This school is horrible I still attend this school and the teachers are rude and disrespectful and do not think about students wellbeing it’s unsanitary and it’s very draining they’ll make it seem good to you at first but when your there they’ll treat you like garbage it will destroy your mental health they only care about your grades and it’s very obvious the rules are stupid they don’t care about students opinions and they treat us like were there kids. There is a massive amount of racism In this school and it’s massively ignored sending your child to this school will only make them feel mentally exhausted
This school is actually so bad, most of the teachers are all racist they dont like black people and most of them have dumb rules like you cant wear a coat inside espeically when its cold aswell please if your going to come to this school rethink unless you want your child to be racially abused, if anything go to ruth gorse, also the toliets boys and girls are literllay oppostite literally theres no barrier between them and your not even allowed to go to the toliets during lesson like i dont control my own bladder like what?
I attend this school its not bad I guess very cultural however this many racist teachers in this school I will not name names but there is a lot of racist teachers here. the school its self is good but can be better.
Bad and very stressful for your kids mental health
The school is very bad and the students don't get treat how they want to be treated and how the teachers yell at them and people judged for what they look like and that and they won't really sort the issue out properly so I suggest you go to a different school
Mrs M Vas continues targeting and picking on my child every time they come home upset because of her, everyday she picks on my child and excludes them out for doing the same thing that every student in the class is doing. It is getting increasingly worrying and hard because my child hates the days they have her.
MSM is absolutely shocking
They get the best GCSEs ONCE and they think they’re amazing but it’s MSM in cross green a proper shithole
Teachers are awful but you do get the genuine nice ones and they are greatly appreciated by students
They have such dumb rules that are really unnecessary for example vapes every teacher knows students do it but still take such an extreme approach about it like the students are gonna listen
I really would not recommend sending your children to this school I have had such a bad high school experience here and would not want anyone else to feel like that so do your kid a favour
I’m still surprised that this school hasn’t been closed down yet it is in such bad condition along with the old church next to it.
You won’t make your way in MSM if you aren’t a bully, popular or good looking
This school is so nasty to students now like when you have a problem with people no teacher listen at all it is very appalling . Like when some fat shame others being assaulted by other students and racist comments some teachers saying inappropriate to student when you report to a teacher they never do nothing . Stupid rules no coats instead when it is cold , to ask to take your jumper off when it a summer weather, what is the point , teachers don’t care about mental health or anything they say to come in when you don’t feel well but they don’t do that so I would never let my children to come to this school or it will be burned down anytime soon
This school is bad it’s so racist defends white people and say stuff like oh we can’t do anything or it’s not our problem when stuff involving other races happen teachers are so disrespectful shouting at everybody so rude to people the year office DONT deal with things properly they don’t let u go to the toilet when u can’t control ur bladder they give u a late even if u have a excuse stress us out
This actually is a really good school it offers many things that other schools don't and you don't need to be popular just to fit in I am a student and they are very welcoming when I was in year 7 everyone wanted to meet you the only downside is that the uniform can be really itchy and uncomfortable I saw some of the classes do a play of high school musical the singers were amazing and the school band were fantastic! I love this school this is my opinion and other people's have theirs. The only reason why its average is because of uniform but a tip for that is to go online and ask for something a bit bigger than ur size when I say a bit I mean a tiny bit.
Racist school, teachers as well.
My daughter was assaulted by other students, called WHITE BITCH, her phone was broken, she had bruises all over her body including head.
School didn't even ring for police, they only suspend other students for 3 days and that it.
My daughter don't want to go back there, everyone laughing at her etc as "popular" students making stuff up at her .
THE WORST SCHOOL IN MY EYES
Mount st Mary’s is a horrible school and the kids are horrible to each other. They say it is diverse but people don’t mix at all they just stay in their gangs and bully each other. Even the teachers bully each other I’ve seen teachers shouting at each other in front of the kids so all the good teachers have gone now. Kids have knifes it’s not safe place to be and all they care about it exams exams and not actually teaching anything useful
A lot of people would disagree with me, but I feel like this school is pretty good. On the positive side, they really care about your education the teachers will not give up on you and the care about your mental health, they give u support and let u talk to anyone. On the bad side, racism, homophobia, bullying is something they are not too good at dealing with. Also a lot of the teachers swear and say the n word and they get away with it, every time. The school really only cares about reputation but I can’t wait to leave. On the good side again, as naughty as u are they will give u a lot of chances they want u to succed. And back on the bad side, the uniform is awful. It’s extremely sexist too because on non uniform day girls are not allowed to come in skirts but boys can come in shorts, girls are also not allowed to come in shorts, we can’t wear any skirts or shorts in summer it’s so bad and we don’t even wear ties?? The uniform is extremely ugly and useless and it’s really weird how we can’t wear skirts but the pe skirts don’t go past our knees. About security too, there’s a little gate that kids slide under to run away, the security is so poor here anyone with a knife could enter school, once a girl that wore the uniform that didn’t even go here sneaked in to fight a girl. It’s not that bad of a school but just look into some other schools before applying here…
Word of advice, u won’t make it if your not popular, a bully, or good looking.
