Newquay Tretherras destroyed my son's life. They do not deal with bullying effectively and leave it to fester so children are afraid to go to school. This creates a one-sided narrative and emails neimhbignores by safeguarding and SENCO. Ignored voicemails and made to feel like a parent that is being a pest. My son's mental health has been destroyed by this school
and has been the worst experience of our fillies live.
Horrible and awful. So much bullying and harassment. The rules are an absolute joke. Why can't we not roll our blazer sleeves? Some of ours are too long you know? Teachers don't do anything if you tell them about your troubles. And they have obvious favorites. The only thing I've learned here at tretheras is that you need to be tall, skinny, 'pretty', popular, vape, and be a bully to fit in and not get bullied. Please please please don't send your kid here it's honestly ruined my life there's nothing good here!
Do not send your child here. The only rules that are enforced are the ones that least impact our ability to learn, such as school uniform and NOT things that can effect our mental and emotional well-being such as physical harassment and bullying. Regarding safety, Newquay Tretherras does not enforce majority of their policies regarding physical and mental abuse, making several pupils including myself, feel unsafe especially when staff turn a blind eye to these issues and do not give the offenders an appropriate punishment. This school is hypocritical. Every month they talk of embracing differences and individuality yet the only rules they put an effort to enforce are the ones LIMITING our individuality such as certain hairstyles and colouring our nails - neither of which distract us from our education. I could list several incidents in which a fight broke out and the person who participated in the fight only as an act of self defence was punished as equally as the person who began attacking them, which is not fair, because if they hadn’t, they could have acquired a serious injury. So if you care about your child’s well-being and safety, do not send them to Newquay Tretherras.
Communication is non-existent with both parents and amongst staff. Bullying is not dealt with in a timely manner even when serious circumstances arise. Communication with SENCO, safeguarding team is also non- existent, very very disappointed in attitudes of teachers. Experience with children that have some form of neurodiversity are not well supported and staff do not appear to have the experience or education to manage these children appropriately.
Awful school, they care more about tucked in shirts and what shoes the kids are wearing than delivering a positive learning experience. Kids all look the same, leave your personality at home it's not welcome in this school
Really disappointed in the communication when my child was struggling at school with bullying from a group of kids and some older with no feedback unless i stomped down to the school. 1 teacher tried to help but to be honest it wasn't good enough. I had to wait 2 weeks before anyone got back to me. No reply from SENDCO, Safeguarding team as my child didn't feel safe at school. We feel we were pushed into a decision to remove him, it feels like it was an easy option for them to make a child that is sitting on a 2.5 year waiting list for an ADHD assessment to away quickly. As soon as I requested my child to be removed they responded immediately! Very strange that I had no contact whilst my child was distressed at home. Another call the next day! Asking me for outstanding books and a locker key. The fastest response I've had in 3 weeks.
Absolutely disgusting. Shame on you! My child is 12.
I would like to give an informed review of my experience at Newquay Tretherras. This is going to be fairly based and with all perspectives considered. Bare with me.
Hey, I'm Jaxon
I believe that Tretherras' staff have a can't be asked attitude. They seem to brush over and are oblivious to anything going on around them. This was especially apparent when I was in the lunch queue being kicked in the shins and pushed to the side. After I was barged infront of, the TA who was present at the front asked those boys infront of me were there in the first place. Obviously, they said yes and continued on. Unfairly, Unresolved and Unjustified.
Are the actual teachers good? Yes. They are. I met some of my favourite History and Science teachers whilst I was there in that school. However, regardless of how good the teachers are, if it is not a great environment then there is no point trying to learn as you won't. You need a safe, caring and enjoyable environment in order to learn at your peak-performance.
I also believe that the staff members have lost all discipline and as I said earlier, the majority of the non-teachers infuriated me as they are oblivious to what is going on around them. I have had too many experiences of people generally treating me and others here badly. Here, I will name a few specifically: my nickname was germ free boy as I said I did not want to touch gum underneath the table to one of my classmates. (Pretty normal if you ask me)
That's fine, I don't really care about petty name calling, But then, several people proceeded to lick my bag on a daily basis as they thought it would be a funny joke. This happened in front of several staff members who seemed to either not realise or not care.
When I was in Year 7, A few year 10's who I could name if I really wanted too were able to come into the Year 7 only zone. They then proceeded to ask me why I always 'had my arms folded'. Granted, this situation was different and a teacher did eventually realise. However, they persisted most days of the week because the staff clearly lack communication and they never mentioned these boys to each other.
I also had situations when boys would fight me. Of course the majority of these were never noticed despite being on the playground.
Generally speaking, the majority of students have a gang mentality and the ones who don't are mostly too afraid to do something about it and they let themselves become ridiculed.
