CORRUPTION paying Ofsted to get good

Read this fellow parents, don't send your poor children to this toxic place , where children are shut away like in Victorian asylums and dropped, forgotten for years!!!!! Spineless, uncaring leadership without any training or understanding of human nature, of respecting children as humans not under dirt.
Absolute disgraceful place, so traumatic, vulgar leadership , it s an embarrassment! No wonder three quarters of the teachers have left!
It is a shame for our community to have to find better schools or private schools for our children to get an education and integrity!
Take your child elsewhere if you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad for everyone, not just chavs.

Even as a student who tries their best to do the work and listen, I still have to say that millthorpe isn't the best place to go to. I am not one of the chavs who constantly interrupts the teachers, messes around for no reason or is just a bad student in general , however, even I have felt disrespected at times and treated like one of them. They don't listen to your voice, anything you have to say, despite being a good student or a bad student.

School food is often referred to as "disgusting ". I have not had any issues with the taste of the food, however, I know a friend who almost vomited after tasting it.
Me personally, I think the food is not that bad and it actually has a small variety of different cultures per week.
The price of it, however, is something out of this world. You have to pay 20p for syrup on your porridge? The small pots of pasta cost around £2.35. Pupil premium students are on average allowed just above £2.50. And it's not just pasta that's expensive: the uniform is outrageously overpriced.

Moving on , break is draining:
By the time you get in the actual canteen, there is not much food left, and there is usually 2 minutes until the bell rings for 3rd period. An average student like me is just wanting to get the day over with and finished and the 15 minute pause is just useless. On the other hand when I do want a break after the previous lessons, 15 minutes flies by like seconds.

Teachers give points for stupid reasons.
I know someone who got a point for dropping a pen lid- if it was actually their fault I would agree with the teachers but It genuinely wasn't his fault this time. I know the guy and he rarely ever gets points.
One of my friends also got sent out the lesson because his top button wasn't done up and his tie was too low.
I have had multiple experiences where I have done the work, but because I turned around once the teacher was on my case. The other half of the class had their feet on the table, someone was scraping at a hole in the wall and they were all talking, but because the teacher doesn't know how to control the class she decides to have a go at me for turning around. I inform her of what was going on behind her back and she says to me "It's not my problem."

Some teachers are also just weird in general: half of them don't know how to teach, one supply also has been caught watching porn multiple times, and most teachers are leaving.

The school actually says they care about mental health but they don't - many times that my friends have cried in front of teachers and poured their hearts out to them they have been told to drink water and go back to lesson. Everything also gets reported straight to your parents - who in some cases would get angry at the student for being overdramatic.

The people here are also not the nicest. The chavs sometimes do my head in. The year 8s and 7s think they're hard and are rude to random people for no reason.
People also leave rubbish everywhere on the tables which in turn aggravates a particular dinner lady, making everyone hate her. I think every millthorpe student reading this knows who I'm referring to.

The point is that even Millthorpe isn't the nicest place even for people who try to be good, but of course it's not like the school will actually read these reviews and do something about it.

Terrible

Absolutely terrible. They don’t care about mental health or bullying.
Absolutely awful head who only adds new rules rather than fixing the god awful place. Where do I get started on the toilets. They are cleaned about once a year and in the boys toilets , the first one has racial slurs and drawings of genitals on the walls, the second one has poo on the walls that is never cleaned, the third one has a lock that barely works, and the fourth has no light which hasn’t been fixed for many months. You are never allowed to leave class to go to the toilet, even if you were on a period. They have been in the news for lowering the pay of TAs(teaching assistants) and teachers and increasing the pay of the head of the academy.

i’m glad I moved school

a lot of the student reviews from this school fall into 2 categories 1-2 stars with the author appearing to be a student who doesn’t enjoy education/ is not adamant about getting 9* or is someone who has just started and therefore is blind to the horrors about to unfold. I offer a different perspective. at millthorpe I was a senior librarian, diversity ambassador and the school reading, oracy and literacy ambassador. I went into millthorpe really excited and ready to learn.