My experience in Mount St Marys hasn't been the best, bullying was my number one thing because I was badly for about 3 years and some things got done but they never took me serious, they would always say "oh he likes you boys do that" but there was constant name calling and stuff being thrown at me to the point where I didn't even want to go there anymore and wanted to move. The second thing would be mental health, I know teachers are not therapists but we are just kids and were going through things but they never seem to help or care which makes it so much worse because they treat you like shit. The next thing would be favouritism and racism, the favouritism in this school is SO UNFAIR you make 1 mistake and your treated so differently, and some teachers either never speak to u or pick u for an answer you clearly know or will pick on u for an answer you don't know, not to mention teachers like Mr flynn and Mrs leigh, they constantly get away with so many things like Mr flynn's punishments are so unfair, once my friend got excluded for something that totally was not her fault but he decides to keep the same boy that always misbehaves and gets away with everything, and Mrs leigh has said the n-word about a thousand times and is still working in this school?? Next the bathrooms. I feel bad for the cleaners because people constantly trash the toilets and the boys toilets always smell like urine while the girls toilets always have pads hanging out the bins its unhygienic and disgusting, not to mention the fact that there's no wall in-between the girls and boys bathroom so we can all see each other. The teachers are also mega liars, they talk about how amazing this school is but we always have fights, and the uniform is so ugly, girls cant even wear skirts because of boys but its out fault? I wouldn't recommended coming here, so don't.
Overall the school isn't that bad the teachers care about your education and mocks/GCSE's. except from that there is a lot of bullying, students are not nice not so ever and they always getaway with it, even when your waiting for food for example nothing gets done, or like one time a boy was being bullied and they did nothing, not to mention the amount of RACISM. There was 2 boys in our year that several racist comments and they told us they were suspended but they do work in learning zone THEY NEVER LEFT....and one girl said the n word tome and others and I got made to apologies because i was lying. The uniform is so ugly and everyone sweats in it because there's no space for our bodies to breathe its stupid how much coverage there is, i asked why and they said they want everyone to look the same which is stupid because boys look up ur skirts so they should just tell the boys off. And the bathrooms are disgusting and im not blaming the cleaners but it hardly gets cleaned and there one side for girls one side for boys but no wall covering so we are in the same room which is strange. A lot of teachers pick favorites as well, for example, MrsBarns, MrsAtkins, MrsSmith (PE TEACHER) I wouldn't recommend coming to this school, bullying, fights, racism, forced religion, smelly and old callings, wouldn't recommended
My child attended this school a 15 year old girl. She had a lady accident and asked her year leader to go home and changed which the teacher refused and said that staying at school is more important than my child’s comfort.
My child felt victimised by teachers, the teachers shouted in her face and made her feel intimated and made her feel uncomfortable to talk to them, which is not a place or situation that I would like for anyones child to go through. This led to my child having problems in school and not having a teacher to talk to about it which escalated the situation further
I once attended a meeting with the head of year and The approach they had towards me and my daughter was appalling and shocking.
It's a terrible, do not recommend. They claim to care about the children but they do not. They have favourites choose to be arrogant towards students. You used to be able to just go to toilet however they changed so you had to have a teacher go with you. I personally think that is disgusting and outrageous , as a girl that age can have period and may find it uncomfortable to have a male teacher there for them to finish. Adding to this teachers don't allow for girls to go to toilet when they need it aswell as boys. There is no privacy between the girls and boys toilets. The system just picks favourites and allows racists and bullies to have a second chance even after the most brutal comments and actions. There are kids going around saying the n word and receive no punishment the first time.
My child went to this high school and she got badly bullied. The teachers did nothing to help, and their headteacher is badly racist from what I heard from other parents and kids. Wouldn’t recommend going to this school.
I recommend, mental health is spoken of often, you don't get in trouble unless you've done something and that's on YOU, hygiene around the building is good, teachers are nice if you do what they ask and participate in lessons and issues can be sorted out easily.
