Managed Decline at LBTS

LBTS has gone down hugely..... The school itself is not safe, as another parent pointed out there were trespassers back in September 2022, it is now 2023 yet we are still waiting as parents to hear about the incident directly through school.

Staff have poor behavioural traits that are being passed onto the students and then students are being penalised for demonstrating the exact same behaviour that staff have. Staff cut their eye at students and parents however they are never asked to stay behind or even spoken to about their conduct by senior staff. Staff abuse their power by singling out students and isolating them by belittling them in front of staff and peers, staff talk about students with other students, staff call young girls that should be safeguarded derogatory names instead actually empowering them and staff also like to speak about their colleagues in a negative light to students, which only enables students to do the same. Staff lack discipline, leadership and just basic respect. None of the above fall within Lambeths Code Of Conduct Policy.

Staff fail to act on safeguarding concerns and instead add to them. Staff are not consistent in anything. Information is never consistent, you could ask 3 staff members the same question and you will get three different answers. Never seen so many cover teachers or so many teachers leave. The only thing that has been consistent is the failure to take action and the failure to follow policies. Staff struggle to answer basic questions and result to 'it is because it is Ms.Chamberlains school now.' The policies are not followed, procedures are ignored or only apply to some individuals and not others. Detentions and sanctions are at an all time high, yet nothing productive is ever done in this time. Students are given laptops and left to it, there has been no real effort to stop students returning. Students now realise its just a thing that teachers do and do not fear the idea of detentions at all.

LBTS even at a senior level do not care about students mental health, a few parents have already have had to move their children due to teacher bullying and the impact it has had on their children. Staff and school get away with it by offering managed moves to students as an alterative to actually stopping the bullying and of course parents take it as they feel they have no other choice and fear what could happen if they do not. However managed moves do not solve the issue nor does it bring any comfort to a parent that knows their child has already suffered, this is also not what managed moves are actually for. Staff are very much aware of how hostile and toxic the school is but refuse to acknowledge it. And the staff who are willing to admit it do it privately and you find that they leave soon after.

Most parents have now had enough as each concern is being treated as an isolated incident, even though we know it is not isolated and is happening to many students across all years. No matter how many parents have raised concerns they have been brushed under the carpet. Our children deserve to be respected, treated equally, and to be educated in a safe environment without the risk of being harmed by other adults.

My advice to parents planning to send their children here or already have is to keep a record of everything. If you can ask the school to email you and not call unless it is an emergency. Read the policies and procedures, hold them accountable. Do not be scared to voice your concerns, the likelihood you are the only parent is very low and most importantly LISTEN to your child. Please LISTEN to your child, do not assume schools are doing the right thing and take it seriously. Some children are genuinely struggling mentally and need support.

Honesty

A parent has already said this but its very true that teachers cut their eyes at students in this school. There was also infact people who tresspassed into the school a few months ago. Wheres the safety? There are teachers who even talk behind the backs of students to other students. Childish. They ignore sexual assault and they ignore homophobia. The behaviour at this school is getting increasingly worse with this headteacher. How they act when visitors are around is a complete lie. They dont care about mental health.

Poor standards of Lilian Baylis technology school

I am writing a review based on my daughters experience at this school. This secondary school use to be very good based on the teachers that use to work here and how the teachers use to implement good teaching in their practice and this has changed for the worse. Since the old headteacher had left Lilian Baylis technology school last year this school has gone downhill hugely and this is very sad. The new headteacher has now re-inforced school rules that has no benefit for the childrens learning. And rules that should be re-inforced has not been put into place and children are not being safeguarded in the school as there has been children from another school that had trespassed Lilian Baylis on Wednesday 7th September 2022 to fight another child in the school and the teachers did not have this situation under control and that is very embarrassing and disappointing and parents should feel that their children is safe within the school. Children are also at risk of being groomed and sexually harassed by other children and teachers are not taking this seriously and they are ignoring when situation like this arises and this should not be the case. Teachers in the school have terrible attitude problems and they are setting a poor example for the children I.e.: teachers cutting their eyes and being very intimidating towards the children. There has also been an incident where a teacher had screwed a pupils jumper up and forced him against the wall and this should not be taking place at all and this teacher should be severely reprimanded. All children should be kept safe at all times. I think that Ofsted should visit this school because this school is not following their own policy and procedures. Myself as a parent I am very disappointed with Lilian Baylis secondary school. I do hope that things get looked into very soon so that that the standard of the school can become outstanding again.
