As a former student I have decided to bring up some feedback on this so called high school, if you are as unfortunate as me to have attended this school or worse are attending already then strap in, get comfy and get ready because this review is nothing but truthful-
The behaviour for learning team during my time at that hellish environment was nothing short of a terrible joke- they cared little for students who needed their assistance and actual help and instead focused all their time and effort on the perfect little students who ate lunch with them because they had been outcasted for bullying other students, members of the BFL made receiving period product care uncomfortable and would simply watch as students tried to receive the free period products almost in a judging way, the so called anti-bullying team that was implemented by the BFL consisted of more bullies then it did of students who were genuinely caring (though finding students who cared about others was a difficult thing to find in that school because the teachers refused to help de-escalate conflicts that had arisen). The BFL cared more about their image than the mental health of their students and yet they weren’t the worst aspect of this school.
Surprisingly, the teachers were seemingly unqualified to teach with a few exceptions who did actually care for their students and taught them properly, other teachers cared more about the grades received then their students ability to remember information in the long term, as long as they could get some students to waffle on about the answers they had previously given everything was fine.
The only other competent members of staff were the lunch ladies who were a delight.
The headteacher seemingly cared more about the appearance of the school and never really took an active part in the societal aspect of the schools community unless making a passing comment about uniform and inferring crude metaphors about students.
The school constantly locked the toilets throughout my time as a student and meant we had to use the toilets at specific times- which is a highly unhygienic thing to do especially with so many girls going through puberty.
I could go on about this school and how it was terrible but unfortunately I do not have the time nor the energy to write a dissertation regarding how this academy fails to provide education and a safe space for students- I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to experience a school this terrible or an encounter with most of these teachers.
Spent more time and effort focusing on jewellery, skirt length, vapes, and mobile phones than students education, physical health and mental wellbeing. BFL team are nothing short of useless. The only time any interest was shown was when they were doing the upmost to try and get myself at 12 to be open about my sexuality. Whilst I was smart enough to not confess to little miss Snoopy, I knew of others who were (reluctantly) open just to have all of the information relayed back to parents which is 1. Dangerous for their welfare, and 2. Completely destroying their confidence in being open to people about issues like this.
They submitted students who were working in subjects at foundation level, in the higher tier papers without their knowledge - forcing them to learn double the content on their own time, along with revision for their other subjects in a poor attempt to try and increase their exam results.
We were constantly pushed to chose options that would increase the number of EBAC students, with us being told that a language GCSE was mandatory and that we would not be accepted into any college without it. To get out of this, parents would have to send in letters to the school, at which they would then decide out of the students who did this who would get to not have to do a language, denying many the opportunity.
If your child has any sort of learning difficulty or disability, they are NOT given the guidance needed but are rather thrown in the lower set classes, left almost entirely unsupported.
its really a mixed bag at lostock hall academy there is some teachers that are very caring and some that are dam right cruel and i feel like this school doesnt care about your education it only cares about its reputation and doesnt invest a lot into the school environment and the clasrooms are very spacious and airy but there is some places like the hall and eating areas that need improvements onto them and i feel like the amount of support they give is just not a lot just like there was this time i was getting bullied and my mum rang the schools bfl team and after i told them what was happening they said that they would sort it but never did my mum rang back a second time and they once again said that they would sort it and never did . so the BFL team needs to sort itself out and help people being bullied and sort it out and they also pick on certain students like myself and will blame you for something you havent done and will place you in detention for something i didnt do i go to this this school and arent satisfied with it and heres my advice to all parents who wants to said there kid here don,t send them somwhere better because this school wont get the best of your child hope you find this review usefull written by a year 9 student at lostock hall academy .
The leadership team care most about the school's reputation.
They prioritise students in the top sets - the ones who make them look good on results day.
They don't take bullying seriously which is something they should be concerned about considering it's a school where bullying is common and can make people feel miserable.
I feel like the school is really homely, friendly and welcoming. It has made me work hard and well. The teachers are really good and friendly so you feel like you can talk to them. In my experience I think Lostock hall academy is an amazing school that gets the best out of people while putting a smile on your face.