How on earth do you have a school of 60% minority ethnic back ground yet the headteacher is a racist? and so goes for the other teachers at this "school," if you'd even call it one... x
The school it’s self is amazing, the teachers are so supportive, encouraging and constantly push you to thrive. The school is constantly improving to suit every students wishes, and help them gain courage around school. Academically, this school is great! Students and teachers are constantly eager to learn, improve and contribute in lessons and in other matters that will help improve their grades. In the past this school has had some bad occurrences however it has turned itself around! It’s a brilliant school - I had so much fun at this school, it pushed me beyond my comfort zone and encouraged me to gain my personality and confidence I now have today. I owe a lot to this school and the lovely teachers who made it like a second home to me; they constantly ensured the safety and welfare amongst the students. This school is not just a school but a family! Thank you to the amazing teachers and students that made this school a safe place for me, studying at this school was the best years of my life.
I went here for five years and it was a subpar experience. On the positive side, a handful of the teachers were super nice, kind and helped me improve a lot. However, the teaching in some subjects was insufficient and I had to teach practically the entire subject to myself. I got bullied during the earlier years and the “support” that I received for it literally just made it worse. A couple of the teachers in senior leadership had some sort of weird grudge against me and they’d glare at me in the hallways even though I was pretty much a model student? Among them there was also a lot of prejudice - once after an assembly about a fight the headteacher indirectly asked ALL of the black students to stay behind to talk to them, implying the that it was their fault. The school itself is really ugly in my opinion along with the uniforms. The school would also sort of peer pressure students into doing the sign of the cross everyday and to attend masses that they occasionally held even if they weren’t Catholic themselves. Overall, I didn’t really enjoy my high school years at MSM in terms of the school itself.
The sxhool is average. There’s bullying, sexual harassment that happens every single day. Racism by teachers and students that doesn’t really get sorted. People get bullied every single day and it’s never ever sorted. However student advocate are always there for you which is what makes the school average. There always there if you need a talk during, after or before lessons, even through emails you can make contact with them.
So I have a lot to say. This school does not care at all about the discrimination that students face or any other derogatory comment made by both staff and students. Racism is a HUGE problem. Not only do I know many teachers that have said it, but many of them excuse it for 'educational purposes' like when reading Of Mice And Men or when we learn about the slave trade. I know at least 3 teachers who have said it and nothing had happened to them. Not only are the teachers racist but so are the students. One VERY awful guy has said the n word (as well as A LOT of other awful stuff) and he got away with it for a good year, maybe he got an isolation, but other than that he was fine but when two black students said it they received a couple days of exclusion. Like wth. Finally this guy got permanently (I think, I have seen him in school for many months) excluded in November or sometime like that but that was only after he called his black friend the n word. The fact is it took way too long to kick him out, especially when I reported this guy twice to my year office in a span of a couple of weeks for multiple discriminatory comments he made, but I got told since it happened in the last academic year, it was too late for them to really do anything. I also heard that the head teacher made an assembly about how we should care about the war involving Ukraine since it is a fellow European country and that people go on holiday there as well as the fact that it isn't a 3rd world country like Syria or Afghanistan.
Racism by itself isn't the only problem. The school is also sexist. I've heard teachers calling girls (specifically black girls) sassy because they were talking about something they knew a lot about or were correcting them. I've heard boys dismiss sexual assault and laughter at videos we get shown I form lesson, PCHSE or what ever you call it. Another guy was supporting Chris brown, who assaulted Rhianna, and saying what he did was good or something along those lines. There was also a guy who was claiming the patriarchy isn't real and that it in our (women's) mind. Guys often cat call girls, commenting on their appearance. I myself have also been called aggressive or rude for being opiniated and speaking out against discrimination and you can tell a lot of people in my class dislike when ever myself,.or any other girl that is unafraid to speak her mind, says something they view us as dramatic.
I also hear people use the r slur around frequently, both teachers and students, and nothing happens. Also, if you are familiar with the musical 'we will rock you' , you might know that the main character gets flashes of how the past looked like and it's music at that time and due to this he might do some eradic movements. My teacher compared this to having tourettes. I've also heard of teachers calling the neurological students 'normally because they don't need extra time on their tests. And the frequent use of 'ocd' or 'bipolar' is used to describe common human behaviours eventhough that person does not have that disorder.
We also have a pedophile pe teachers, that the school is aware of, and now he isn't allowed to teach the girls pe because he starts at them when we do pe or he even once walked into the girls changing room while the girls were changing claiming he had a niece in this pe group.
