Fine, but fails children with SEND

They do lots of trips and ‘fun’ themed days (all of which you do have to pay for of course, which really does add up, especially considering that their after school clubs are around £70/term and their after school care is £15/day!) Teachers on the whole seem to care - and they’re clearly looked after in terms of their wellbeing. BUT any form of leadership are non-existent or incredibly defensive if any issues are raised. There’s an air of arrogance about the school; you’re never properly told how your children are getting on. Even on book-look days, the work is never marked or barely marked, just a tick here or there. SEND support is non-existent and children with SEND are on the whole massively let down. If your child gets on, is academic and you don’t anticipate needing to speak to leadership then this school is fine.

Highly recommended

I haven’t been to this school since 2016 but based on my experience, it was a pretty good school. Excellent school trips, great teachers and good opportunities. During my time there, I only met 1 teacher who didn’t care about the students, punished us for no reason and was mean to an autistic kid but she left (and was only a teaching assistant). The teachers deal with arguments, no matter how petty, fairly well. They deal with bullying excellently (based on my personal experience with verbal bullying). The teachers who look after autistic kids or kids with anger issues perfectly, they got the same amount of opportunities as everyone else. Middleton managed to secure everyone good grades and everyone was accepted into an appropriate secondary school. The only complaint that I have, which I don’t blame on Middleton, is the natural next step after Middleton is Oakgrove secondary which is an abomination.

My sibling is currently attending this school and my mum has worked there since I was in year 1 and works with autistic kids. My mum cried when one of the kids that she was working with, moved to a different school. Since, he needed some extra help, they spent a lot of time together so seeing him and hearing his funny jokes became a part of her daily life. So when he left, my mum and another teacher who cared for him, cried their eyes out together.

In conclusion, your child will really benefit going to a school like this with this many teachers who will care a great deal for them.