in primary school I struggled going to one (similar to millthorpe in the way) that was only bothered about grades. and to be honest for the first 6 months (in the middle of covid) I did enjoy and thrive at millthorpe. but that quickly changed.

one line defines students at millthorpe ‘you are just a number’, you are just your expected grade. a great example of this is when I need to sort out an issue with my gcse choices, a friend of mine also had the same issue although we sorted it independently. my mum received an email half way through saying that a deputy had had spoken to me about the issue. she had not, she had spoken to my friend. I went up to her the next day and called her out on this, no apology, no oh let’s go have a chat, just “ok, get going”. how is that appropriate?

next I would like to talk about teaching at millthorpe. this year I have been taught geography by an art teacher and music by an english teacher even though on my timetable I have a proper geography teacher. so why do I have a art teacher because the geography teacher “gained to many extra responsibilities and therefore needed the time to fulfill there role” meanwhile millthorpe has 4+ deputy heads.
however this is not the worst of the teaching in science I have 2 teachers one came to a lesson was harassed so much by students that she hasn’t come back and the other who stands at the front arms crossed finger over lip waiting for the class to be quiet. I once measured the time spent in this pose within a 60min lesson 33min. and yet that is not the worst! my english teacher ah yes the man who should not of passed a McDonald’s interview. I doubt he has ever even washed himself and that’s not hyperbole (a word I doubt he would understand) not to mention the time he used one of my physical characteristics (the colour of part of my body) as a joke in class to “help explain what a metaphor is”

while I could go on to talk about other such things as food, safety, communication or any other category I had to rate 1 in this review (all of them in case you haven’t looked) I will talk about the head. never before have I seen someone so incompetent she can’t vocalise her self mumbling on stage and moaning about not being able to read or having forgotten her glasses. she is an embarrassment.

I leave you with this go to millthorpe and become just a number. i’m sure we all know where else people are just given a number

Disgusting Teachers

Teachers:
The teachers are so horrible (except for a few)
Especially my English teacher. He gives us all points (negatives) and he gives detentions like sweets on Halloween. Here are some of the things he has said to us in the past year:
‘’I am sick of your behaviour, after half term you will be different’’
‘’No, i don’t have favourites, I hate you all equally’’
‘’I am sick to the back of my teeth with you lot’’
‘’Working in silence for the whole of the lesson’’
‘’You are acting stupid and like 2 year olds’’

I think if you go to Millthorpe already, you might know this teacher

The amount of teachers I have:
I have loads of teachers …
Maths - 3
English - 3
Science - 3
Music - 1
Languages - 3
Art - 2
Geography - 1
History - 1
Computing - 1
PSHE - 1
Design - Usually 5 (changes)

Just thought it would be interesting to talk about the behaviour of teachers, absolutely disgusting, don’t think I need to cover anything else because all of the lovely people have posted it! Thanks guys :)

a ever declining grade factory

I have gone to this school for 3 years, they say time and time again they want consistency in rules and the enforcement of such rules. these rules include:
- you can’t go to the toilet in lesson (even if you are allowed out the classroom good look finding a unlocked toilet)
- strict and defined areas of access (you many not enter certain areas of the school such as the courts (the only non grassed outdoor area)
however these rules were made within 3 months and will be gone in 3 months. the only consistency is the constant rule changes.

I have found an escape being able to move schools and therefore save my gcses but all those who don’t will not be getting their potential grades for the past month I have had more substitutes than teachers and in some subjects I have a teacher trained for a different subject as my only teacher. how will we be taught anything with this. people are afraid of tests because we aren’t taught the content yet we are valued purely of our grades. this school is not a school unless you consider deceiving the public into believing it’s is brilliant while not feeding students who can’t afford food and qualify for free meals

It’s absolutely horrible.