Now you may be asking, Jaxon did you ever tell a teacher?. Yes, Yes I did. Did it help? slightly but not enough. And plus, the biggest and longest fight I got into which was in the corridors was broken up and then we were sent to 'the top of the stairs'. Then we were asked by the deputy head what happened. As I tried to explain, she shouted at me and sent us to a different room to write our 'statements'. The worst part about this is that situation was 'not going to be chased any further' and was dismissed before they even read my statement.
The boy was later expelled for trying to trade a bag of weed for vape with another boy from our school. We were in Year 8.
As I said, I told teachers about the issues I faced multiple times and nothing changed. I am now in a completely separate school and when I came here I was incredibly shocked by how well the staff as a whole act and how kind the students are in general.
Terrible school I was bullied very bad and the teachers did nothing I was taken out of lessons because of this and was basically isolated my grades where good before this now them slipping down like my mental health I snapped after a bit I had to just leave a lot as I couldn’t handle it this school destroyed my mental health and self a steam the head of year was useless I got my parents to move me to another school this school was horrible after haf a year resulting in getting a managed move back to Tretherras I couldn’t handle it there I panicked when I went there I had to just walk out as I was having several panic attacks a day in school my head of year cancelled my manged move back after being told in 2 weeks I’ll have my anti depression tablets she ignored I was sent back to the other school I never went in I finally after year 9 missing year 10 with the manged move then I finally was able to do online school in most of year 11 I didn’t pass GCSE and re taking some in collge , Tretherras all they care about is grades if u look at other reviews your see the staff here are a joke
Genuinely the worst era in my life I've ever had to put up with. There was never anywhere I could go at break/lunchtime, which is too short anyways, because everyone was shoved into one of two halls that could barely fit a preschool in, let alone like 3 year groups at once. Outside areas are just as bad, the students never respected anything anywhere so I always found tossed trash, bins laying on their side and gum plagued the place. I never felt safe at all there as the students would bully me constantly. Teachers did absolutely nothing to help and somehow I got in trouble whenever I tried to get out of a situation. Awfully set up clubs and even worse equipment, items used in PE or instruments always felt like they were gonna break. Depressed and moody teachers who do nothing to help the class, and all one supply teacher did was stare at the computer screen eating food, keeping us in complete silence and shouting atop their voice if someone else was eating. Each week there was a dumb LGBT meeting where some guy came in and a few other students talked. I was sat next to someone in a science lesson who said he was going to shoot up the meeting with a s**t eating grin on his face. Very close to the teacher and they didn't bat an eyelid. The PE teachers were always your typical coach who just stands around yelling at people with their hands in their pockets. And GOOD GOD THE FOOD IS AWFUL. THEY PUT SPINACH IN *EVERYTHING!* It was always greasy, raw and very hard to eat. Cyber security was also a massive joke, one student brought down the entire system and hacked into the CCTV on a later date. Lastly, COVID hit us at the worst possible time and I had to miss out on my GCSE exams. The school gave me 1s in every single subject besides science, which I was failing at before. I was working at a level 5-7 in everything else. The only challenging thing about this school was resisting the urge to off myself while being here.
Awful school. The policies and rules are all empty threats and false promises, aside from the despicable rules related to the uniform policy. The most heinous of these rules in this school relates to skirts. Actively instated since 2021, the teachers have been given permission to visually check if the skirts of students are "too short." Now, my major issue with this is that the reason teachers are permitted to check is that the length of the skirt may be 'distracting.' Distracting to who exactly. As a student, I'm not particularly distracted by my peers wearing whatever skirt they please, and this is generally the consensus among most in the school. Aside from some of the teachers. Why are these teachers looking at children in such a way that they may be distracted? It is vile that the school is allowed to continue with this. This is seemingly the only policy most of the teachers seem to follow. In their policies about what is worth 'exclusion' (where they separate the students away from their peers in school, another terrible practice), they mention homophobia/racism; while I am not going to broach the topic on how these are the *only* types of discrimination touched upon, I will talk about how these mentioned subjects aren't even enforced in school. Many times in this school I'veheard loud usage of the f-slur and the n-word and guess what? Zero punishment for the offenders. The only time I've seen homophobia legitimately punished was by two of the few respectable teachers here. They are the only time I've seen this addressed accordingly. Yet, for some reason, the school has a diversity week. A single week where they act like they're the most accepting and righteous school in England. And even then, during that week, all they do is *mention* the existence of people who don't fit within their constraints of "normal", as if those people aren't in that classroom.
Overall, this school is a vile, awful place.
Tretherras academy (Newquay) I guess it’s an okay school but there are two things wrong with it not aloud to go toilet (AT ALL ), next thing is u have the same time table all year so it’s rly boring and maths and English are rly boring and drag along as they don’t make it fun or engaging.
While some staff aren’t the best, generally I felt well supported and was encouraged to succeed. Considering the location and the general depravity in Cornwall the school still offers a high quality of care, despite this middling ability students tend to be overlooked, but there’s resources available to all students to help with both mental and emotional well-being.
