Numerous issues but one of limited options for desperate parents
I have worked with numerous children from this school in my current job role, but do not work for the school directly. It has had numerous issues maintaining good and consistent staff, and as such numerous concerning behaviours have been repeatedly ignored by leadership. Over the years I have watched their standards decline further and further, and as a result a lot of the children have either stagnated or reversed progress previously made.
A lot of the paperwork around these children is sub-par, and shows a critical lack of understanding of said children, as well as the poor standards of a lot of the teaching staff.
Whilst several individual staff members are brilliant at what they do, a lack of support and the numerous other failings listed above show a clear problem with the leadership of the school. This is compounded with an IT system that is run like something from twenty years ago, with insecure devices and poor/non-existent monitoring of said devices.
I would advise parents to avoid it with the current issues, however I am sadly aware of the reality that there often aren’t other options due to limited spaces within specialist schools in Devon, a fact that makes the lack of effective leadership and competent administrators all the more insidious.