I am currently a student at Millthorpe, these are the reasons I think it is a bad school.
The food at the school is quite nice, if you’re able to get it. Earlier this year Millthorpe was in the York Press for not feeding the younger years and prioritising the older years. I can say that this was completely accurate, we went for our lunch at 1:40 and were lucky if anything was left for us. Appalling.
The other day we were all taken out of lessons to be shows the ‘new rules’ which are completely unnecessary.
It’s like we are living in a prison at this point.
If you feel sick you have to go through the entire lunch queue to go to the office! What kind of school does that?!
After you get your lunch you can either sit in the canteen or sit in the canopy area, if you leave the canopy it’s a one way thing. If your turn right then you get a point, and if you do it multiple times then it’s a 30 minute lunchtime detention. Just think about how stupid that is. You have to turn left then go through the school to a specific areas and you are only allowed through certain doors.
It’s horrendous.

Moving on from rules and food.
Toilets and Teachers.
Millthorpe was recently in the newspaper for not paying teachers enough, some of the teachers actually say to the students that they might go on strike. That’s bad. We have supply teachers all of the time who don’t know how to teach us properly. Two maths teachers that I know of learnt how to teach year 8 maths of the summer. People go to university for that and they apparently learnt it in 6 weeks? Complete bs. And about the toilets, in our school there is a lot of ‘blocks’ which have different rooms for seperate subjects. A Block which has science and languages has girls and boys toilets in which are locked during lessons so we don’t go and now we are not allowed to use them at break or lunch either due to these new rules. Why, you might be asking? I don’t have a clue. Ask the headmistress. You are not allowed to go during lessons unless it’s an absolute emergency. You have to tell a teacher it’s an emergency otherwise you do it in the classroom, it’s gross but that’s how it is. Someone I know was on there period during lesson so she asked if she could go to the toilet, no, the teacher said, she said it was an emergency, no, the teacher said, she said she was on her period, no , the teacher said, she started crying because a teacher wouldn’t let her be hygenic, and once again, no, the teacher said. That’s horrible and no one can tell me otherwise.
All they care about is exam results. They don’t care about how we are what so ever.
Many teachers have left the school recently because of all these changes and the fact that they weren’t getting paid enough.
On December 7th it was Christmas dinner day. It costed £9.00. And for that price you would expect a decent meal, here are some of the comments some of my friends said about it
“The cake was rock solid”
“those potatoes were so hard”
“It tasted like sick”
You can ask anyone who had the dinner and I’m sure they’ll say the same. As well as having Christmas dinner in the canteen, they had sandwiches, great for the people who didn’t buy it.
You go to the queue to get in, “No! Your not allowed in unless you have a Christmas dinner ticket”
Every door to the canteen was being guarded by teachers.
So basically if you didn’t pay £9.00 then you weren’t allowed dinner. That is absolutely sick.

If you are a parent thinking about sending your child to Millthorpe.
Don’t, I promise you’ll regret it.

Trash

Some teachers alr good but they care more about uniform then peoples mental health and grades . Really don’t see how me having a specific hair colour or a nose piercing is “distracting” to be honest it’s distracting if ur pointing it out. Mostly the students and the teachers ignorance that ruins it too though. Kinda sucks how people can’t concentrate because other people are playing up and the teachers are oblivious or let them off easy. New staff seem to actually know what there doing more now though which is good . This school was a hell hole.

Why would you even THINK of going here???

After 5 years of staying in this shit hole, I can say that my 3 star google review back when I was in year 10/9 was wayyyy to generous.

What is there to say about Millthorpe? Well there's a lot that me and people I've met in there would say and I can promise you it isn't nice.
When you go to a open day in Millthorpe, you are welcomed with open arms, shown some of the lessons as well as being offered the food, the open day is great I will not falter them. I looked forward to the open days evrey year since I get to help as well as running around the halls seeing what people will think, but truthfully don't believe any of the bull shit they throw in your face they glamorized a terrible school and pulled me and many other into this awful hell hole.