The school is very fake and performative in general. For example, the school has been doing SO much for Ukraine ranging from a cinema night to raffle tickets or even pig races to raise money for Ukraine (there is a lot of other stuff I'm not going to name since there is a lot) yet they never spoke about Afghanistan or Palestine or any other country because they are racist.
Homophobia is also a huge problem. People get away with homophobic comments all the time and teachers get away with dead naming students that they are aware have changed their name, or sometimes even using the wrong pronouns even after being told they are using the wrong ones. Students happily admit they are homophobic themselves and question why we should do anything in support of the queer community. The staff have also deemed that using your actual name rather than ones dead name on goodies that you are able to get in yr10 is a safeguarding issue, even though there are students that have nicknames or initials on their hoodie. Linking it to the performative activism this school loves to do, last year the school held a 'standing together to support the lgbtqia+ community' thing in the muga and then when they posted the pictures on Instagram, they not only captioned it #mentalhealth (saying nothing about the queer community) but they also cut out my friends and I out of the picture (we were holding up pride flags) and said it was because we were 'talking' eventhough there were other people in the line doing the same thing.
The stuff we get taught regarding discrimination and stuff like that in PCSHE lacks intersectionality as well as actual effort. They get the white man who probably knows nothing about the experiences face by marginalised groups like women or poc to do the PowerPoint to only say the same thing I've heard million times before (with only some acceptions). Like with international women day the PowerPoint was so watered down with no inclusion of women with other marginalisation, and I think that is really damaging. And for black history month the school didn't even try with the PowerPoint; it was honestly very disappointing to see.
On a lighter note some of the rules are just plain stupid. We can't wear are coats inside because apparently it take up lesson time as though me trying to take my coat of with three other bags in my hands is not wasting time. The school honestly cares more about you appearance than your actual learning. Like they'll give you a full day of isolation if you have more than one stud in your ear or if your hair is an unnatural colour. We don't even have skirts to wear for the summer; yet, my pe skirt is so short it barely covers my bum. Thank got it's a short. That is especially confusing since they won't even let the girls wear their own black leggings or joggers if they're more comfortable unless to put one the school's skort or shorts.
This school was horrible. Some of the teachers do not care about you or your mental health. Our science class was told off by the head for bullying our teacher when we were just making notes. Also, after a year 11 trip a teaching assistant made an innapropriate sexual gesture at a student at a trip and he was allowed to keeps his job bit only be around year 7s. However, when we raised a point about it we got told off. Do not allow your child to go there. The students encounter racism, sexism, bullying and just nasty behaviour towards them everyday. I regret going to this school and I'm not letting anyone close to me apply. They only care about their reputation.
Also, there was a lot of sexual assault on female students from male students and teachers did nothing to prevent that. It's awful when a teacher is looking at you while it's happening. It's vile.
You will not succeed in this school unless you are very popular or a bully.
I am a former student at Mount St Marys. I can vouch for what many of these students are saying. It has been years since I attended but when I was there I was subjected to/ had to witness racism, sexism and verbal abuse. Mental health was overlooked and sacrificed for Highschool representation, girls in my year were sexually violated by teachers and there was little to no repercussion (not until about 2-3 years after we had left). The school prioritises 'smarter' students and pays little attention to students in lower sets, resulting in many students just giving up on their studies and not doing well in their GCSE. Even though I have done relatively well for myself it took a lot of self-reflecting and therapy to help with the anxiety I gained from attending this school. Personally, I WOULD NOT put my child in this school. Go to Cardinal Heenan (or any other school to be honest) instead.
The school is so dirty and unclean there are cobwebs dust dirt and I wouldn’t wanna imagine the bacteria the school bus is worser, the toilets are terrible urine all over and writings all over the walls it’s disgusting we have to share the toilets with both genders no privacy at all The plates and spoons and forks don’t get clean at all THERES always hair in the food The school may be diverse but so racist and do not handle racism homophobia or transphobia at all they try to hide it and keep it discreet if you told them the issues they would ignore it, you would have to get a parent involved for it to be dealt with the teachers treat you so poorly and take advantage of their power they will give you detentions without a valid reason just because they can and abuse their authority all the time Your treat like animals you can’t go to the toilet when you went it’s disgraceful you would have to pee yourself before they let you and the school diners are terrible having the same thing all the time The sexual harassment is terrible for girls also are P.E uniform is so short it makes many of us uncomfortable we try to ask but they ignore We don’t have TOILET ROLL in the TOILET by the way please don’t send your child to this school it will ruin them x
