Good for Learning and Freedom. Bad for Comfort and Safety.
I go to Norton college every day and my attendance is almost perfect. It’s a great place to learn without much stress. Not doing my best doesn’t feel like the end of the world and i feel like i learn new things. But i don’t believe the school is as accommodating as it claims to be. I’m part of the LGBTQ+ Community and students that harass me over it are never facing repercussions. I’ve been asked inappropriate questions about my Sexuality and Gender and the people who make such comments don’t get punished by those who should make us feel safe. A School is just a place to Clock in, learn facts, play games and then Clock out. It’s a place to discover who you are, what you want to be and should feel like a safe place. I am utterly disgraced at how i don’t feel safe being myself, especially not at this school. I’m disgusted not of just the behaviour of the students, but also of the teachers who allow it to happen. I love this school, but it’s far from perfection. Safety is the top priority and i really don’t feel it’s being provided. It’s so unsafe to talk about that I had to send a review anonymously instead of talking about it in person!
Norton Collage has been a saviour for my son. My son arrived with no faith in teachers, a hatred for other kids and struggled with severe anxiety and depression ( due to being failed in previous educational settings along with asd) He has finished this year with a completely new outlook on life. He has respect for teachers, made friends, got focus and walked away with gcse grades that he's proud of. He is mentally ready for the big wide world. Thank you Norton and all the staff. And thank you to the headteacher, Rod, who accepted him, believed in him and encouraged him. Im extremely grateful for what you have done. S.W
Students who do no work, always mess around, skip lessons frequently,
Are rewarded and praised for the bare minimum that they do. Students who always do what's expected and are always attending get nothing, because it's just expected of them.
It's not fair that the more confident, kids who do no work, get to stay doing no work and do whatever they want throughout the lessons just because they refuse for some stupid reason that's never valid for the little they do.
Another thing
The teachers clearly have favorites, and yes, obviously it's the ones who i just described, i have a perfect example that happened in class.
If a random student makes a mistake, the teacher shouts at them, no exceptions.
If their favorite student makes the same mistake, they laugh about it and joke with them.
If your a year 6 who's coming here and you are planning to skip lessons, shout back, do no work,
Then be ready to have a better time than the students who do what their supposed to do, because you'll quickly see your a favorite of the teachers, and you'll get away with not doing anything because you want to. I'm not sure i explained this how it went in my head, but my main points are:
Teachers have favorites and they get advantages.
Students who are 'bad' get more advantages, and don't nearly have to do as much work as the kids who are behaved.
Teachers do nothing about issues.
It's like a prison, there are tall locked gates ALL around the entire school
jesus christ.
little to no punishment for sexual harassment or aggressive racism/homophobia/transphobia
several literally psychotic teachers
expensive uniform (they r looking to change that tbf but the blazers are way overpriced)
grimy walls, grimy stairs, grimy everywhere tbh
alr field as well tbf but kindof ruined when ur followed and harrassed by random boys for literally walking and a teacher watches n doesnt do owt
foods good but idk how we r living off it and half the kids havent got deficiencies of something
i think the other review said this but the kids that actually try hard and get good grades are barely looked at by staff, borderline ridiculed even, and the kids that do well on one test the whole year and frequently skip are always praised for the littlest things
i mean the acc lessons themselves arent always useless but it rlly depends on the teacher
the school shows rnt bad it looked fun ig
the thing that sucks tho, its one of the better ones in the area. id still say pick it over malton or filey. thats a bit sad but whatever
The new head and new staff he is enrolling are awful, the kids that are always perfect dont get any form of recognition but those that are always naughty or ill, if they so much as smile at a teacher or show up to lessons then they get all the praise in the world. Teachers are very biased, even if they dont mean to be, they have there favourite students and if your not one of them, then they dont listen to your opinion and your side of the story. The busses to and from school are not to bad; there always clean, usually on time, and most of the bus drivers are quite nice. They have recently changed the behaviour system, saying its a trial run, but only really using it in year 10 and 11 because apparently the other years have missed to much learning from covid to spend time in isolation or suspended. Majority of the students are nice but if your not in the popular niche then some kids can be quite mean, nortons anti bullying system is atrocious. Like i mentioned previously teachers will pick there favourites, usually the bully, and not even listen to the other persons side of the story or opinion. There is loads of clubs for years 7, 8 and 9, but non for years 10 and 11. There are always loads of spoets fixtures on for the boys but rarely any for the girls.