The place is constantly under construction. When I first went into the school the roof in one of the blocks was fully gone. They didn't shut down that area while all this was happening, not even when it rained. We were stuck walking around a self made marsh land for the first year and a half I was in this school.
Another problem with this school is the alarmly large amount of rules.
You know how Millthorpe says that they want you to be your self and be expressive. Yeah, that's bull shit. All the clothes are strictly critiqued and more expensive uniform is put on your child, like ties, blazers, trousers, skirts.. You get the idea, and it's more likely that there's going to be more uniform rules now especially since the new head is more stricter than you've ever thought she could've been.
Other rules are the usual stuff you get in normal schools which are usual, but does anyone ever listen to them? Hell no. Do they try and do something about it in any reasonable way? Hell no. Do they just make the punishments worse for everyone and not just the selective few who do worse than everyone else? Hell yeah. Luckily I haven't fallen victim to the worser punishments, I've only had 10 minutes.
Though the lightest punishment went from 10 minutes, to 30 minutes and then of course to 100 minutes, and even I feel bad for the chavs at this point.

My final argument against Millthorpe is that it has absolutely horrific mental health support.
For me I have less bad experience with the mental health staff and only used them more towards the end if the year when I had panic attacks, but I have heard a lot of bad stories of the mental health support.
For example, not telling the person who watches over the exams that you're autistic to save time and them only finding out a lot later than they should've.

In conclusion, Millthorpe school is a hell hole which cares more about exam results than the students and mental health.
If your a parent or child who even thinks about going here, don't. This school is only getting worse and, luckily I won't be there to see it.

Millthope y11

Honestly millthorpe school has been a pleasure to be at for 5 years, at the end of the day no students like school in general but I do like millthope, only a few things that are very irritating and wrong like all school, millthope school will support you, look after you and give you the best education they can, most of the teachers I get on with so well and I could trust them with my life, I’m so thankful for the support millthope have given me these last three years with health issues and then mental health issues because the whole way even when I’ve not felt supported by anyone I’ve been supportive by millthope, all of the slt are lovely, mr baybutt, miss Simpson, miss Jonston, mr gilbanks, mr beever, miss greenhalgue, you can tell there hearts are in there job and they care which is what I love most about millthope.
Building was a little run down when I first joined however millthope have really sorted there selves out of it’s the facilities!!

Traumatising

most of the teachers were good, and lessons were generally enjoyable. however, staff heads, headteacher etc were awful and only seemed to care about keeping a reputation. rather than spending money to fix things such as the perpetually broken toilets, leaking roofs, damaged equipment and lack of supplies, they built a stadium and enforced a new, less accessible uniform to extort students and parents. staff seemed very dissatisfied with the way things were run. additionally, the £4 daily lunch limit was ridiculous as if you were hungry on break and lunch, sometimes you’d have to choose/get less because it would take you over. the so-called “student support officers” should not have been allowed anywhere near children, especially vulnerable ones. on many occasions did they scream at me, accuse me of lying, verbally threaten me, accuse my parents of abuse, and even go so far as to gaslight me on multiple occasions. as a neurodivergent minor, the way they treated me in the time i was there was awful, unfair, and shows that they were completely unqualified to deal with mental health, despite their claims. the things they said and did are still affecting me almost 4 years later. had decent banter in lessons though, and again most of the teachers were great and far kinder and more helpful than the fools employed for that very purpose. the bud was pretty good too. overall had a fun time but if you come expecting a proper school and not a rundown circus, you’ll be disappointed.

Low key ruined my life

Most of the teachers were intolerable and bad at their jobs (a few of them were absolutely fantastic), they don't do shit about student mental health even if you self harm, rats in the classrooms and corridors, bullying and discrimination was rampant. Overall just a godawful school, and if you are thinking about sending your kids there: don't.

Not bad

Cannot fault them really they’ve help me so much with my mental health when I was in hospital all they did was help and when I was off for a long time they supported me entirely there are student support officers head of houses and school councilors there have been a few insistence with bullying but every time the bullies are punished usually with many punishments and don’t tolerate it at all there are over the top with uniform a little too much but this isn’t a bad thing I guess as it is smart.
