Aggressive cultures, no understanding of adoption/trauma.
I had to remove my adopted son from here as it treatises him so much he became anxious about going to school at all. This was after absolutely loving primary school and being top of his class. Within months he was struggling and his grades plummeted. Boys with additional needs were labelled as ‘troubled kids’ and they were treated accordingly. When Inwent to speak to the deputy, at the second time of him raising his voice to me I had to say I could see why my son was struggling if a parent was spoken to like that. Absolutely zero interest in the impact on me or my son, or of understanding adopted children’s trauma responses especially when they are afraid and surrounded by fighting and watching children being man-handled. Wrote to the Head who said she ‘didn’t have time to deal with each individual child’s needs’ which she has a statutory duty to especially for LAC1 children. An absolute no from me and I’ve worked in education for over thirty years.
the school doesn’t care about people being made fun of and the pe teachers make fun of students abilities and some even mock them, they don’t care about how you are doing in school they only care if you are wearing makeup or have nail varnish on, some teachers feel they are above everyone and can treat the students how they like, some teachers give out comments for smallest things as i once got a comment for coughing, the teaching assurance help when you don’t need it but when you do need help they don’t, some TAs breathe down your neck and don’t leave you alone, the school also blames you for things you haven’t done and they care more about things like uniform or makeup as i said before, even walking past the boys english toilets smell like urine, the girls toilets are a mess and have unflushed excretion, the disabled toilet doesn’t flush and is leaking, some of the sanitary bins in the loos are full and have period blood all over. one cleaner thought they had the right to shout at a student for “bullying” a family friends daughter when they only had an argument. the pe changing rooms also smell and they have cctv footage recording in the toilets and in the diners loos you can see into the first toilet, the clocks are never on the right time, the classrooms are cold, the amount of homework is rediculous as students need there time at home to de-stress from school. most students don’t feel safe as they don’t speak to the students as some kick/hit/trip over others.
the school doesn’t care about the students and more about how they look even if that ruins students. The slt think they are above everyone else and laugh at students when they are being told off. they pick on certain students especially ones who like wearing makeup and do everything they can to make sure they get in trouble
This school does not care about the well being of the students and only cares about reputation, throughout my time there they have tolerated and allowed rapist and sexual harassers to continue going while simultaneously not taking precautions to make sure the victims of such attacks feel safe, for example the school did not inform staff when my friend was sexually harassed and they were informed, this resulted in the victim having to sit next to their abuser for the rest of the year. even if u live in otley i would say the extra travel time is worth it in order make sure ur child’s needs are put first
