I saw a comment on here from someone else I'm my year I fully agree with. As a guy the culture is so heavily based on sports, mostly football and if you don't enjoy it then tough luck. Because a few people in your year really love it you end up doing it most pe lessons . My head of year team was so focused on saying oh well done and everything but they never actually changed anything to make us better, just put in stats every week in our assemblies on how we were doing.
Some of the facilities itself were OK and some departments like the drama and music departments, although heavily inderfunded by the school as apparently they aren't as important in life, are very good and the staff make you feel welcome like a family over the few years you're with them in your gcse course but courses outside of English are not looked over properly so there is a lot of miscommunication.
Awful and lots of bullying. Very strict. Lots of sexual harassment. Vaping in the bathrooms. Bullying. More bullying and even more bullying. Sort it out teachers.
Inadequate teachers, too many pupils , way to much bullying
Where do I begin,
The school itself including the grounds are adequate, however for housing 1700 plus pupils it is way to small.
The teaching staff are not of a uniform standard, in fact some are outrageously inept at teaching. Most seem to be in teaching because its just a job, they have no empathy and no skills for dealing with children.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were more pupils out there who are bullied by teachers and peers alike.
I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone. All the good teachers leave while the stinkers remain. Ask yourself why this school goes through so many Principles.
it was ok but it was not great i how they handled the whole bullying situation they need to take it more seriously and have a punishment for every student that was bullying another student which was not right by the way because no student should be bullied just because they are different to the others
I was a former student here at oxted school and I'm sorry to say but I was absolutely appalled with the stuff here they only cared about uniform and students chewing gum I do not recommend sending your child/children here as this is a horrible school.
the year 11 team are beyond a joke, they only care about grades and football, did nothing about someone being called slurs and dont take their safeguarding seriously, no empathy from any of them
absolutely awful. way too many students for the school. since being an achademy it’s really gone down hill. teachers just don’t seem to care about the learning and care more if a student is chewing gum or if their top button isn’t done up. please please please do not send your kids here!!!
Ive not been for 2 years now but they dont care enough about bullying
And the dont help as much as they should i moved schools due to bullying but oxted wasnt better if anything i left with nothing as my life was a misery there and teachers only care about themselves other than a select few but be carful the will do you over somwhere along the line if you arent an a star student
absolutely horrific. teachers can’t teach, kids get lost in the system, kids do not get enough help. the bullying is not dealt with the way it should be. punishments are given for the wrong reasons. teachers do not wear masks or care about the students well-being. some teachers don’t even bother to turn up to their own lessons.
