Teachers are horrid

Students told they are " going nowhere in life" by teachers and called horrendous slurs by students which the teachers do not care about , there was only one member of staff that treated my chikd with respect non stop and helped them through a very hard time in life, non stop bullying and even one of the teachers got caught calling my childs friends mother " an unfit parent " and that " she shouldn't be a mother"
This school made my childs mental health collapse, please whatever you do DO NOT send your children here

*WOULD NOT RECOMMEND*

personally from years 5 to 7 my overall learning experience at newminster has been alright but year 8 has been appealing to say the least i feel unfairly treated by a few members of staff and a few of the children are out of order and do not get told off nearly as bad as others as well as this some year 8 staff have favorites. the same girl has been picked as star of the week for the last 6 weeks, personally this is my experience, but some of these teachers are not trained...

Bullying by staff and pupils - avoid this school.

I can’t think of a more detrimental combination to a child’s emotional development than being educated by teachers who hate their job (and possibly children) and bullying.
Both issues are rife at Newminster.

Very disappointed in staff

I have a couple of reasons for my rating being so low for newminster while the school isn’t terrible they definitely have some issues that are worth noting . One notable thing being that a lot of children I know have had a somewhat negative experience

1. Some of the staff are awful at their jobs. This is not a majority but some of the staff act abhorrently within class, to give examples some teachers would humiliate children by tasking them with too high grade questions for their level of learning, to the point of students crying. Others would talk about things inappropriate for the classroom scenario like telling kids to shut up because they didn’t want a headache so they could go home and drink. Some students noted that they were told they would not be able to pursue certain careers and continually told that they would not pass their GCSE’s
2. The lack of bullying awareness , multiple children including those I know reported clear signs of verbal and emotional abuse between toxic friendships with the staff more concerned about gaslighting the affected child into believing it never happened or to apologise to the other for telling on them. Although there is a counsellor at the school, information about accessing help was not advocated for or openly expressed in the classroom setting, which is partly down to the curriculum not including enough information about mental health issues.
Those are the two main issues I can remember witnessing or being affected by, while I understand staff members can only do so much some of the staff do not know how to supply an encouraging and constructive environment for children who are their to LEARN not be told that they won’t amount to anything when their older or that they won’t pass their GCSE’s. That’s not motivation, teachers aren’t their to project their own insecurities onto their young impressionable students. There needs to be a massive shift in staff attitude and reconsideration of which staff are really appropriate for the teaching profession.
