I attended MidKent college when the campus was near Rochester Airport. It was very tired, run down and not a lot to do there. The only handy thing was the transport link, the 101 bus stopped right outside. I had a tutor called Sue Fleming and she was absolutely vile. She was the first to be rude to students but then couldn’t stand it when students stood up to her. She called me in for a meeting, and threatened to kick me off the course if I didn’t improve my behaviour. She also said I wouldn’t amount to anything and I’d be stuck working in a low level job the rest of my life. Well I look back and laugh. I’m now a graduate of BSc Electrical Engineering from the University of Leicester and I’m a fully qualified Electrician. I really wish I could meet her again to shove it all in her face. I wouldn’t waste your time attending MidKent college
I currently attend this college and I can say that the environment and facilities are fantastic at midkent college. You have access to libraries, computers, iPads available for loan, additional maths and English tuition. There are lots of greats things about this college. College life is something I really enjoy and if your someone in year 11 thinking about attending college, it is quite fun if your looking to get out of the ‘schooly’ environment. You will only attend college 3-4 days in a week and you have varied times for your classes e.g. you won’t be attending the same time each day, it varies. However, my experience with this college specifically has not been good. More specifically the course currently being delivered to me. I chose to do a level 3 course. Currently it’s very bad the way they are delivering this. We started this course with a blast and I was really enjoying it. We were actually being taught, and given help often. However, unfortunately our amazing teacher became ill and no longer works there. Due to this happening they gave us supply teachers often until they could find someone a bit more permanent. We now have a ‘kind of’ permanent teacher who is ok. But just sits there. I understand the college works hard on finding a teacher that has backgrounds in what we are studying. They really work hard in doing that for us so we are thankful. But everyday we go in, there was a never a point going in anyway. Most people in our class are behind due to the department failing to deliver this course properly. It’s not ok. I am Massively behind but this admittedly had been majorly my fault but I do think a fair portion is to the college. Because If i go in and know I’m not going to be learning or doing anything. What’s the point. We are now on our final project which we have started and have not received the grading for our 1st or 2nd one. I know I am severely behind on the 2nd one. And one day you have them telling us to start the last project whereas another teacher tells us you need to finish the other project. Like it’s actually exhausting at this point. Can’t someone actually deliver this properly. Its really unfair. Unfair to us as the current students and unfair to future students looking in to this course expecting something fun and amazing. Honestly, I don’t know what I’m doing tomorrow. If the teachers will actually get up and make learning fun or hand us a brief and say “get on with it”. It’s diabolical. Yes, college is much more independent than 6th form. I agree hugely. But in no way does that mean that we shouldn’t receive help or have too “literally” ask for help every time. Especially me and many others are simply not confident to put our hand up and ask for help. We kind of need someone to come over and also do one to ones with us often like our other amazing teacher did. This course has no structure and is making everyone miserable and upset. Even if I do manage to pass this course and have the qualification, it’s a useless qualification. Yes I can put it in my cv when applying to jobs and stuff but there’s no knowledge i have gained from this course and it makes it a waste of my time. Overall, please consider what I have said when looking in to This college. I may be wrong about other courses and they may be delivered differently. But if this much stuff has happened with this course I guarantee it’s similar in other courses. Thanks.
Welfare staff expect students to harm themselves in order to let them in the room, students become out of control due to staff not keeping an eye on students. Some staff members can be rude to students sometimes, if you put in the work they downgrade you. I once saw a staff member doing work for a student and the student got 2 merits, when I tried my best, they accused me of copying stuff from the internet without using a checker. They changed my grade to a pass. Students do drugs in that college, because when walking down the corridors. You can smell drugs being smoked! All people go there for is to 1. Get pregnant 2. Smoke Weed 3. They go there to discriminate against forigen students. Some staff say things and it's not true. Don't go near central number 1 unless you want people laughing at you and putting you down.
